EDI though, she can just leave. I don't mind her but as a squad mate I never used her once.

You should give EDI a chance; she might surprise you. I took her on Javik's recruitment quest with Liara, and cracked up. As it turns out, she really enjoys razzing Liara. Image IPB

She has a sense of humor I certainly wasn't expecting. She's also great to take on Cerberus quests.

A little annoyed to be honest I personally like the ME2 squad better because they were a bigger selection to choose from. ME3 was basically ME1 squad without Wrex, Sure we got three new people. I like Vega but I personally rather have Grunt we are after all his battlemaster. And we never really never spent that much with Legion in ME2 and ME3 was a ample opportunity to get him to help Shepard earlier,

<SPOILERS>

EDI is a decent character, but we didn't need another robot squadmate when we already had one available.

<END SPOILERS>

Well it would not have bother me as much if some of these old ME2 squad mates were temporary squaddies like Bioware said there would. I guess I'm gonna have to treat them like Peter Molyneux don't take their word at face value or face utter disappointment.

Edit: On a sidenote, and more on topic, I did enjoy Javik, Vega, and EDI. Each one brought a type of humor I wasn't expecting. I think the squad is too small, though. The bar on the Normandy is totally being wasted.

^^ Indeed!  Almost as useless as the bathrooms.  ;-)

I had a bad feeling that after the diversity of ME2, we would see some cutbacks.  I'm still not sure why they would expand the selection so much in ME2 and get us attached to some of the characters, only to have them play a seriously minor role in ME3.  I wanted Miranda, Legion, Samara and Thane in my squad in addition to Liara and Garrus.

I would have gladly traded Tali in for any one of them. I have no use for her, or her emergency induction port.

Those who love Garrus and Tali make 99% of population. Loving them is the new state of normality, and that's what pisses me off. I'm going to get a lot of hate, but I never found them interesting at all, or ever used any of them aside from their loyalty missions. Garrus was alright, his fans ruined him for me. A simple character who looks like a villain but happens to be good at heart, nothing more than that really. Over appreciated in my opinion. Tali as well, she's cute and innocent and makes you feel protective of her but not really what I'd call a deep character.

I wouldn't really have anything against either of them if their fans weren't all ''oh god how can you hate garrus oh god'' . There are much more intriguing characters in the ME universe, and many of them deserved more than just one game.

Liked all the characters honestly... even Javik. That isn't to say that I agreed with his views, but judging the quality of a character based on their opinions differing from yours? Not something I do.  I mean, most of the ME2 chars I thought had good reason for not joining up again...  some not so much.  Samara and Jacob especially didn't seem to have good cause.

Basically I used Tali, Garrus or Javik for most of the game....so that means I have no idea XD

Yes.  And I loved her joke about spamming TIM's servers with explicit images... xD

Just think. If Garrus and Tali died in ME2, the VS dies in the Citadel Coup, and you don't have Javik, you only have a choice between James, Liara, and EDI.

Needless to say, I think the squad should've been bigger.

I was fully ready to hate Vega, but I actually like his character. I think he turned out stronger than I anticipated.

Personally I was fine with it since my favs: Tali, Liara, Kaidan/Ash were in it. Vega turned out pretty cool too I guess.

But you know if I could've chosen I would've gladly traded Garrus, EDI, Javik and Vega for Kasumi, Legion. Samara, and Grunt. And possibly would've added Jack (or Wrex) for vanguardy goodness. ;p

Though overall no complaints here regarding squadmates.

I like the squad selection. Maybe not as "varied" as ME2's but still pretty great.

I thought it was fine, but I'm still not happy that most people will have to pay separately for Javik considering how much he enriches the game. I refuse to recommend that my friends download From Ashes because of this.

I found myself actually struggling to pick my squad, because most of them I wanted with me, as opposed to ME1&2, where it was purely mechanical.

Hmmmm.

James Vega: Hi, nice to meet you. Nice arms. You're going to be really hot in about 10 years.

