I was ambivalent towards Liara in most of ME1 & 2, grew on her in LotSB, and actually REALLY liked her in ME3. I thought the time capsule scene was appropriate for her character and didn't come off as a sexual or romantic come-on. Same with the mindmeld on Earth which could have easily stepped over the friend-zone line...it ended up really sad & sweet, instead.

The scene I DID mind, though, was the cabin visit where Shepard is in the bathroom. When Liara was leaning against the door & speaking with my Shep, the entire thing felt very intimate and my first thought was "This should be Garrus (my LI) talking to me". Something akin to the scene in DA2 following your mother's death, where the character who consoles you changes dependent upon your LI.

I don't agree that every character in every game should be able to be killed or blocked from your available party, but having Liara (or any squadmate, for that matter) forced into your squad for multiple missions does get annoying. For example, in ME1 you don't have to bring Garrus on his 'Dr Saleon/Heart' sidemission - you even get different dialogue in speaking with him afterwards.

Very well written and adressing the core flaws with the writers favourites.

I'll admit I enjoyed the Illusive man overall, and I also enjoyed Liara, but they both give a slight feel of creators pet. Even so, both are suitable for the setting and at least balanced out in the plot relevance.

The rest really did degrade the game. Kai leng was overdone without him being as relevant at all. Basically over the top boss foreshadowing. CATABRAT pissed me off to no end. And of course, the endings.

Liara's problem isn't that there's too much Liara. It's that there's not a similar amount of the other chracters someone might like better. Ok, and the sudden metamorphosis into a suave information broker, a highly social work, when she was before a recluse is ridiculous. I understand that she needed to change to recover your body, and she wanted revenge on the Shadow Broker. Losing her innocense in the process was good character development. But they could have tried to be reasonable.

On the other hand, taking over the SB's job fit her fine. It's still a reclusive job where she just needs to sort through the data her operatives return and hand out assignments without ever meeting face to face. It's the bit in Illium that makes no sense.

She is still however, qualitatively different from Kai Leng, TIM and the Catalyst. The problem with them is that there's too much of them, period.

I have to disagree; the problem (in my opinion) is indeed that there is far too much Liara. They could rename ME3 as The Shepard and Liara Show and it would be accurate. <_<

The issue with Kai Leng is that he is a character from the books, and the game assumes you read the books. To know who Kai Leng is.

THAT. IS. STUPID.

Not everyone wants to read crappy tie-in novels. So when this smug little **** with a Japanese sword (while Kai Leng is Chinese) starts showing up and being stupid, you have literally no idea who he is.

Unless. You. Read. The. Books.

Though he is a pretty crappy character anyway. He shows up only a few times. Spouts a bunch of stupid nonsense, has cutscene powers, and then dies. That's it. He hardly does anything but get his ass kicked or embarrsed over and over and over.

I know some people say you are supposed to hate him because he is "evil" but I hate him because he is a ****ty character that belongs in another story.
