So on my second mage playthrough with a selfish, mercenary elf, I opened Missionary Rigby's box instead of keeping it closed to give to his widow in Redcliffe.  The only thing I got out of it was a letter, which apparently is not a quest item and did not go into my codex, so I can't read it at all, and an amulet, which is a quest item, meaning I can't use it for anything, nor even sell it.

Is this it?  What benefit will I get from this later in the game, if anything?  If that's all you get, it seems to be a complete waste; it would be better to keep the lockbox closed and try to shake down Rigby's widow for a finder's fee.

As far as I know nothing more happens. If you open it right away nothing happens, I have also taken it and given it to Jetta and received nothing. It was only when I demanded a reward I think that I got something on a different play-through.

Hahaha, I think all you get is guilt, or you could think of it as a lovely memento of that time you cheated that widow.  Good times.  Good times.

That's disappointing.  At least give me the option to say "I opened the lockbox your husband wanted to give you."  followed by "No you can't have it; I sold it all/I'm using it/I'm keeping it."  to the widow.  What?  I like being evil.

Huh.

Seems like a missed opportunity, there. The locket at least ought to DO something. At least let you return it or sell it back to the widow.
