DA:O's been fun, though.

There was basically one main storyline that felt rushed ( ignore all the side stuff, and just do the main quest, I finished it in under a day, and it honestly was not that special except for the bits with Saren, if we didn't need to level up Shepard, you could literally take out pretty much everything in between, and it wouldn't matter to the storyline. Try doing that with Dragon Age and it doesn't work so well ), and then a handful of other minor stuff smothered by the weight of the idiotic planet landing sequences that were no different from each other.
None of the characters are memorable, the Krogar ( Kroxigar? Whatever ) was amusing, and I kind of remember him, but he was the only one, most of the others are easily forgettable, not really all that interesting, and honestly bothered me more then made me care about them ( No I don't care about your headaches, and why are you wanting to get into the sack the second I said hello to you blue chick and human chick? )
I tend to be OCD about doing everything in my games, and I burned out each time I tried getting to the end of ME, due to the just totally un-fun planet gathering feature, and really felt let down by the lack of actual story/immersion/world I normally get from Bioware games. The ending was good, but well, the rest just didn't feel like all that much fun, and the gameplay just didn't feel right to me. I mean, it just didn't feel like a full game at all, especially not compared to stuff like Dragon Age, KotOR1, or BG.

DAO is only good enough the first time you play through it. Once the novelty wears off (and it does so pretty quickly) the game has really nothing to remember the game by. DAO will only prove a station of a game to first time RPGes and younger audiences only because in reality its really not that polished from the "inside".

But Dragon Age's got a better story, better dialogues, a much better setting (medieval fantasy > scifi future), and a gameplay style that suits my tastes a lot more than Mass Effect's semi-fps approach.

I doubt that I will return to DAO as many times as I did ME (10 times), and once ME2 is out I probably won't revisit DAO for years. There are just too many fantasy games, and I'm completely burned out on elves and dragons despite this being a very good game. Science fiction just appeals to me more, and Mass Effect is a brilliant science fiction game.
I have a similar problem with novels. I tend to remember even the most minor details, so once I have all permutations of the story in my head, I can no longer derive any enjoyment from repetition until it is no longer fresh in my mind. It usually takes several years for me to return to a favorite novel or game. ME is unique for me in that regard; I am just irrationally drawn to it for reasons I am still somewhat unaware of.

Would not mind playing an RPG that has both futuristic/ancient elements in it though.. as weird as I might be... but hehe that is me... very limited and in general personal exotic taste in what I am going to waste a hell of alot of time on as it is.

I think probably it all comes down to: if you like sci-fi more, you like Mass Effect more. If you like medieval settings more, you like Dragon Age more.
Exactly!
I prefer sci-fi over fantasy,so I am much more interested in the Mass effect universe.
It doesn't change the fact that both game are flawed and in need of improvement.Mass effect suffered from a sidequest standpoint, especially the dreaded uncharted worlds.
The game didn't have enough bosses...
Characters weren't as interesting and dialogue was ok at best.I think the setting is more intereresting than the incredibly generic Dragon age world.Although Mass effect suffered somewhat from being a generic and sterile sci-fi world as well.
Combat was hit and miss, but Mass effect 2 will vastly improve upon the original.
Quite frankly,Mass effect 2 should easily blow out of the water ME and DA:O.It remain to be seen how Bioware can improve upon Dragon age, since there's definitively a lot of hidden potential with the tools in place(just as I knew Mass effect had a ton of potential).

DA:O is something else though, and rivals The Witcher for the place as my favorite RPG of this generation. Although I still abhor the setting and loathe any fantasy with elves and such, it was a remarkable experience with the depth that Mass Effect lacks.
I postulate that ME2 might be a better experience, but i doubt that it will be a better RPG. To summarize: I like DA:O more than ME.

But as it stands, I'm still a bigger fan of Fantasy games, so Dragon Age was just a must have, one I don't regret in any-way.

There is much about ME i prefer. It really did feel like you were playing a movie, and i loved the voice over with the Sheppard.
However, because of the dull planet explorations, and zero variations in the armor and weapons, i have to give a slight edge to Dragon Age overall.
Now when ME2 comes out it may be a different ballgame.
My one issue is whether to get ME2 on PC or 360??????

Especially as the main story is concerned. ME has the best presentation ever of a fantastic story. I also like the companions more, and the romances feel better integrated. The decisions in dialogue make an actual difference. You get to make real decisions that have an influence on characters and story (could still always have more of course). The (amazingly good) voiced PC adds so much to the atmosphere. The scenario is new, refreshing and well implemented. The sidequests get a little repetitve, sure, but at least most of them have a proper introduction / explanation as well as a conclusion in form of a cutscene, while in DA all we get is a text box on a board.

This is indeed one of the major + of mass effect when compared to DAO. The characters actually do talk normally, they move properly and realistically and behave how they should when they converse. One who has not played Mass Effect cannot even beggin to imagine the superiority of the character interaction on both suggestive and visual level.
