My party consisted of Alistair, Wynn and Leliana.

It's been a LONG time since I've played it. The game was a masterpeice and I liked these companions so much that I always wanted them in my party. Therefore in most of my playthroughs I avoided recruiting anyone else. I found these three had interesting personalities that really complimented each other and my own.

Morrigan and I had a falling out in Lothering

Dog (only if I was a noble)

Sten: left in the cage

Zeveran: Stabed

In the ME games I had my favourite squad mates of course but I liked everyone and made sure I used each squadmate in at least a few missions and/or assignments. However in DA:O I wanted to use Alistair, Wynn and Leliana in every quest so I never bothered getting anyone else as all they would do is sit in the camp. Aside from recruitng I completed the game 100%.

That's a typical "white" warden (good guy) party set-up. I've done it before, not my favorite party though. I prefer to travel with Morrigan, Shale, and Sten currently. Some of my Warden's don't recruit everyone, some recruit all and switch between members often. Both ways are fun.

Some people are so concerned with never letting companions receive negative points in their attitudes toward the warden. I don't get that. You are a group of strangers thrown together to end the blight after all. I enjoy having companions disagree with me at times.

How do you know that you wouldn't enjoy Sten or Zevran if you've never recruited them at all?

I sort of enjoy the recruitment part of the game. Not that I always use all of the characters, but more for the sake of having a larger talent pool to drawn from.

I once started a solo run and got about ten hours into the game when I realized that I was not really enjoying it very much. It occurred to me that a big part of the appeal to the game (for me) is the team-building element. I spend a great deal of time tinkering with the tactics menu. Getting the team to work together -- no matter what their various talents are -- that is what keeps me coming back to replay the game.

It is not really necessary to talk much to any of the characters that are recruited. Sometimes dialogue will trigger a personal quest, so if I want that quest I will talk to the character long enough to cause the quest to trigger. But other than that, I recruit mostly for the sake of building teams I can use in various situations.

Nothing wrong with that if that's your thing, but I can't imagine the party dialogue was the best. Those are the three nicest, most wholesome characters available. I bet they just got along all the time. Fun party banter comes about when they're ****ing and sniping at each other. Far more entertaining.
