If Contemporary Humanity Could be "Uplifted" by One of the ME Races, Which One Would be Best?

In my opinion the Asari would be best. They have the best technology and they look enough like us that we'd be more willling to cooperate with them - we all know what happened when we encountered the Turians first.

Salarians might use us as biological weapons, like the krogan or varren.
Protheans might be good if they're included.
Otherwise asari would probably be best.

Pretty much what he said. There's not a whole lot to debate here. The Asari are the only ones who seem to be in the business of uplifting races without an ulterior motive.Dark_Caduceus wrote...
Turians would be terrible, we'd become a client race.

How? We aren't really a threat. I can possibly see a Krogan rebellions type thing happening but we aren't nearly as durable as they are so it would be a short war. Most of humanity's problems boil down to the following: Overpopulation, rapid depletion of resources, artificial divisions introduced by regional religious and economic systems, if we were given just one colony most of these problems would solve themselves.

We decided it was a smart idea to ignite fission weapons in our only biosphere. Never underestimate human stupidity

We're pretty much Krogans, anyway.

As did every other race in the ME Universe, most likely. Nuclear tech always comes before or with spaceflight and it has to tested somehow. In the description for a completely nuked planet in ME2, the homeworld of some now extinct race, it says something like "it is the general consensus in the xeno-archeology community that reaching the nuclear age, and surviving the first fifty years, is a clear sign of a race's diplomatic skill and intelligence." The Krogan did not reach this milestone.

so we strip mine our colony and destroy another world? it would be better to solve our own problems. even though meeting a race of hot blue alien babes would be awesome

We could live on the colony and stripmine some unattractive asteroid or moon.

Salarians would have some kind of convoluted purpose in store for us.
Asari, who knows.
I'd say elcor, personally. They strike me as least likely to have some sort of selfish endgame in mind, and they're only a minor power in galactic society.

Yup I see many Illusive Men "looking" out for our interests. In a decade we would most likely betray them or declare war..

I think the Asari uplifting races is part of a rather clever but benign strategy to increase their own power. If you uplift a race, they will likely be forever grateful (unless you enslave them or do other horrible things, which the Asari do not do) eventually that race will gain some power, a military, etc. if galactic war breaks out you have a guaranteed ally, and in mundane, regular negotiations you have another race to back you.
