Thane. Life Support is completely empty, except when my Shepard goes in there to cry.

Kudos to those who say the Normandy is too empty! It totally is - why not throw every surviving ME2 squad member in there, and let us talk to all of them? Not everyone would need to be a squad mate - giving us more flavor conversations like what was done with Mordin would be fine in some cases. But really, not getting to spend time with Grunt, have drinks with Kasumi, invite Thane up to my quarters, meditate with Samara, exchange old war wounds with Zaeed, or pick Legion's brain about the Reapers made ME3 feel far more empty than I could ever have imagined. My Shep felt like a space hermit: despite all of the people on board, few to none of them were the people she had come to care about.

Edit: The "big, empty ship syndrome" is even worse for Shepards who started in ME2 and didn't play through ME1 first. For me, ME2 characters are far more important than those in ME1: I met them first, and I made connections, friendships and a relationship with them before I even met some of the ME1 characters. I felt their absence for the entirety of my ME3 playthrough; getting them back on board would be delightful.

The ME2 squad content was certainly lacking. Looking at ME3 as it's constructed, most of the ME2 squad has really weak reasons for not rejoining the crew. At least when Kelly said why she couldn't join you on the Normandy it sounded plausible. I knew the that all 12 wouldn't be full squadmates but I figured two or three would make the cut.

Kasumi: "Last time you roped me into a suicide mission." No actually you voluntarily signed up in exchange getting Keiji's graybox. If nothing else, we needed Kasumi to show Kai Leng what a REAL space ninja is like.

Zaeed: He's a mercenary for hire with a grudge against Cerberus. Shepard is fighting Cerberus and he doesn't join up?

Thane: He's dying so I understand why wasn't a squadmate. Those who romanced him should have gotten more content however.

Jack: Looks like they were going to make her squaddie, she was the only ME2 character to get redesigned. The way her story runs in ME3, I can't see her leaving her students. That said, you should run into her more than once on Citadel. Especially if she's your LI.

Miranda: He lack of squad mate status surprised me. She was one of the most popular ME2 squad mates and TIM's former second in command.Given your active conflict with Cerberus in ME3, her going at it alone doesn't make much sense. It makes NO sense after Sanctuary.

Jacob: I know he isn't popular but he had one of the highest suicide mission survival rates in ME2. He doesn't join you to protect his people. Then you see him on the Citadel and his people are safely hidden away on the Crucible. Him not joining makes no sense. Hell, Vega has weights in the Cargo Bay. Jacob would be all over that.

Mordin: His role in ME3 is great and it actually makes sense why he isn't part of the crew.

Wrex: Same as Mordin. He's actually doing something important in the fight against the Reapers. While he is one of my favs. I liked his role and understood why he wasn't in the squad.

Grunt: Wrex's top lieutenant. He leads Wrex's most elite fighting battalion. So I understood why he wasn't apart of the crew. Although I wished that you could at least visit him in the med bay after the Rachni Queen mission.

Legion: Another one of my favs. Like Mordin is role was important and I could see why he didn't get permanent squadmate status. It's shame that such a great character got such limited screen time in ME2 and ME3.

Samara: She's another character that lacks a good reason not to join the squad after her mission is done. "I'll go where I'm needed most." Well Shepard is gathering intel and tech on the only device that can stop the Reapers. Sounds like you'd be needed most on the Normandy, Samara.

Morinth: Not one of my favorite characters. That said, she deserved better than just being a regular Banshee. I mean Jenna from Flux got dialog and she was just an NPC in ME!. Morinth was squadmate and she got nothing. Players that choose Morinth over Samara should have gotten some content. Tali's face photoshop got more effort than Morinth...

I think you have to be logical and realistic - if Bioware were to make a companion DLC, you can be sure they would make sure ANY ME3 player would have access to it. Any ME2 squad member is out because they could have died. Imagine releasing a Miranda DLC and having people who have Miranda dead not be able to buy it? That's not a smart business decision.

Same goes for all the squad members who are dead in a default ME3 file, like Samara, Legion, etc. Since there is no intro comic, new players can't choose to have those members alive and it would not make sense to offer DLC for those characters.

But Tali and Garrus can die

Tali and Garrus are also not paid DLC.  Not having Tali or Garrus alive doesn't prevent someone from playing ME3, whereas not having a ME2 squad member alive in your game (default or imported file) would prevent someone from being able to buy a DLC about the dead squad member.  It's not a wise decision to say "We're making DLC but it's only available to those who have an imported file and have this or that member alive."

No one.

Most, if not all, of the former squadmates have moved on and have no reason to come back, nor would having them come back make any sense.

Zaeed's doing a job then is done and I can see him coming back but really, why would he?

Miranda isn't going to give up looking for Oriana to join you. If she lives after Sanctuary then maybe yes. Though I haven't seen what happens if she lives. Not even certain if she can.

Jack isn't going to abandon her students.

Jacob wants to stay with Brynn and help the ex-Cerberus people.

Wrex is busy helping the Krogan

Grunt is leading Aralakh Company.

Etc... etc... you see my point.

Honsestly, it doesn't even make sense to have Garrus or Tali. Tali should be helping the Quarians and Garrus the Turians.

Jack, Thane, Miranda, Morinth, Mordin, Grunt, Wrex, Kelly and Jacob are most welcome to move back in my ship. If I had to say goodbye to someone for that to happen, Tali would be the first one to go.

I would sacrifice Liara for that in a heartbeat.

I couldn't agree more on Thane!!

Life Support feels so...forlorn!:(

I also agree on the Normandy, though I did play the games from the start-started with ME1 when ME2 came out and then played ME2-but it was ME2 that I liked the best, and it was in a big part because of all the people aboard the ship, people Shepard connected with, made friends with...people who became her family!

And we barely get to see them in ME3, except fleetingly in small missions that barely last; I miss all of them!:(

i totally agree. life support it empty, there will be no problem with it. I missed this Drell so much, his character is so great in me2 and how it ended with him in 3 broke my heart :crying::crying::crying:
it was for me like that to, i started with me2 and the crew really grow to my heart. my fave charas are thane (!!!), mordin and garrus. i love them so much <3<3
but than no one return to my beloved shepard and that pretty hurts. i wished my dream team of mordin and thane back

Thane. I want to be able to save him! All those hints about transplants and cures and him wanting to live if romanced. It was horrible seeing Kai Leng stab him and not be able to do anything... (seriously I wanted to drown that bastard in a bowl of cereal for what he did to Thane).
I would gladly pay good money to be able to save him and get him on the Normandy again.

MIiranda. Her not coming at cronos station simply doesn't makes sense at all. She belonged to that mission ,destroying cerberus, a TIM confrontation would close perfectly the cerberus arc. You should have a choice between picking miranda or edi, it would help the replay value alot i think. I can still hope they'll do it in a dlc. Maybe they can make a dlc where at a certain point of the game you get to make a mission with each ME2 squad members and mirandas mission would be cronos. i can hope :/

Forget the DLC, I'd throw half my current Normandy crew out the airlock to get Miri back. I want my genetically perfect bosh'tet sister-in-arms back as my XO.

This!  Except it's Thane.  And he's not genetically perfect.  But Thane.

Pretty much everyone else but Garrus and Liara can go.  And EDI can stay to fly the ship.  And maybe Vega.

I want Miranda.

IMO she has the biggest drop from usual quality+importance+fanbase to the actual role. Thane, Samara, Jack and others also deserve better, but I think it's the worst with Miranda.
