If the aim point were not in the center, but optionally one-third to one-half of the way between center and upper right corner, or even independently adjustable to any point in the upper right quadrant, this would be less of an issue. For example, when I am moving, I typically have to have my aim point down too far to fire at where I am moving. Or in cover, I cannot see optimally and pop up and fire, I have to compromise because of the aim point. Vertical change would alone be quite a benefit.
Alternatively, our characters could have the option of being "ghostly" (transparency) in the same way as other characters on our team. Being able to see through our own character would pretty much eliminate some of the issues. The aim point would still be wrong for how we walk or view when under cover, but we would survive better by not having a blind spot. Most people in real life are not blocked by their own bodies
