I love it (sarcasm) when a templar asks a mage about apostates, and Cullen tells mage Hawke that mages aren't people.
Nice pics of the various mage robes. Hopefully we'll see some designs similar to them in DA3.

I imagine my pc would say something like yes you're right! I'm secretly a cow in disguise,
he also calls anders a mage but yet just lets him walk around

I think mages in robes would be a lot less noticeable if non-mages wore robes and carried staves too.
Well, Leliana joined in DA:O while wearing a robe, and she's no mage. My guess was that mage Hawke was pretending to be one of the Chantry initiates or something (since many of the more robe-like robes have Chantry symbols on them). The staves are a bit less explicable; I've seen a few non-mages with them, but they were all dwarves in Orzammar. That struck me as a bit odd, since they even gave you one of them, and it was in fact a fully-functional mage staff that none of them would ever have been able to use.

In a medieval setting where people do wear long costume (fancy speak for floor-length robes), mage gowns might conjure images of nobility and privilege, rather than magic, exactly. That said, I do like the elegant simplicity of the mage robes from the first DA2 DLC item pack. I particularly like the functionality of the first set, but Malcolm's bequest is nice, too, in a "use a lot of cloth" kind of way.
Mostly, I don't like the "Oh, look, it's a mage robe" look. I don't like Irving's plastic epaulets, and I don't like "pleather" mage robes. It's cloth. Make it look like cloth. Or make it look like real leather armor, or what have you. Don't make it look like plastic.

I don't care that mages wear robes. I care that most robes, espeically the default robe and variants/recolours, look terrible.
