For those that don't know, I'm actually a video faneditor in my spare time and as part of a current project I'm working on based on ME3, I've really been scratching my head at how to handle the climax... specifically, how to handle the character of the Catalyst who, in my opinion, severely breaks the themes and narrative of both Mass Effect 3 and the entire series (in addition to being a ridiculous and cloying "deus ex machina" character with one of the biggest bullsh*t circular-logic traps I've ever come across in any narrative media....).

My initial idea was to completely redub the Catalyst, giving him new dialogue and a new explanation on why the Reapers exist, but it still wouldn't solve the problem of Commander Shepard, who de-evolves in those scenes into a mere participant who passively accepts the Catalyst and his reasonings.

But then I realized an even better solution.... you don't even need the character in the story.

This is a concept test I did of such an ending where the presence of the Catalyst has been completely removed from the climax - not only does it remove the major plotholes and ridiculous character moments that the Catalyst character introduces into the story, but it would also return the Reapers' presence back into the "unknowable, alien" force that they've been in the previous two games (why did the viewers ever need to know the reasons behind the Reapers' harvesting? What's wrong with keeping them and their purpose as being mysterious and unknown to both the characters and the viewer?).

I agree with you 1000%! If the Extended Cut had completely removed Star Brat the entire issue would have been solved because the problem with the Catalyst is that he removes the entire original plot of the game and solves the BS one in less than 10 minutes.

I actually don't even listen to the part with the Catalyst anymore, I just mute the game then go to the destroy ending and feel way more satisfied. If someone could someday mod the game enough to the point where the Catalyst is completely removed and uses some of the slides from the synthesis/control endings to show EDI and the Geth survived the "artistic integrity" of Mass Effect would be restored!

Nevermind. I just noticed this is four months old.
