 Hello

Title says everything, would you like a Batarian squad mate on the campaign?

Its a species not that known as the others, and it will be a great way to learn more about them, culture, religion etc. It will also be a great character to interact with, since its homeworld is been completely lost.

Its the species that most lost, and i think the way this could affect a Batarian character would be very interesting to approach.

What do you think?

If you want to support the Batarian squad mate here is the group:

YES! YES! YES!

They deserve to be shown in a good light like Geth were with Legion or Krogans with Wrex.

If this wasn't the final game in Shepard's story against the Reapers, then yes. But since it is, I would much rather an old ME2 squaddie return, or to have Giana Parasini as a squad mate (I know she is an investigator, but shush, I can dream!)

Sure why not. Might actually help the story in the intro be less idiotic too.

It would be cool, but unless such a character was planned for during development, they won't be as integrated as other squad members. More like Zaeed or Kasumi, I imagine.

No thanks. The game universe shows and tells us that basically its an entire civilization based on criminality, corruption, and "survival of the fittest" where slavery is legal, warfare and crime run rampant, and to date only 2 Batarians in the entire trilogy were not some form of terrorist, criminal or bad guy.

Plus I find them aesthetically repulsive.

but hey that's just my opinion. :)

Yeah I'd be ok that. But still even if it was made like 'lair of the shadow broker' style with Miranda or Jack it would be good. Or getting Miranda to join past Sanctuary, or helping Jack and her biotic whelps, or anything involving ME2 squad members... so much waisted potential..

This, I want my Krogan sqaudmate.

But having a Batarian would be interesting. We really don't know anything about them, and it would be cool to find how his/her views the human vs. batarian tension, and especially the events of Arrival.

DLC idea: The Normandy picks up a distress call, from a Batarian unit still holding out and has valuable intel on the Reapers. You go, make contact with this special forces unit, which results in some tension when Shepard shows up, one of the most hated individual in the Batarian Hegemony. However, the Reapers attack with overwhelming force and forces Shep and the Batarians to retreat, and in the end the officer is the last alive and gets injured. He is healed aboard the Normandy, and isn't happy about it, but understands. Shepard can then recruit him, and he agrees since he doesn't actually hate Shepard and sees this as a best way to take the fight to the Reapers.

What do you think?

Not bad idea indeed.

AND i also prefer the Batarian over ME2 squad mates, why? cause i already know a lot about them, i know about there species and i know about them and speak mostly everything its relevant with them.

I rather see a complete new character, some one new to know and a species that you dont know so much about, neither of the point of view of the avarage Batarian.

No, I want a DLC that expands the roles of the ME2 characters (Thane, Miranda, Jack, Jacob and Samara)

Wouldn't be bad. Though I think the batarians are always shown as the evil of the galaxy.

That is why it would be a good oppurtunity. I remember someone saying in ME3 that, without the Hegemony looking over every Batarians' shoulder, they are not that bad.

We only see one side of them throughout the trilogy, and it would good to get a new outlook on them. Not all of them are scumbags or mercs.

Rather have a Yahg, you know someone who is genuinely 'evil' and can't be trusted at all (not like Grunt who is quickly won over) but is so darn useful that you can't give them up. (maybe like Morinth)

I think the Batarian squaddie should be the sick one you save in Mordin's recruitment mission. He was a counterpoint to the "Batarians are evil" impression you get drummed into you over the series. I really liked talking to him and hearing the POV of an average, reasonable Batarian on humans and why they distrust humans so much.

Plus he was quick with that gun. ;)

The only logical way to employ a batarian is to help make sense of the beginning.

After you nuke (Hackets team nukes) the mass relay a Batarian special ops observer is sent to report on the trial. To make sure its not a kangaroo court... which it turns out to be. When he protests he is offered an "observer status" as an "embedded officer" with the N7 crew as an olive branch and to make sure the ruffled feathers arent too ruffled.

Basically a million ways to take it from there that makes sense and fits into the story... crap as it is.

Would love to have one! My Shepard would probably argue and fight with them but it would be awesome. Plus we don't much about the Batarians in terms of culture so it would be a good way to learn.

The batarians are no more an entire civilization of criminals than, say, China or North Korea, which their society is somewhat based on.

I read the book Revelation last week and it does paint a few batarians as just being regular people pretty much interchangeable with humans.

The Batarian Hegemony is a fascist-capitalist totalitarian state divided into caste systems where social standing and politeness is very highly regarded. They are tough and brave, although ruthless and brutal, but still less antagonistic and despicable than the krogan. They are stated in Revelation to have the best medical care for civilians in all of known space, which implies they have a very strong socialist streak where money goes to public institutions.

The reason batarians in the games are nearly always terrorists, slavers and criminals is because these people left the Hegemony because they were unable to conform to the strict social hierarchies and government control.

I'd love to have a batarian squadmate.
