BW stated that the game would only come with a disc-check. I do not have the game yet and this is one of the main sticking points for me. If I buy the CE, will I be able to play/use all content I purchased WITHOUT an internet connection?

BW employees have said that no internet connection is required, the most recent example (I think) being this one (scroll down to bottom):

There is no requirement for an internet connection. If you don't have one the game plays just fine

Now, from the help page here

Downloadable content for Dragon Age: Origins is associated with a BioWare/EA Online account. In order to use/play the content, you need to be logged in with the same account you used to purchase or redeem the content.

[emphasis mine]

So which is it? After downloading/installing DLC, do I need an internet connection to use/play that content? This is important because I don't like playing a single player game online, and also because I think it would affect the CE (though not the normal edition unless you download content, if I understand correctly?).

Disc check only, game works fine for my Iraq-bound brother, you're safe.

You need internet if you want DLC of course.

You need to log in once after installing DLC. After that, it all works in offline mode. I usually play offline and then sign in when I'm done to see if it'll upload my achievements and stuff.

For the DLC, you must be connected to the internet to DL it, obviously. After that, you need to sign into the account that DLed in-game. This does not mean you have to be connected to the internet. It simply means the account that owns the DLC must be the one playing the game in order for that DLC to function. Once you've DLed the DLC and activated it, you can play off-line for as long as you want.

No idea on that, roybm. I can play my game offline, including the DLC, with no issues.

I can log in DLC content without being logged in. There was a solution to a common problem with that, though... Try searching the forums...

A few things could be the issue, and some of them could be specific to how you bought the game (certain digital downloads had issues) and what operating system you are running.   As always, 'this isn;t working' is not enough information for people to give accurate solutions.

well im using the following and just upgraded my pc hardware. Keep in mind it did this on the old hardware as well.

Retail copy of the game.

Windows 7 x64

AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE (3.2ghz)

MSI NF980-G65 motherboard

Corsair Dominator DDR3 4gigs

2X EVGA 9800GT SC (Both in X16 SLi)

Now are we talking about " Logged in " as in logged into the game? or logged into the internet for online and offline mode.

To be a little more specific, my content always seems to have to " Phone Home " to reauthorize every time i load the game, or it will refuse to load any save files with the specific activated DLC.

- Logged out of game but connected to internet = unauthorized content and any save files will refuse to load until they are reauthorized.

- Internet connection off = unauthorized content, still will not load any save files with DLC.

- Internet connection on and logged into game = everything works.

I bought my copy beginning to mid November (cant remember specific date) and the DLC after I had it installed.

@roybm:
1. Go to your C:\\Documents and Settings\\Username\\My Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Settings directory
2. Edit the file AddIns.xml
3. Look for lines that say RequiresAuthorization="1"
4. Change all these 1s to 0s
5. Save

Now you should be able to play the game (and load your saved games) without logging in, with all your DLC available to you.

Sometimes I'll get a "This save contains premium content. In order to use it, you have to suck EA's ****," or something like that.

Well I just unplugged my internet connection and started up the game and it worked fine for me.

All those are still set to 1 for me and I can still load my saved games fine with no internet connection.

Shannara13: I couldn't until I made that change. Apparently the problem is linked to some of the 'packs' (multiple items together in one DLC item, such as the CE DLC). It is possible that, even though the file containing them all is present on your system and authorized, some of the items in it were not 'linked' to that authorization.

It's possible to delete the downloaded DLC, select the item in question, and then redownload and reauthorize the DLC (for each item causing problems), but setting the 1s to 0s is considerably easier and has the same effect.

If my memory isn't failing here, you need to have your CD-key properly 'installed' onto your computer's registry to do DLC offline.

This is usally automated via installing, but some systems/configurations/game versions don't automatically do it (or just plain won't do it unless you manually edit the registry).

In my Addins.xml files, I can't find the line that says RequiresAuthorization="1".  I tried looking for it with the Find feature, but it wasn't there.  Where in the .xml file is it supposed to be located?

Thank you for the replies.

So just to confirm, if I buy the game, download DLC, then want to play it, I have to 'sign in' into the game, but I don't need to be connected to the internet? And if this does not work, I can try the fix posted in this thread?
