 Does anyone have this? I really like the gun's look and name and I want to like it but it feels really weak at III. Is it good at X and with Turian Soldier or should I not bother with this AR?

I have it at X but it's still not that good and you'd be better off using a different Assault Rifle.

Its OK if you want 160%+ CD, just like Avenger and Mattock but you can't count on it to be your main source of damage.

Spaming marksman with Turian Soldier and Phaeston X should be interesting tough.

spamming GSMG, with markmens is pretty Lulzy with extend thermal mag, and that heatsink thing takes the cake over GPR with markmen

Revenant X = best damn gun in the game! Carnifex is nice but the Revenant is more fun.

Hang on, the Avenger at X will give almost all classes a 200% cooldown, especially Turians.

Agreed with the Phaeston being bad part though. I've found that the only assault rifles worth using are the Vindicator and Mattock. Avenger if you want a light weapon, and Striker if you've got some room to work with. I can't decide which, but the Geth Rifle and the Phaeston are probably the worst assault rifles in the game.

It's not going to feel much more powerful at X because the damage increase when going from I to X just isn't all that substantial, for any gun. You're looking at about a 20% difference (15% if comparing to III).

But if you're just playing Silver, then Phaeston X is plenty useful. Don't bring it to Gold though - use Mattock if you want an assault rifle with firepower.

Phaeston is the best all-round fully automatic assault rifle that you can get at X. The GPR is arguably better if you're playing a Geth, and the Revenant does better damage overall but requires stability/Turians to properly combat recoil, and is also questionably heavy for its output.

Mattock is superior if you want a mid-weight rifle, and are tolerating of burst fire weapons; if you're looking for maximum damage on an AR, the Saber beats them all for raw damage power, but has massive weight; if you're interested in that weight category already, the Falcon and the Striker are also things to consider which do moderate damage, but are excellent for their area damage and stagger potential.

I love both the vindicator and the mattock but I can't get them past III.  And I have bought so many Bioware points that my credit card company locked my card.  :/

I have it at VII and I use it occasionally. I like the feel and function of the gun, though it could use a bit more punch. Slap on barrel and piercing mods, aim for the face, and you'll probably do ok on silver, I doubt it on gold (which I have little intention to play, too stressful!).

There's no non-condescending way to say this, so:

Go play the game. You can have a Level X of every weapon and a level 20 of every class, and you will still be awful with them unless you're actually playing.

You can get the objective opinions on anyone regarding a weapon and their merits, but the thing that makes them good (or bad) is your ability to know how and when to use them for different situations.

Grab a weapon, any weapon, that you think is cool, play with it. If you like it, use it. If you don't like it, use something else.

Are you serious...? If so you're really unlucky. After I unlocked the Asari Justicar and wanted to start using those two rifles (because of the AR weight bonus the Justicar has) it only took me 3-5 hours of Geth/FB White farming to get them from rank III/IV to X purchasing only Veteran Packs. I also got a bunch of other weapons to X from doing that, like the Scimitar, Disciple, Phalanx, Eviscerator, Phaeston, Raptor, Incisor and the Locust. Some of those were already at around rank V though.

I never touch it anymore now that I have the Saber and Mattock X though.

It's my go to gun on my Turian Sentinel. I use AP and damage mods on it. The vindicator and mattock are also nice as well at X. All this on gold by the way.

Interesting posts here. The phaeston is my go-to AR on my human soldier and I have a mattock IX. It's, hands down the best full auto AR in the game (in MP). It may not do the damage of a revenant but it's close and I like to be able to actually hit my target when firing. That coupled with the lower weight means I can spend more time in adrenaline rush which means more time with a 65% damage bonus and more time with a defensive bonus so I can keep shooting longer before going back to cover. Slap an extended barrel, AP mod along with an ammo mod and things die.
