I read the book Revelation last week and it does paint a few batarians as just being regular people pretty much interchangeable with humans.

The Batarian Hegemony is a fascist-capitalist totalitarian state divided into caste systems where social standing and politeness is very highly regarded. They are tough and brave, although ruthless and brutal, but still less antagonistic and despicable than the krogan. They are stated in Revelation to have the best medical care for civilians in all of known space, which implies they have a very strong socialist streak where money goes to public institutions.

The reason batarians in the games are nearly always terrorists, slavers and criminals is because these people left the Hegemony because they were unable to conform to the strict social hierarchies and government control.

I'd love to have a batarian squadmate.

Very well put.

Would be very interesting to interact with a Batarian who's part of the Hegemony. From my point of view, this is MUCH more interesting than having a Krogan again, since we know a lot about them already and have two of them in the previous games.

I rather see something new and refreshing.

Nah, I hate Batarians... though I would like a new squad member even if it was Batarian.

This is why I was disappointed with the announcement of Vega.

I´d really like to know more about their culture, kind of like we got to know about Javik...

A squadmate would be interesting, but they could achieve this with comics or other means I guess...

No.

Though I'm against them adding in new squadmates after the game is done. I'd rather them come out with other SP DLC.

Geez, yes. Would've been better than a Prothean in the first place.

No thanks. The game universe shows and tells us that basically its an entire civilization based on criminality, corruption, and "survival of the fittest" where slavery is legal, warfare and crime run rampant, and to date only 2 Batarians in the entire trilogy were not some form of terrorist, criminal or bad guy.

Plus I find them aesthetically repulsive.

but hey that's just my opinion. :)

So you hate Javik too? Because his all for slavery and survival of the fittest. Also his got 4 eyes like them. :wizard:

Also, make his recruitment mission on Khar'Shan. Instead of seeing a world being destroyed by the reapers, we would now see a world that has already fallen. Silence, maybe some radio calling for help that noone is answering.
Also, make him a scientist that has worked a short time with the leviathan of dis. It could be interesting seeing a squadmate coping with the fear of being indoctrinated, and watching first hand the hegemony fall down and all his friends and colleagues turn on him.

I want Grunt or Wrex back first. then maybe... but they're too ugly. he'd have to have a helmet on all the time.

and he'd have to say

"YOU SIR, ARE A BLIGHT" when he kills the enemy

A batarian squadmate would be great! They're my favorite race to play in the multi-player. A batarian squadmate DLC would be something I would actually be willing to consider purchasing.

Of course, it's all a moot point with the ending as it is, but the thought is nice.

Frankly I'd rather have an Elcor with a giant cannon on his back or a Volus self proclaimed Biotic God spouting amusing dialogue like "I'm going for the knees"

Personally no. A lot of them are anti human. No thanks in small part to their goverment.

Yeah... I don't think my canon Shepard (survivor of Mindoir, butcher of Torfan) would get along with a Batarian squaddie too well, or vice versa...

Wish we would have gotten Ballick(?) form BDTS, too many of our squad are too nice. We needed someone to hate us to add emotional depth.
