By and large I really like Tactics and it's very satisfying when you are just running along and find yourself launched into a big fight and your party members all perform the tasks you've given them successfully without any micro-management from you.
However, there are times my overly keen team, tears headlong into a cavern of about 20 beasties and I have to smash down on the 'H' button to prevent them from a swift and lunatic death, "we need to think about this one, guys" I say.
At this point things go a bit wrong. Often, I would like to have my tank of choice pull a group of two or three baddies and lure them back to my group and then have the party behave as they've been told to. However, when the baddies approach, they all just bounce about happily on their ankles doing precisely nothing EVEN when I hit the 'H' button again hoping that they will get the message that it's ok to fight the way they want to now.
I would like the party to understand that even though I have told them to hold their positions, this doesn't mean they aren't allowed to fight, just fight where they stand. I would also like them to at least start fighting again when I say they can move about. Well, sometimes they do seem to miraculously get the message but most of the time they don't. There also seems to be a problem when you ask them to swap from melee to ranged or vica versa.
So I'm a bit confused. I can't work out what the criteria is for my party to decide it can or or can't fight, either when being told to stand still or when they have been given the go ahead to follow their tactics.
I realize I haven't explained terribly well perhaps but does anyone else have this problem. Is there something I'm not or should be doing?
thanks!
