A game I just remembered...Resident Evil 1 remake.

It's a shame most didn't play that on GC. The graphics were amazing. They used prerendered backgrounds and everything looked like cinematics playing. By god, it's arguably the best RE game right beside RE1(original) and RE2. It has the best atmosphere in the franchise by far and is the creepiest. The graphics technique they used really helped the atmosphere. I remember going through the foggy cemetary or walking on the balcony attacked by the dogs. Only to see lightning off in the distance and the trees breezing away.

So freaking creepy...especially when they introduced Lisa to the franchise, arguably the most important character in the storyline. Umbrellas greatest achievement(or failure however you look at it) they never realized.

Bastion is underrated or did it just not sell bazillion copies?

Considering the quality of the game, I think it's way too obscure and underappreciated.

Splinter Cell Conviction. It's not as stealthy as other SC titles, but it's still a great game. It has the best cover system of any 3rd person shooter ever made. It's really that good. Also, it has a traditional Tom Clancy spy novel feel to it, and the writing combined with the voice acting of Sam, Grim and Vic really drives home the feel that Sam's a 50 something retired ex-marine spy out for revenge. It's like playing a game where the main protagonist is David Webb only twenty years in the future.

Man I hate Conviction it was more action and less stealth.

Yeah, it was no Double Agent, but you could play it that way. It did force a few action sequences on you though that you're unable to sneak through. Still, it has one of the best spy stories in games that I've ever seen.

You can also add Just Cause 2 to the list of great underrated games. If you ever thought Grand theft auto wasn't big enough, or that Saints Row wasn't crazy enough, then Just Cause 2 is perfect for you, since it blows both out of the water. The biggest selection of planes, boats, cars, bikes, suvs, and weapons humanly possible to make in one game and it all takes place one of the biggest sandboxes ever made. Seriously a great game.

Blows Saints Row's craziness out of the water? I find that hard to believe.

Rent it, then mail me a thank you note.

I disagree. I could maybe give just cause 2 the edge in craziness with saints row 2, but saints row 3 blows it out of the water with craziness. (which isn't a good thing in my opinion, I thought SR3 was a crappy sequel.)

It's underrated if anything.

It got rave reviews, sold tons of copies, and is well known for its procedural narration.

Its not underrated by definition. Niche maybe, or undermarketed, but not underrated.

Forgot to mention Haunting Ground.

I love the anxiety of trying to remain absolutely silent in a hiding place, desperately hoping that the pursuer does not find you. That, and the game's story and characters were wonderfully warped and depraved.

SR1:
Yeah. okay.

SR2:
Okay, a bit much.

SR3:
What's that? What's this? There's something very wrong...
Zombies, aliens, is that pimp wearing a thong?
Flying bikes, super tanks, a thousand mile an hour car?
Chokeslams, clotheslines, can I really jump that far?
Evil Russian giants, that guy must be 12 feet tall...
A Japanese cat is phoning me, do I need to take this call?
Army invading my apartment, is that a tank he threw?
You know what? Screw this game, I got better things to do.

To be fair if you played the game without realizing how over the top the developers intended it to be, its your own fault for wasting your own time.

I know exactly what you mean. My own the game on GC. I remember playing with my friends every weekend from like 9-1am.......game scared the heck out of ya. definitely looked real on the whole backgrounds and the atsmophere was very spooky not to mention the monsters were so "creepy"

to bad they don't make games like that anymore..........

Oh no, I get what the developers intended, but I also see what they failed to achieve.

It was the only Resident Evil game that ever had a "scary" or "creepy" atmosphere.:wizard:

Anyway, 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors is somewhat underrated.

Another vote for Alpha Protocol. In addition new kings bounty series: legend, armored princess. Also two worlds 2, great game. Heroes 4 and addons, great game, in fact only heroes that still on my computer which i play from time to time. From ps3 market Valkyria Chronichles, simple one of the best games i ever played.

I loved these games!!!

I know PE2 isn't popular amongst the fans but man did I like that game back in the day.

The entire desert setting was just...weird. PE1 was definitely better though. Have you ever seen the PE Japanese movie? Good cheesy horror there haha.

It was underrated? Image IPB
Planescape: Torment was underrated too?
What about Icewind Dales then? Or Temple of Elemental Evil (yeah, I know, far from perfect, but still "better than ME3 ending"Image IPB)?

Never got a sequel, and you only hear people tal aobut it outside the fan base when you bring up games like Fallout.

Hell a lot of Troika games never got the chance they deserved, Vampire: The Masquerde Bloodlines was great despite being forced out early by Activision yet again it's only in certain circles people talk bout it.

Well, this makes sense - I was inside those circles and most, if not all people I know, own or at least played all those games.

Mother 3. Finding a physical copy in itself is very rare. I'll second arcanum. It's not nearly as well known as V:tmB but it's quite fun. I love the soundtrack, even if the gameplay is hard as a nail.

It didn't have EA offering "incentives" to reviewers to give it a high score.

AP has awful controls, AI, graphics and bugs and less than interesting characters and story. Dragon Age 2 doesn't have those failings.

Actually, that sounds like a pretty accurate description of DA2 to me. LOL.

And yet Alpha Protocol is still a better game. Weird huh?
