Doesn't mean Mass Effect 3 will.Messi Kossmann wrote...

Nope until the major issues are resolved: ending, journal, bugs-glitches, plotholes...
If Skyrim wins...
Do you think Mass Effect 3 deserves GOTY?

For a game to get the year of the award it has to be fantastic in all aspects of the game, start, middle, and end. You can forgive alot of the game's mistakes but that ending should not have been allowed into the game. So no, it should not win the game of the year.

Over 75 perfect scores from critics.
But the fans largely hated it for the ending.

The critics all work for magazines or websites that are owned by the major investors and shareholders who own EA.

The missing pieces of the game (the extra stuff that made nice filler to break the monotony of the shooter game that the previous two had, the plot holes galore) prevent me from thinking this deserves GOTY.
Also if they fix said issues with DLC, I do not believe that counts as I consider the released game and patches to be the deciding factor for me.
The worst part is: I really wanted to have a GOTY with the finale.

endings aside, and judging it as the end to a trilogy, no.
It's weird. When they do things right, they absolutely nail it. But when things go wrong they come a screeching halt.

No.
I'm not sure who gets to decide on this.

Unfortunately ME3 isn't 99% good, it's 70% good.
They were so close to an epic conclusion of the saga, but a lot of things feel rushed, and of course the weak and non-sense ending plot (and the lack of real influence of your choises, besides the EMS value) ruins a lot of it, and i doubt that they could do some miracle with the extended cut (well, it still might be all a brilliant ruse and the IT might be correct, but i don't think so, they've gone too far with the current endings).
So no, they can't go away with it.

We'll see after EC comes out. If it's good, then maybe, though it will spark an entirely new debate whether ME3 can still qualify for GOTY if it didn't ORIGINALLY came out being as good as (potentially) it will be with EC.
One way or another, Mass Effect franchise has cemented it's status as one of the most important franchises in gaming history. Extremely rarely any game can dominate the media to the degree Mass Effect 3 did.

It is an 8/10 game at best so I doubt it.

Change the name of the category to:
"Game of the Year up until the last five minutes when it **** it's pants."
I believe we have a winner.

Nope, the game is a 7/10 even without taking the ending into account, with the ending it's a 6/10. But game of the year means nothing anyway.

Unless Bioshock Infinite misfires worse than ME3, I expect it to be unanimous.

Lots of other high profile games coming out this year so I doubt it. Games like Guild Wars 2, Diablo 3, Assassin's Creed 3, Bioshock Infinite, etc. ME 3's problem isn't just the ending anyway. So my answer would be. NO!

Way too early in the year, way too many other big games coming out, I'm sure it will win one or two from places that don't really matter, I know it wont win VGA GOTY just because that is fan voted.
