In my opinion the Asari would be best. They have the best technology and they look enough like us that we'd be more willling to cooperate with them - we all know what happened when we encountered the Turians first.

Being the first to arrive on the scene, they have the most experience in dealing with new arrivals to galactic civilization. Plus, they're probably the most technologically advanced, for a lot of reasons (oldest civilization, their scientists live a thousand years, etc). So, they would have the most to teach us.
They look the most familiar. This would go a long way. Having an attractive, feminine appearance would help ease tensions with our typically more aggressive males. We would be less likely to start a war with a race of beautiful women. The ability for humans to father asari children should help, as well... even if the resulting child is still an asari. Being able to build a family together would help bridge the gap and strengthen ties.

The Yahg.
Do you think they'd eat us?
Probably just enslave us.
But yeah, the Asari would be good. They'd use us and manipulate us, but less than most other races.
Thing is, you really don't want another race to help you ascend. That's the message of ME. Do it yourself and you'll be better/stronger for it.
Just look at Humanity they got off their planet on their own and by doing so they were A LOT stronger than most races.

Asari. They are the least likely to rush an important decision like this, due to their incredibly long lifespan. Their tendency toward playing the long game diplomatically would minimize the possibility of any perception of exploitation in the beginning because it is not uncommon for them to patiently wait centuries for a deal to pay off.

Agreed. The asari would be the mostly widely accepted to humanity,

They are the ones with enough diplomacy and patience to deal with human stupidity.

It`s much more likely to be Asari, or possibly Salarian (although I don`t know what we can bring to the table that would influence a salarian uplifting)

The Asari would take their time but they would be bringing us into their system to follow what they say. They are only as advanced as they are because they had the Prothean tech while it is them that make it illegal for other races to hide such things. The Asari basicly run the galaxy because they manipulate everyone and thing around them.
Due to this Salerians are the best option. The Salerians if nothing else would be very clear on what they want us for. With their history once we do our job the Salerians wont care anymore and we could do what we wanted as long as we dont start a war and start slamming rocks into other peoples colonies.

That would be SO much more interesting than the usual earthly version of such visits.

Not to mention, probes that go up your butt. "Feces Analyser", huh? Still an alien anal probe, by any other name.

Hmmm... so that means. Bioware are really in the employ of the Salarians trying to prepare a whole new generation for open first contact?

Salarians? Hack no last race they uplifted got the genophage. They would likely use us for expandable soldiers and if we made too much trouble give us the snip snip no more babies.
The Krogan waged open war the whole galaxy and it was not until they started smashing asteroids into garden planets that they decided to use the genophage.
As long as Humanity did not do that we would be safe to do what ever we wanted.
