Shale was a female before she became a golem. Sorry, but it gets irritating when people refer shale as him instead of her or it.

Just thought I would clear that up for everyone, and if you doubt me then listen to shale's dialogue, especially her and Leliana. Tt becomes obvious that Shale was indeed a woman and still is, just in a woman's body.

It's also explicitly stated in Shale's personal quest. Her name before becoming a golem was Shayle

I am just annoyed that there is no shale romance quest. Cmon romancing your very own portable battering ram. That would have been golden.
