 No. This is not a Vega hate thread. I dislike Vega but that's not going to be a part of this. 

But... let's take a look at Vega for a sec

-Gigantic, Burly dude
-Soldier class
-Resident dumb brute of the Normandy

Vega is Wrex without any of the charm.

It seems very obvious that Vega was created to be our new Krogan stand in.

But, we had a perfectly servicable Krogan already!

Who is Wrex?

-A Shepard Veteran
-A Close friend of Shepard (Seriously, replay Tuchanka in ME2. He ****ing loves you.)
-Someone Shepard has had a lot of personal history and experience with
-Loved by the fanbase
-Pure Badass
-Leader of the ****in' Krogan.

Now, I know every poster is about to yell about how Wrex is pre-occupied.
This could've been easily retconned or shoehorned.
E.G) Have Wrex reveal he's been training Grunt as a protege. Grunt is in charge in Wrex's abscence.
Have Wrex command the Krogan through Normandy computers


So, I just ask.... Why did Bioware choose to replace the slot of a well loved character with some new guy who's pandering to the Gears crowd?

James is the odd one out on the Normandy. Literally everyone else on the squad is an old friend (or lover) of Shepard, not counting Javik(As he is DLC, I don't count him) Hell, with the exception of EDI, it's the ME1 squad minus Wrex.

So, why didn't Wrex get off his ass and get back in the Storage Bay?

Vega is supposed to be there for new players to relate to.

well wrex can be dead.

Grunt can be dead as well but I would have preferred Grunt story wise because Wrex's attention is required elsewhere.

Plus they needed some squadmates that were new in case people felt the need to import their really bad saves where almost everyone is dead already.

From a story prospective I can understand why they wouldn't have Wrex come with you....but I see no reason why Grunt couldn't have and I would have far preferred him over Vega.

I believe James Vega is there for the sole reason of making new players feel comfortable. That they needed someone "dumber then the player".

I agree though, Wrex SHOULD have been a squaddie. It would have been fitting. I mean Garrus, Tali, Liara and the VS are all there. Wrex is the only one missing.

Vega is tactically the same, that's why I was using him, but he was more... "generic"?

I assume because there isnt time to go around recruiting people.  Vega was on the normandy while it was escaping earth and Shepard has to get the job done with what he has.

I like to think Vega, Cortez and Traynor were introduced because they finally realized it was weird to have more aliens than brown people in the series.

Wrex was visually cool, and an amazing character.
Vega is a CoD Reject and is a dumb brick.

Wrex is at least smart enough to lead a race.

Disagree. Vega was pretty cool. I liked him. Rather Vega than Wrex, tbh. Got enough Wrex in my Tuchanka line. Not that I would've minded more of it, just... you know. Vega is fine too.

Wrex/Wreav would've been cool to have as a squadmate in ME3. I actually don't mind Vega at all though. He just needed some more character development.

Koobismo's Marauder Shields comics have an interesting scene with him - character development wise though.

Yeah. I understand Wrex not being there, but I would have loved to get Grunt back... Vega isnt a bad character, not even nearly as bad as I expected, but Grunt is IMHO much better.

I don't think Vega was that bad (I liked how he've got Liara about dinosaurs  )
It's just that Wrex was too awesome.

Wrex is the ME version of Wow's Thrall, just awesome.

Vega is another boring human squadmate like Ashley/Kaidan, I would prefer to have him in a side mision and have Wrex permanently.

Because the third game of a trilogy is a great time to jump in! Vega isn't terrible, he's got a few good lines, but he's really not that interesting. There's no reason for him to be there except for someone, anyone, we actually have history with. Wrex is with you from the Sur'Kesh to Tuchanka missions anyway, you're leading the war effort, there's no reason he couldn't accompany you.

Mass Effect: Your choices have impact, but not really because that would mean developing content people who made a different choice or didn't play earlier games might not see.
