I'm not even sure it's much of a compromise. I see it more as just a better implemented version of DAO's customisation system. We already accept that Leliana and Sten can wear the same piece of armour and have it look significantly different. What Mike and David are suggesting, here, is exactly that.
I like it. This plan gets my full support.

See imo females shouldn't be portayed as men, you can still have the fighters look but not look and walk like a man. I don't want my female's to look like m!Hawke tyvm. I'm a female, I'm nothing girly or anything like that but their is a diff between a man n a womans posture, walk etc. I don't want to be portrayed as a male, just like I don't want my female protag's portayed as a male. I want that difference between a female n male distinction and that's why I was very happy with DA2's way of how they did their females.Pasquale1234 wrote...

For me I'm just leary of going back to the way the females where portrayed in DAO,
And I would love to go back to that. I always felt like FemHawke was desperately trolling for sexual attention with that exaggerated sashay. I found it incredibly distracting, and not in a good way.

I'm firmly on the manwalk side of this debate. The hip-swaying saunter we see in DA2 makes no sense if the character is wearing flats - which she basically always is.twincast wrote...
There's got to be an actually believable middle ground between manwalk and dislocated hip syndrome... one can only hope BioWare finally discovers it.
Women in high heels sway their hips. Women in flats don't.
Adventurers wear flats.

Actually, it's not the footwear but the person. A person, male or female, who sways their hips will do so because that is how they move, regardless of flats, heels, boots, etc.Sylvius the Mad wrote...

But you had stated:
Again, regardless of footwear, someone who sways their hips will do just that - sway their hips. Meaning that a person who walks with a swaying motion barefoot, will likely do so in those flats.Women in high heels sway their hips. Women in flats don't.
And while I have not personally conducted a survey of the men and women around me, I am an ardent observer, as well as someone who has walked in both flats and heels. And I do not sway in either. <_<

I don't understand what's wrong with Battlemages? Mages wearing heavy armor that LOOKS and IS heavy. I mean. Rogues can't wear heavy armor cause they need speed and agility. Warriors wear heavy armor cause they rely on brute strenght. Mages need none of those to cast spells. They aren't physically bound to robes. If any, than MAGE class of all should be able to wear whatever they wanted. Not just robes in which they look like nannies. If a player wants his mage to look like a flaming juggernaut, why not? I understand how that would diminish importance of classes, but you don't have to change the look. Change the stats in accordance with class.
Granted, you want your mage to carry heavy stuff? Have him build the muscle. His magic will resent, yes. But that's your choice to make. Getting everything for free because "MAGIC!" doesn't cut it.
Heh, what you said there reminded me of Amalur. "You can be whatever class you wish to be" but with repercussions if you go multi.
But srsly, Arcane warrior did it. Just because of MAGIC!

If the system turns out to be too costly to implement, however, note that I'd be happy if we just had more options for companions. If there are fewer options, that introduces the possibility for companions to comment on each others' appearances, too, which I enjoyed in DA2.

Sterling breastplate for warrior = X armor X strenght X stamina X Constitution
Sterling breastplate for rogue = X armor X agility X dexterity X cunning
Sterling breastplate for mage = X armor X magic X willpower X Constitution
Ok minus the "flaming juggernaut" look for my mage I'm all in agreement. It just seems like mages are portrayed heck Idk lol. But DA are the first mages of all the game's I've played that run around in robes. I'd love the battlemage look because tech that's how I rp my mages, not some soft wimpy bookworm, (please don't take that personally anyone).
There needs to be an inbetween I think for mage clothing. No, not the juggernaut or even very heavy armor, nor the soft robe like material. Something inbetween so if my mage does have to get personal with an enemy who came towards them then they can defend themselves better. (that didn't make sense sorry) Anyways I just want to see more armour armour for my mages and less robes lol.
Something like Mage Champion armor, am I right? Not too thick and covering, but still armored and practical for a mage.

Then you take shorter strides in heels. Biomechanics requires there be some sort of consequence to the limited range of motion in your ankle.whykikyouwhy wrote...

Unless you don't use you ankle when you walk in flats, either, but that would be weird.

Honestly, female walk in DA2 was a bit clumsy if you ask me. When I would take over Isabela and run as her, I kept expecting her to fall down. Same with every female in game. I understand the need to separate male from female but this is downright hilarious.

Most women take shorter strides while wearing heels. I know I do. The smaller amount of surface area when wearing heels makes balancing harder for a longer stride. I don't sway my hips more unless I am intentionally doing so, heels or no heels.

Exactly and I know that was mentioned earlier today and I agreed I wanted more of that kind of armor for my mages. I'm not sayin do away with robes completely but have more Mage Champion kind of armour then the robes. I can see the mages in the circles with robes, not for my protags bascially. Because they are gettin out there and fighting, they do have enemies coming at them. The Mage Champion armors more suitable to fighting then a robe imo lol. I see a robe and I see enemies running at me and all I can think of is trying to run and tripping basically lol.

I was fine with the FemWalk when I played a mage. When I switched to Warrior, I used the mod that gave her the DudeWalk.

Correct. As a mage I would use robes at home like Hawke wears that suit in his mansion. Why would I go into battle wearing pajamas? No sense. But I think they will address this in DA3 development. I think people complained about this since DAO came out. Hopefully!

I meant on disability to fill out class tree. Warrior mage hybrid can't cast Meteor (Ultimate talent for mage, right?). Cause he aint got enough Talent points to spend them.

The difference in the running animation between male and female in DA2 was a bit over the top and "stereotyped" in my opinon with Femhawkes arms swinging and flopping about rediculously as she ran. In real life men a women don't run all that different, maybe a slight difference but it's not that drastic. Being a female myself, watching femhawke was weird and kind of put me off playing a female character as I had to watch he run "stupidly" all the time.

So some distinction is called for, however it appears to be a Goldilocks problem. I could take or leave the hip sway, but the effeminate holding out of the hands and arms? That's just patronizing.

I liked it. Because I hold myself like that. I pop my hip when I stand idle. It's not something that is in any way "a big deal" to me, but I enjoyed it because I saw myself in it. Just like how I love characters I see myself in (
