I understand it perfectly. Shepard knew the whole thing was a load of crap and wanted it over with.BecBec wrote...

And so Shepard shot the pipe and saved the galaxy

I was not aware of that, however, what I was implying with the 'crucible will be destroyed' line was the literal 'The Crucible has been destroyed.' message that you get when you wait too long on the Catalyst. The Grey Nayr wrote...
You do realize that Shepard wasn't inside the Crucible where the Pipe and control panel were, right?
That was the core of the Citadel, which was inaccessible beforehand. Read the codex on the Keepers.
It's like Hackett said. The Crucible wasn't doing anything and it was apparently something on the Citadel side that had to be done.
But just so we are absolutely clear.

"So I have to shoot this pipe to save the galaxy?"
"Yes. Shoot the pipe and you will save the galaxy from the reapers."
"Why do I have to shoot this pipe?
"You could also grab those glowing joy sticks or jump into the beam of light, if you prefer that."
"I mean, why would anyone build a device that gets activated by shooting a pipe?"
"I don't know. I'm just here to tell you what it does."
"So what will shooting that pipe do exactly?"
"It will destroy all synthetic life. Even you are partly synthetic."
"So you're implying I will die?"
"Actually, I'm not sure about that... what's your EMS again?"
"Nevermind. What about EDI?"
"Probably... wait, no, it's been confirmed she survives."
"Now that's just absurd. So now you're saying shooting that pipe only destroys a certain type of synthetics? Does that pipe have a personality of its own or something? How does it choose who to destroy or not destroy exactly?"
"Listen, if you don't hurry up already the crucible will be destroyed."
"What? By whom?"
"Unfortunately, you won't get to see that."
"Alright, I'll just shoot this pipe and we'll see what happens."
"Fun!"
- Extended cut dialogue with the Catalyst
EDIT: Also, because DJBare reminded me:
Shepard's Internal Voice while shooting the pipe: "Slowly walking and directly looking into the explosion will guarantee to make me look like a cool guy. Or was it 'Cool Guys don't look at ex-" *Citadel explodes*

Thus, the only way to destroy the Reapers is to destroy the ion vent that powers them, because that is the only choice that eliminates convention.

The blue text controls your thoughts. The red arrow destroys that line of thought and makes you seek it's destination. The green circle synthesises that destination with the conclusion. For you are there.

Why would whoever invented the Crucible make three choices that were all activated different ways anyway? Could they not make up their mind as they were building it? And how did all the human, asari, salarian, rachni engineers who put it together not understand what they were building when it was something as pathetically simple as "jump in light to win" or "shoot pipe to win".

It also begs the question: does Shepard have to jump into the beam? Couldn't they have thrown in TIM's corpse or something? How about one of the mangled bodies from inside the Citadel? Why did it have to be Shepard?

Kid did not say anything about indoctrinated bodies being bad, the big thing i got was that the body had to be part synthetic, im so tossing TiM's A** in there.

No, as I said earlier. I didn't like the ending, but whining about it 24/7 won't make it better. They are working on the extended cut, but still people are whining. The extended cut is not enough for some people, and still they don't even know it's content. All we know is that it will give us clarification and closure.
And legitimate customer complaints? Tell it to Bioware employees who have been harassed and threatened by some people, I know not all people are like that. But I see alot of whining about small things that don't even matter. If you analyze all games like some people do about ME3, there wouldn't be any good games at all. I know ME3 have some flaws, but all games has flaws.
EDIT: And most of us want? Don't you think there are alot of people out there who likes this game but doesn't bother to come to this forum? People who likes to complain about something they don't like wan't to get response from developers and other people, while others who like the game are playing it instead of being here.
