I never played Phantasy Star. Gave me the impression it was more Fantasy then Sci-Fi. However, PSO was amazing. PSU killed anything that entire franchise, RPG or MMORPG, has to redeem in itself.

You get  space ship, travel to different  planets,  have different spieces  you meat on these planets. You have andriods and even synthetic humaniod race.

I would say the orginal 4  are definetly Sci-fi with a fantasy twist - You should be download a emulator  and get them easily  now.

Its Space magic done right.

While I loved 1-3, I can't endorse 4 whatsoever. That game was a major dissapointment. I remember buying it brand new for almost $80, getting it home, and beating it in no time. 100% completion in two days. I wanted to kill. Great gameplay, decent story, TOO SHORT!

Now, PSO? That was the game that ultimately sold me on the Dreamcast along with RE:CV.

4  was my first  RPG , so it took me a bit longer  than most.  Plus it made go back look into 1-3.

I like Warhammer 40K, there's a lot more going on with the story behind it than many people think.

TV: Babylon 5
Books: Dune thru Dune:Chapterhouse

Gamewise:Current....Hmmm....Have to say TOR for the moment. At least the character classes have endings.....Maybe ME3 can take the crown back in Summer. Portal 1/2

Now older scifi games or rather hybrids:

Systemshock 1 and 2.
Xcom *original PC series strat
Fallout 1/2
Half Life

And then go play kotor 2, but make sure u get the fan mods that add in the missing content and fix the bugs....kotor 2 really was a great game, a shame lucas arts didnt care about art and allow iit to be finished. Kreia is one of the best characters ive ever seen in a game.

I actually really prefer KOTOR 2's writing as well.  I'm super stoked that Chris Avellone is a part of the Wasteland 2 project!  Kreia is amazing.  As far as I'm concerned pretty much anything MCA touches turns to gold.

It's just unfortunate that the ending seems to be... missing :

KotOR II was amazing. KotOR games are the only games I played evil/darkside on my first run. In 2, I even played through Nar Shadar (sp?) as neutral so I could recruit Mira and then turn her to the darkside. It was so satisfying.

Like you said, though, the ending was just kinda... absent from the game.

That's cool, as long as you didn't buy it new. Major waste of cash. I actually recently started a new game in 3. Also Paladin's Quest. While not sci-fi, it was done by the same crew that did the PS series and has some serious graphical and gameplay similaritis as PS 3. Plus the music is top notch.

I can hardly say just because of the ending I hate Mass Effect. It felt different and amazing. I love Halo don't get me wrong, but as for which is better? Which had a better storytelling through the series? Mass Effect can't be ruined by the ending for me, its still amazing, I would still buy all three at this point in time again knowing the ending was bad. I wouldn't really compare it to Star Wars in the sense that its sci-fi because Star Wars is more space fiction but more in the sense that its an awe inspiring trilogy of the same effect.

My vote would be for Halo. It's got the big, epic, galaxy-spanning storyline and a rich fiction that is constantly and carefully expanded and built upon. Dead Space looks promising, although it's still somewhat new and meddling by EA executives might derail it in the same way that ME was derailed.

People really seem to like Starcraft and Eve Online as well, but I've never played either of them so I don't know how they stack up.

If you like RTS games and good-story telling but don't mind on waiting for sequels then Starcraft is for you.

P.S. if you do play Starcraft 1 too (little outdated graphics but solid gameplay) :P

Its a hard fight between Halo (especially if you played Reach, which was a phenomenal game) and proably Half-Life.

EDIT: Oh Boy. I totally forgot about Zone of the Enders which is one my absolutely favorite series of ALL time. if you are willed to get into the story, you won´t regret it.

Since in the real Mass Effect continuity, not the one those guys in Canada, eh.... what was, it Bio-War, or something tried to finish, this 'starkid' and his three magic doors don't exist, and Shepard is really still sitting at Hammer Base, waiting for someone who knows what they're doing to visualize the real story.

KOTOR, great experience. SWTOR - as a single player game, the character stories were fantastic, not so hot as a MMO though. KOTOR 2, good, bad ending and far more restricted than the original.

I like Space MArine, since you get to play a human tank and shot the poop outa stuff.

Honestly, nothing pure sci-fi really ever grabbed my attention the way Mass Effect did.

Completely agree - I was a big "Trekkie" in the day, but ME has surpassed that by a long shot.

KOTOR. the only real issue i had with KOTOR, is that it made the galaxy feel realy small. Mass Effect was so much better, until the ending.. hope they fix it.

Headcanon-ending Mass Effect series is looking really good now.

i would still say mass effect is the greatest sci-fi saga.

i don't agree with the opinion that the last 5-10 minutes of the final game makes the other 120 hours or so of gameplay and story worthless.

2nd best sci-fi game saga... tough call.  im trying to think of any sci-fi game sagas that had anything close to a compelling story.

id say it would be mechwarrior.  played the crap out of those games as a kid and actually kinda like the lore behind it all.
