Ok, I have the Achievement for siding with the Mages, and have tried to get the one for siding with the Templars (which I am assuming is the achievement to the right of the Mages one) but I cant seem to get it.

So I guess I have 2 questions, ,,,,  IS there an achievement for siding with the Templars?

and WHEN is that choice made.... do you choose at the beginning while talking to the knight commander... or later when you find the trapped Templar?

Thx :)

You can get it by not using the litany in the combat against Uldred. This has the benefit of keeping wynne on your team.

Don't tell Wynne that you're going to purge the tower or, else, you'll have to put her down.

Do you lose the lyerium trade quest from ozammar if you side with the templars?

You need to wait for Uldred to turn all present mages, the First Enchanter including, into abominations.

I noticed that if you use the litany once, or kill Uldred too fast, Irving will survive and sadly there's no option to slit the throat of the corrupted mage if he does.

There's another way of getting this achievement without upsetting Wynne or letting all the mages be turned into abominations, which I got completely by accident.

After you've defeated Uldred by using the Litany of Ardralla, you go downstairs to talk to Gregoir. When he asks you what you think he shoud do, you can choose the option to say 'if you let even one Bloodmage escape, you may regret it later.' This opens up a dialogue path which can end with the remaining mages being sent to be interrogated by the Chantry, unlocking the 'Annulment Invoker' achievement and the Templar army to side with you in the final battle. Since the mages were going to be sent to Lothering, I'm not sure if this option remains open after the village is destroyed by darkspawn; I haven't tested that since I went to the Circle first.

I'm not sure being 'interrogated' by the Chantry is that much better for the mages than being turned into abominations and slaughtered, not to mention that Lothering is not a very safe place to be in this game. However, it was a great roleplaying option for the character I was playing at the time, who didn't want to slaughter ever mage in the tower but was also uneasy about letting any Bloodmages go free.

Oh. . . this certainly is an eye opener. Can you still get this achievement if you come from the Circle of Magi Origin?

I am pretty sure this achievement is decided at the end after the final battle of the Tower.  When you come back to Gregoir with Irving.  During this conversation push Gregoir to purge all mages and it should activate the achievement.

As far as I know any thing you say up until this point does not matter.

I don't see any reason why you can't.  You are a Grey Warden now and no longer under the jurisdiciton of the circle or even apart of the Circle of Magi anymore.  Technically you could still be hunted down as a maleficar but you are not an apostate IE you are registered under the Circle.

Cool. thanks.  On that note, in my game Jowan was sent back to the circle before I had completed the quest.  Will Jowan influence the outcome too or is he just an extra at this point?

Irving isn't corrupted at all if he survives. The demons possessing the mages kinda makes it obvious if one is an abomination or not.

I'm assuming that the templars took up the last army slot, or did the mages and templars happen to appear at the same time when you called one of them during the battle?

Dragon Age wikia mentioned that even if Irving survives, you can still side with the templars.  Or are you just saying this because you don't like Irving?

Anyone know if it matters if you spare or kill the one female blood mage you interact with during the Broken Circle?

Talk about necromancing...

I believe that it is said in dialogue that both will fight with you in the final battle, but in the end you will only be able to summon the mages.

Twice now I have sided with the templars--and First Enchanter Irving survived the fight both times, but the codex and the story note on my bioware Dragon Age character profile says he's dead.  :|

I actually just did this quest, and chose to kill the Mages. At the end when your talking with the Knight-Commander, Irving offers himself to the Templars for whatever they see fit to do with him. If they kill him.. I don't know. But I'm assuming that they do something bad with him.

My Awakenings profile is bugged with references to events that only happen in Origins and missing out on pretty much most of what my Surana Warden did in Amaranthine, so I wouldn't be surprised.