Kaidan/Ashley: Good to see you again! ::big hug::

Liara: Good to see you again! ::big hug::

Garrus: Uh, good to see you again again. Brofist. Look at you, climbing the ranks of the Turian Hierarchy. So wait, you're not going with Victus? You're staying on the Normandy? You don't have Turian stuff to do? No? Okay, you know where the Main Battery is, git to calibratin'.

EDI: WHAT THE ACTUAL—Really? Can we get the sex doll off the ship please? Somebody? Can we at least get a ****** cover? Engineering? Anybody? Help me out here.

Javik: So what you're saying is the Reapers did the galaxy a favor by extinctifying you guys. K.

Tali: Sup. Admiral. Congrats. Wait, you want to run around with me again? Don't you have, like, Admiral stuff that you need to—no? Okay. See you in Engineering.

The characters are a lot more distinctive than the cast in ME2, which was just sort of a bunch of self absorbed weirdos with loyalty quest issues. ME3 is much better, because its basically the cast of ME1 with a handful of new and interesting characters. (ok maybe EDI is really boring as a squadmate).

I think the whole EDI thing was an inside joke about the Talimancers.

Ashley/Kaidan, Liara, Garrus, Vega, Tali, EDI/EVA. I felt the choice were strong. Mass Effect 2 character did not have the same amount of memorable moment in the game compare to Mass Effect 3. Also Garrus is not calibrating! Liara is in squad (+1000 in my book). VS/Tali is awesome too. And Vega even though I had bad feeling about him turn out to be awesome. EDI was bad... That was a joke ahah.

Only character I would have love to bring aboard the crew would have been Miranda and a krogan. But I'm quite happy with what we got.

ME3 Squad is great, I just wish I could trade EDI for an ME2 Squadi.
I love EDI, but using her in a Squad is like voluntarily gimping yourself, everyone is more powerful then her.

Really disappointing.

EDI irks me the most. This is a completely useless addition to the game. Much would've preferred anyone from ME2 take that spot. Of course, I wanted Jack, but I would've been happy to have had any one of the ME2 squad back full time (except Jacob).

This is the first time I ever really felt like BioWare completely missed the boat with respect to the game's cast.

Seriously, EDI was massively lame.

Since the smaller squad size apparently "helps with more depth", how come Ashley and Kaidan are lacking so much in the interaction or dialogue?
Hell, at least Kaidan moves around a bit on the Normandy, but Ash just stays there in her room like an anti-social basement nerd. A quiet nerd I might add.<_<

Hell, I even saw these supposedly "cut dialogues" of theirs and it was disturbingly.... long.

I feel that Garrus and Tali have no business being squadmates in mass effect 3. That doesn't mean that they shouldn't be in the game, but they shouldn't be squadmates. There is no LOGICAL reason for them to join you on the Normandy instead of either fighting the reapers or working on the crucible, not to mention that they haven't changed at all and have no interesting character development during mass effect 3. Bioware had the opportunity to introduce new and interesting perspectives for the mass effect 3 experience (which is what made 2 so entertaining for me) and instead they just fell back on what they knew.

+1

I wish they had given players more of an opportunity to customize who they wanted to have in their squad again, in a way that included all previous companions and incorporated the war asset system. Like in the main/recruitment quests make the player choose between several different options for a squaddie who plays sort of the same role. Shepard encounters Jack at Grissom and recruits her, then runs into Samara a couple missions later and invites her to join him. She can mention that if she comes with Shepard she can't support the cause where she is, and add that Jack, also a powerful biotic, is already with him. Then Shepard can decide whether to keep both of them, losing potential war assets but gaining good teammates (especially if Kaidan died and Shep's not a biotic), or leave Samara and/or Jack to contribute to the war effort and maybe even give an assignment or two.

This way, no one would lose their favorite team members; the war asset system would have much more interactivity and customization; there would be massive replay value due to the different assignments and conversations available depending on who's recruited/ left behind; and any Shepard, no matter who's survived up to that point and what class s/he is, can assemble a well-balanced squad.

Also I would be okay with EDI butting in to say the ship has only so much room if Shep tries to recruit more than 10 companions or something.

Obviously then the linear storyline would have to be tweaked and the writers and VAs would have to have put in much longer hours. Not to mention artists and devs. So maybe this is a pipe dream :P
