SO. Based on what we have established: DJ and his assertion that the ad is morally and factually wrong, is incorrect. And that your assertion of the ad is, correct.

*sighs*; yes both statements are factually correct, that does not change the fact they left out the reason for the fan reaction, it's still a lie by omission, cut it whichever way you want.

I think at this point DJ is in the right.

Just my opinion.

I agree.  It's the juxtaposition of the two quotes which appears to give it a positive spin.  It's shameful and just plain wrong.

I still want to see a picture of this. In a mailbox. :D

PM me your e-mail and I'll send you a copy of the e-mail I got from EA.

Even after the sitting through that ending...I have never been closer to raging in these forums as when I just saw that picture.

I don't think I have ever seen such an amazing lie of omission in my life. EA/Bioware, that is seriously disgusting.

It does prove you are "listening" though.  Too bad you are only listening to what you want to hear. =/

As a side note, the ad destroys your deluded self-imposed concept of a "vocal minority" having an issue with the ending.

More importantly, I really can't think of a way to give a larger middle finger to people who could have been your biggest champions if you had handled the situation with any form of honesty and integrity (not the artistic kind). Even just taking a picture of yourselves giving us the bird and posting it on the net would have been less disrespectful than that misleading and underhanded graphic.

Call me "entitled" all you want. At least I can sleep soundly at night knowing I don't use those kind of ethics in my personal or professional life.

Man, I can picture the creator of that image giggling like a school girl after submitting it to be distributed.

'Provoked'? Really? They chose a word with such a negative connotation and attempted to make it into a positive selling point? Well, points for the attempt I guess.

Oh god! Did they hire Paul Christoforo for their post-release marketing??

Seriously though, that's just disgusting practice.

Wait, EA using unethical means of distorting truth to make money? I am shocked! shocked!

Bioware, thank god you've got artistic integrity, cause that's the only place you've got it left. This has stripped you of it everywhere else.

'provoked a bigger fan reaction', 'potentially devastating and deadly consequences from each decision'

This is hilarious. Am I the only one finding the funny side to this? But then again, I'm not a retaker (nor a pro-ender)

No, it's pretty funny in a "Inferno" type of way.

Marketing is evil.

Legion of upset fans = provoked a bigger fan reaction

Yes, upset, annoyed, frustrated, angry, and sad are all fan reactions. Well done.

Not sure why there is a debate here or how some people are having trouble understanding this. It is a lie by omission. The entire ad spins something that was overwhelmingly negative into a positive. They cherry picked a quote from EW that could go either way and slapped that 75 perfect score garbage on it which spins the ad positively. It IS a lie by omission because they are artificially substituting the context of the quote with false positive spin; it is not ethically wrong but it is morally wrong in western culture and to any person that is moderately sane.

Not ethically wrong? :o

LMAO

You're really funny. Maybe I'll use this strategy when I open a bakery. :police:

Not sure if serious.  No it isn't ethically wrong because they aren't outright lying, but they are telling a mistruth which makes it morally wrong.  Businesses do this all the time, albeit not to this extent.  I don't like it any more than you do, I'm just telling you what the reality is.

I wonder if Bioware realizes that contextomy is illegal in the EU.... Since this product is sold all over Europe, they would have to abide by the EU's laws as well.
