 For me I would want the following characters to survive: Sheppard, Wrex, Garius, Liara and Tali.  Ashley living would be ok, but not entirely necessary.

The ending would go something like this.  Sheppard gets to the Citadel and inputs the Reaper codes found in one of the previous side missions.  The crucible then sends out and energy wave which is amplified and sent out by the Citadel throughout the Mass Relay network.  This energy wave then disables all the Reapers everywhere in the galaxy.  The Relay network is left intact.  

As no one knows how the Reapers actually moved the Citadel to Earth, no one is sure how to move the Citadel back to the nebula.  Earth becomes the new galactic centre for trade, and politics.  The process begins to provide aid in rebuilding the planets decimated by the Reapers.  The Council is at the forefront for delagating the movement of supplies, troops and other aid throughout the galaxy.  The massive fleet surrounding earth switches from war to defense and transport of supplies.  

Wex goes home to lead the Krogan people into an new era of peaceful co-operation with the Citadel races.  And a new Krogan homeworld is provided as compesense for their assistance.  Garius is asked to become the new head of Citadel Security.  Tali becomes the new Ambassador to the Citael, where she shares an office with the Geth Ambassador.  Tali and Garius continue their relationship.  Sheppard is given one of several choices:  Promoted to Admiral and assumes Anderson's command, Promoted as the newly appointed position of Commander of Spectre Forces, Promoted to Captain and given command of the Normandy and continues on protecting the Galaxy, Retires and takes up residence at the home she won.  However I would choose to become the new Councilor for Earth on the Citadel.  She would continue her relationship with Liara, having several blue babies.  Liara would reduce some of her Shadow Broker duties so she could write her book(s) on the true history of the Prothean People.

That is what I would have liked to see happen.
