Mass Effect left me loving my PC more, also sparked more emotion out of me.

Both are great games though. Just my two cents.

Mass Effect: 9/10

DA:O 8.5/10

Storylines are great in both, but I say DA:O is a lot better imo. I always liked fantasy over sci-fi, and DA:O combat is a lot more fun and more replayability with the origins. One thing I hated in ME were the side quests. Having to land on planets and navigate that land vehicle over terrain and go into buildings with the same interior design as the last one was redundant.

You can tell ME was made for consoles while DA:O was made more for the PC in mind.

They both have their good and bad points. I really couldn't choose a favorite out of the two, as I enjoyed both game immensely, but it's like that old comparison of apples and oranges, IMO.

I liked the combat in Mass Effect, but Shepard moves way. Too. Slow. So when I was doing the innane amount of sidequests (half of which I found to be ... well, ****** poor), it was pretty boring.

After my first completion of DA:O, I went back to Mass Effect to give it a 2nd playthrough... after docking at the Citadel, I quickly grew bored. I'm on my 4th playthrough of DA:O and still really enjoying it (though I am wanting a patch and some REAL DLC to hit).

DA:O wins by a landslide.

Both are great and equally good but as far as depth and romance depth goes i would give it to DAO.

I would give the sidequests to DAO too, ME1's sidequests on UNC's are too repetitive.

But i bet Mass Effect 2 may outshine both DAO and ME1.

I like Sci-Fi over fantasy, but i really can't say. What i do know is that i should replay ME few times to have saves ready for the sequel, but i can't stop playing Dragon Age. Damn you and your great games BioWare!

I enjoy all BioWare games. I can really say I like either over the other. I have spent many hours with all of them.

Hmm, over all I would have to say DAO. I prefer the ME combat slightly (I might be in the minority with that), but prefer the DAO in most other aspects.

I've only completed ME once, and I still haven't completed DAO, but I have already spent twice as long playing DAO.

I've been on my 5th for awhile now, that that it really matters anymore. I stopped playing to go play Unreal Tournament 3 and KoTOR.

Dragon Age Origins is way better than the utter trash that is Mass Effect. Mass Effect was way too short could be completed in like 12 hours had a horribly boring story, boring characters, boring side quests, etc. It was a chore to play! I hope Mass Effect 2 is much better than part 1.

I go for Dragon Age Origins way way ahead of Mass Effect

I prefer DA:O (MA was fantastic too though). Here is non-exhaustive shortlist of why:

1. Toolset - 'nuff said.
2. Overhead tactical view combat. Big plus.
3. I opine that DA:O companions > MA companions from a depth of character standpoint.
4. While I know MA2 won't have it, MA1's m.a.k.o missions were, well, a bit 'meh'.
5. DA:O combat system > (more robust) MA combat system. Much larger variety in DA:O from both a single character and team synergy standpoint.

All that being said, I do subscribe to the idea that while both are RPGs, they both serve different purposes. MA is more action oriented, DA:O is more traditional. This is a good thing since spice and flavor in a genre = win in my books.

Putting all this aside, I totally loved Kotor. Kotor: TOR can't get here soon enough.

Dragon Age is clearly the superior game.

Combat in Mass Effect was broken at higher levels. Or even lower levels with the right builds.

Exploration was nonsensical and extremely boring.

Side missions were extremely generic.

Inta-squad interaction quite limited.

Dragon Age does all this better and has a toolset to boot. I suspect and hope ME2 will be superior to either though.

Of the two, I couldn't choose a favorite. It was like reading two books in two different genres. I enjoyed Mass Effect immensely. First rpg I actually completed without burning out since BG2. Same with DA:O. On my third play now. Two just amazing games, and probably the best entertainment value for the buck I've gotten.

But it's all a matter of opinion anyway. No facts on which is better.

I'll probably play DA:O regularly, especially if more DLC and actual player mader modules come out, until Mass Effect 2 is released.

I have to give it to Mass Effect. Even tho im on second playthrough of DA:O, I really liked Mass Effect and its worlds (the main story quest ones, the ice planet I loved alot.) I did find the story in Mass Effect to be a bit better then in DA:O though Dragon age had a good story, I just didnt find it as intresting as Mass Effects storyline (since mass effect had only one villian and not making the real threat more of a side villian.). what made me get pissed at the end of Dragon Age was the fact that you can continue to play, but can only go to dlc zones (I never beat the proving...) tho Mass Effect didnt alow you to either, it atleast let you replay the game with all your items.

Mass Effect 9.4/10
Dragon Age: Origins 9.1/10

I was disappointed a bit by Mass Effect. Perhaps I was just overexcited to finally play it when it was released on the PC. The main questline flowed nicely, I liked the dialogue wheel system, and the game was pretty, but... those uncharted worlds are insultingly boring and repetitive. And if you don't do at least a couple, the game ends very quickly. I found the companions to be a bore too. I tried playing through ME a second time during the month leading to DAO's release and I just couldn't do it.

So yeah, DAO wins for me.

I like sci-fi so I prefer Mass Effect even though it's an inferior RPG. Still Dragon Age has consumed more of my time than ME ever did.

I have yet to play Mass Effect (don't like guns/sci-fi) but I've heard so many good things about it here that I may have to give it a try.

Hmm, as far as story and characters Mass Effect was much better hands down. Gameplay and content Dragon Age wins out on that one.

Could not possibly choose one of the the other at this point...I think, for me in the long run, it will come down to how all three parts of Mass Effect come together and what kinds of DLC and continuations we get for Dragon Age ... because the only thing I know about BOTH of these games right now is that I want MORE....
