Does anyone else have problems with Tactics?

Hello folks :)

By and large I really like Tactics and it's very satisfying when you are just running along and find yourself launched into a big fight and your party members all perform the tasks you've given them successfully without any micro-management from you.

However, there are times my overly keen team, tears headlong into a cavern of about 20 beasties and I have to smash down on the 'H' button to prevent them from a swift and lunatic death, "we need to think about this one, guys" I say.

At this point things go a bit wrong. Often, I would like to have my tank of choice pull a group of two or three baddies and lure them back to my group and then have the party behave as they've been told to.  However, when the baddies approach, they all just bounce about happily on their ankles doing precisely nothing EVEN when I hit the 'H' button again hoping that they will get the message that it's ok to fight the way they want to now.

I would like the party to understand that even though I have told them to hold their positions, this doesn't mean they aren't allowed to fight, just fight where they stand.  I would also like them to at least start fighting again when I say they can move about.  Well, sometimes they do seem to miraculously get the message but most of the time they don't. There also seems to be a problem when you ask them to swap from melee to ranged or vica versa.

So I'm a bit confused.  I can't work out what the criteria is for my party to decide it can or or can't fight, either when being told to stand still or when they have been given the go ahead to follow their tactics.

I realize I haven't explained terribly well perhaps but does anyone else have this problem.  Is there something I'm not or should be doing?

thanks!

I have the same problem. So I end up using pause a lot, to give them new orders.

Same here .I tried to pull mobs like that in the tower at Ostagar. There's a room with some mabari dogs you can free from cages so i would put my party on "stand ground" option right next to the dogs and pull mobs in the room with my main. After i press H again to let them do whatever they want they just stand there confused. I have to give them an "impulse "to wake them up.

The other thing is that sometimes, say you have two separate bunches of enemies in two separate rooms, I want them to fight in one room first then the other (I'm currently working my way in to kill that bastard Howe, so lots of little rooms). I 'H' them so that they stay in one room and get my tank (usually Alistair) to get threat, then I'd like to be able to unleash my other party members to fight in the same place. However, because they don't fight on the spot, I let them go and sometimes they run into the other room to fight the other people! ARGH!

To be honest, it usually works out with a combination of pausing/'h'ing/releasing, which is ok because I don't want the game to be a walkover but it's a tad unwieldy and frantic at times.
