Pyro turret is viable too.
I prefer shield turret, but Pyro is viable.

As far as I can tell, re-casting the turret resets the ICD for shield repairing, so unless you really really need the extra shielding, you can get by with Rank 5 for healing turret, (or 3 if you want to drop the points elsewhere), and just not take rank 6 or evolve it for the flame turret.

It's nice but its rough to use when the teams running all over the map nowhere near each other. Can still launch one in someones direction and hope it helps tho, and use it for yourself.

So much this. You're really better off making your turret a self-firing gun and chucking it in the direction of crowds.

My Geth Engineer has turret outfitted to restore shields as its primary function. The last evolution I took flamethrower. I figured that if enemies are overwhelming your guarded position to the point where they're close enough to get flamethrown, then restoring shields means squat.

At least this way, it can be used as a fiery distraction while you flee and it can possibly take out those enemies that would be chasing after you/shooting you while it's obfuscating your exit point.

Please, make that part where it says about Restoring Shields Red, Bold and 72-sized font. Seriously, it was like a second Christmas when i finally met a geth using it for shields. Looks like eyes of most -random- geth are so damaged by Hunter mode that they can't read about shields.
Or maybe just scores are so important that few points are much better than working in team?

Holding position? Screw it. Throw the turret away to get some prizzze.

So, what you're saying is that if your geth engineer hasn't specced his turret to carry his team of bads who are apparently constantly having their shields shot off, he or she is doing it wrong?

That's exactly what he's saying.

Healing turrets are nice, but offensive turrets are viable as well. There isn't just one way to play with this class.

I can understand the allure of a healing turret (in fact, I use a healing turret quite often in War for Cybertron), do keep in mind that you have to be NEAR the turret for it to work, meaning you'll most likely end up hunkered down in one spot, which usually ends up being bad, especially against reapers. I figure that most people realize that teams usually run around the map to accomplish the mission and find that a flamethrower in a choke point is better than four sitting ducks.

The healing is nice, but it is situational at best.

Healing doesn't fit my playstyle. I'm not the type to hunker down and since I only play silver offensive evolutions are great

+1 here. To me it's the best of both worlds.
It can be a damage dealing decoy when no one's in trouble and your best friend when they are.

This unit is designed for combat. It is not your personal shield-bot.

Seriously, my turret is specced for shield restoration, and I tend to put it near people who are getting objectives, inside hack zones, or I drop it on fallen teammates before reviving them so they'll get shields almost immediately.

But often, I also use it as a distraction or additional damage, and I decide which purpose to deploy the turret for when I deploy it. It may not always align with other team members' goals, but I am not telepathic, nor am I present primarily to play in a style that others may want to define for me.

It's also quite effective if you split the difference. Take the damage/shields increase at rank 4, and your turret has 1700 in shields and does 277 damage a shot. Take the shield restore upgrade at rank 5, and now your turret restores 525 shields over an 11-meter radius. I really don't think there's a bad build for the turret, unless you don't use it how you build it--i.e., spec it purely for shield restore and throw it far, far away.

actually the flamethrower has a pretty great range and whenever you drop the turret it will immediately heal your shield so imo it's better to have flamethrower

Not unlocked GE yet...but from sounds of it, that turret is considerably better than the QE one....

There's really no point when you play in a pug, nobody sticks around it for it to help. Only useful for yourself and on hacking objectives.

lol all you have to do is throw it on top of a roof where the team is at or somewhere no enemies will see it. It restores shields through walls.

It's great with flame thrower. Toss it behind a prime and it agro's them as well as a SI's decoy. On top of that, the flame does pretty decent damage to the Prime's armor...

meh, i find i am squishy enough that it helps save me quite often itself if im holding a position or if i moved to a new one and took a stray bullet along the way.

Their character, their choice. Don't like it, too bad. Get your own Geth Engi.

I throw it at stuff that is irritating, like banshees, reavers, phantoms, behind guardians, pyros and hunters. If the team is good, defensive would probably be more useful, but in most games being able to distract heavy hitters and things that will creep up on an kill me due to an exposed flank because that ****** didn't stay in position... you know the one.

I really don't think it's even practical as an offensive weapon unless you upgrade it as a flamethrower and chuck it into a crowd. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention, but I was playing with a Geth Engineer whose turret was thrown down beside me, and I swear it has a rate of fire of 1 shot per 10 seconds.

just because they dont do it your way they are doing it wrong. heck i dont even need it to fully restore my shields. i only have 375 in hunter which are basically fully restored with the basic perk and alot of the time im hit by a single strong attack that just takes all my shields and the shield gates all i use
