In honor of Morrigan and Flemeth, shouldn't we mention Aeryn Sun and Capt. Janeway?

I suppose laser weapons are out for DA:O, but at least the Blood Dragon Armor transfers to ME2.

The Predator. He's got the strength of a warrior, the cloaking device of a rogue and the plasma cannon of a... mage? He's one ugly mother ... well I don't think Morrigan would sleep with him.

Aeryn Sun, I agree with you. But Captain Janeway as Flemeth? It's the same actress, but any similarity in the characters ends there, absolutely.

Captain Janeway would not be a mage - as a skeptic and believer in science as the source of human welfare and evolution, she would absolutely be a templar and/or a grey warden.

So, even though I adore Kate Mulgrew's performance as Flemeth, the character of Flemeth couldn't be farther from the character of Janeway, other than mannerisms and personality quirks.

Well, maybe on a really bad day... No, you're right. I was being silly, and like you, I adored Kate Mulgrew's performance as Flemeth. I wish I had seen her Clytemnestra.

On the other hand, Janeway is a great model for a "good" female warrior, and the OP did ask for ideas on creating a warrior.

Link, from the Legend of Zelda. He'd be a sword-and-shield warrior with some skills in archery.

Yeah, and a boomerang!  I wants boomerang mod!

Others I can think of:

Fafhrd (and/or Grey Mouser) for the rogue players
Perseus (or Odysseus)
Eric the Red (or some other Viking conquerer) - make for a good reaver

Perhaps for some sword and shield ones:

The knights from Excalibur, that version from the 80s i think.

There is something cool about the shiny knights with sword and shield riding into battle, as unrealistic as it was.

Hannibal Barca.

Any time someone wipes out 50,000+ Roman legionnaires in less than a day, when he was out numbered, they deserve to be mentioned.

I actually thought of him? I know he was a great general and he fought from the front.  But do you know what his weapons of choice were? prob sword and shield I suspect.

As a history teacher, I have to go with the man who conquered the Persian Empire and refused to back down in the face of overwhelming odds: Alexander the Great. I will take him over any other warrior.

Well, for mythology's sake, I'm particularly fond of Athena, Grecian goddess of wisdom and war (often depicted with helmet, shield and spear). Despite her all too human failings at times (vindictiveness against Arachne for one), she greatly influences the victories of Grecian mythological heroes such as Perseus and Odysseus. Also, while being the goddess of war she is said to dislike violence and prefers settling disputes with wisdom and foresight. There is also a sereneness and stoicism to her depictions in classical art that I find very compelling.

For historical purposes, I'm drawn to Fu Hao (seen with battleaxe in picture), wife of a king in the ancient Chinese Shang dynasty. Personally I see her as an inspiration because her example stands in contrast to the paternalism, patriarchy and sexism of the times (I remember wryly an 'oracle bone' inscription that stated how disappointed her husband the king was with the birth of a much-anticipated child by Fu Hao that "was not good" because "it was a girl"). Yet Fu Hao herself appeared to have gained a position of great power in society, because she served as high priestess and as a military general whom her husband explicitly trusted to lead campaigns, and had her own fiefdom. Her tomb was also lavishly equipped with funerary objects and several ceremonial items that would indicate great royal and military prestige. Of course, her being the beloved companion of the king probably had much to do with her status, but her story is still unusual for women in Chinese history.

More than likely, yes.  Considering the time in which he lived, it ismost likely that he wore some form of chainmail or lighter leather armor.

Conan is my all time favorite. Grew up reading anything I could find with him in it. Also R.A Salvatore's creations.....Drizzt, Bruenor, Wulfgar, Cattie-brae etc. Also the dark and twisted Elric.  And another I did not see mentioned Kull.
