So as the title may suggest I have a new idea and given how responsive this community is I thought I would place this here to see how people would respond. Well enough intro here we go.

So with ME3 or any game with day 1 DLC there is controversy of course but on the flip side DLC released too late in the game cycle runs into the alternate problem of not being able to recapture intrest because a player has the narritive locked of what has happened in the story into their head. (Ex. ME2 DLC except Arrival) So instead of developers trying to expand the story that a consumer has purchaced after the fact why not blend episodic storytelling (such as what was done with Half Life 2) and DLC.

The reason that I feel this is a great compromise is that it allows the dev to expand on the story in the game while not disrupting the flow of the story by adding characters (which often feel tacked on). This while at the same time not raising controversy about day one DLC or risking people not wanting to buy the DLC because it would disrupt the narritive or because the game has lost steam with their core audience.

I think basically that DLC should in many cases be contained to what would be consitered Expansion Packs such as existed back in the days Starcraft and PC gaming. I mean hell they are already priced about the same.

Anywho thoughts??

Personally, the DLC packages don't interrupt my narrative at all anyway. I almost always start an entirely new game when a DLC is purchased.

As far as Day 1 DLC... the only controversy there is that people simply don't understand that the content would NOT exist as part of the original game. The ONLY reason that content even exists is to produce additional revenue and take advantage of the initial sales of the game. Take away the extra revenue by including that content in the game, and you also take away any incentive to actually produce that extra content.
