You're quite right however. Imitation in art means nothing if it is a direct attempt to copy something. I really wish people would watch a Tarkovsky or Herzog film to understand what true philosophical meaning is. Those two are just............immaculate.

Herzog should do the documentary on the fall of Bioware.  It'd be like "Grizzly Man" but with Casey instead of Timothy Treadwell.

I believe Bioware is choosing NOT to cater to the MTV generation of "kids" who are 13-25.  Instead Bioware is choosing to cater to their more mature audience and striving to push the limits of todays youth.

Bioware i respect you for this.  Most Bioware writers are probably over the age of 28 right?

My challenge to the young generation of ME players is this.  Try to think like a mature adult instead of a silly kid wanting a boss fight at the end of the game.  I say this with the deepest respect possible since the youth have to carry the torch. Consider your limits pushed.

If I come off arrogant then I apologize in advance.

Is Herzog the guy who directed Rescue Dawn? I think that's my only contact with him. That movie was incredible.

Shame on you.  You just insulted everyone with a mental illness by associating the troll with them.

(This is not a personal attack, I just like making snarky comments)

I’m 34.

I would rather have had a meaningful confrontation than an attempt at intellectual drama-babble.

There is nothing deep, thought provoking or mentally stimulating about the ending. Being obtuse and dark just for the sake of it does not make a literary masterpiece.

This is why I hate 95% of gamers.

Luzarius

You’re hating people because they don’t share your opinion?

Yet claim to be mature?

Guy, seriously, the ending is not deep. It is not thought-provoking and I’m afraid it’s not innovative. You can’t be innovative when you rip off another game, you really can’t. It is an attempt at all of the above, but as far as I’m concerned, it failed horribly.

You can go ahead and hate me for that, but if I have to choose between a poorly written attempt at depth and meaning or a well scripted combat, I’m afraid I’d rather have the combat. That doesn’t make me shallow. That makes me someone who doesn’t have patience for bad writing.

Preferably, there would have been a gorgeously written end with both depth and closure, stimulating and evocative - and I wouldn’t have cared one way or the other about the battle, but that’s not the case. It was trite. It felt old, already done, and dull.

I have to disagree with your original premise – I think most well-read people who have spent a decent amount of time studying, and have read more than just a handful of books will have trouble thinking the ending has any great depth.

I know, however, that there are exceptions and unlike you, I’m not narrow-minded enough to hate them because they don’t share my opinion.

And that's all the ogre-feeding I'll be doing today.

That's the guy, but he's directed much better.  "Grizzly Man" is an incredible documentary.  "Fitzcarraldo" is a legendary film.  It's hard to go wrong with Herzog.

Ridiculous! Who the fudge do you think you are telling people who do not share your weird opinion that they're silly brats? Honestly go check a psychiatrist because chances are high something's obviously not right with your cultured, mature brain.

As far as I know video games target audience doesn't live in old people's homes and who on earth told you that a bossfight and an intelligent ending exclude each other, anyway?

I was honestly expecting you to say neither were pleased op.

I like the ending, but it is no where near mentally stimulating. If anything it feels like Deus Ex decided to have a quicky with another poorly written W40K novel.

I wish people quoted me. :(

First of all love how you just went all ageist up in this forum.  The assumption that because I am under the age of 25 determines my maturity level is pretty outdated. Personally I would have enjoyed a cerebral ending or a boss fight. Didn't see either in the game.  But yea, you don't come off as any more arrogant than the average 16 year old so you're good man.

Yet they stated they wanted to appeal to the call of duty crowd, which we all know the majority of that crowd are in their "young" stage of life. Go ahead and ask, hardly any of us of us give a hoot about the lack of a boss fight. The reason we find the ending so disappointing is because of the lack of choice, diversity, closure, and the insane amount of plot-holes that are present... hopefully these plot-holes will be addressed in the upcoming Extended Cut DLC, but even if that's the case it still doesn't dismiss all the other issues.

and yes I said "ending", it's basically the same cutscene with different colors...

The biggest problem with the ending is that it comes across as a Walt Disney or Casper the Ghost rip off.... not suitable for a mature audience.... The space magic does NOT stimulate any rational thought and ruins immersion.

Unfortunately, this ending is neither. There isn't any deep, emotional, thought provoking underbelly to this ending. There also isn't a boss fight. It's a contrived, rushed end that a freshman writing major could've pulled out of his ass in the minute and a half it took him to brush his teeth.
