I Bid You All Adieu

To whomever broke into my house - if you are reading this - I have added a rather nasty Rottweiler to my family. So, please come again. His name is Casper and once he gets a hold of you he doesn't let go until whatever he bit is a bloody pulp. Then again, blood just makes him madder.

One tip about Casper, though... be sure to feed him occasionally or he will sharpen his incisors on your furniture legs or on other members of the family who may taste better than wood to him. In other words, never turn your back on a Rottweiler.
Adiós muchacho and may you have better fortune in the days to come!

On a more serious note, having lost my own work a few times (but nothing to this scale) I can just about guess at how awful you must feel. Not to mention knowing your place of living has been invaded as well, there's something unsettling about that experience... Good luck wherever you may roam, and thanks for all the hard work you've put in. Neither NWN Enhanced nor Q1.4 would've existed without you.

This should be a note to all of us to try and store the most important of our files and work as much as possible on internet space or burn DVD's and give to family and friends for safekeeping.
Hope you get over the initial pain of this. There is a life after it...NWN or no NWN...
Hope they catch the ******....don't want to get up your hopes...but there is actually a miniscule chance of you getting it back...lets all hope...

Ouch. Ouchouchouch.
I *like* you, damnit. <and all your cool stuff>
Heh.
Rotties are fun. Prefer Old English Mastiffs, myself.

My favorite used to slam-dance with me. If he knocked me down (I'm a big man), he could lick my face. If he didn't... he tried until he succeeded. :-) How I miss him. Named him Grendel, of course...220 lbs of ferocious teddy bear <your rambling, old man>
Heh. Don't want to face it.
Hope you still visit.
Hope we draw you back in.
Hope you use Dropbox... ;-P <saved the wizard's bacon a couple times>
And remember, Karma.
You *don't* want her mad at ya.
<...and weeps>

Like Rolo I hope you will still visit and that we can draw you back in.
I know how time consuming creating custom content is and the thought of losing all that hard work ...
You must be very frustrated to say the least.

BTW - a dog is not a good defense. One shotgun blast reduces any dog to a bloody heap. The best thing you can do is to get a good alarm system, or a spy cam.
Especially the spy cam is very, very effective, cheap, and legal (as long as it is inside your house).

I respectfully disagree on one point, WS ;-) A dog is not only a self-guided missile, but an alarm system and fun-loving brother-in-arms all rolled into one joyful, slobbering package (all my dogs tend to slobber :-P ).
You have a point about the shotgun, and the camera and ever-vigilant security systems. But if you're facing a shotgun, you've got a whole new level of problem. There are few deterrents against casual burglary better than a massive, alert head staring at you through a window while the owner is away or snoozing in his favorite easy chair.
And I just love dogs. Heh. And cats. Go figure.
Oddly, I've only befriended one bird <befriended? you over-state the matter, wizard>
Yeah, well. Birds are *flighty*. <ya think?>
Oh, hush. Just wish you could fetch my slippers <never gonna happen, old man>
(edit: Though I've sailed most of the seven seas, I have lived most of my life in Oakland, CA, so I am not speaking without experience. And shotguns *do* worry me)
<...for a long nap>

Is Pstemarie in a country where firearms are difficult to obtain? In a crowded, populated area?
In that case, perhaps a dog would be appropriate - though a spy cam would be cheaper and most effective at apprehending the perp - which the dog is not going to be able to do, normally. Perhaps both of them for optimal deterrence and evidence gathering?

A noisy dog makes a poor protector. if they are trained properly, as we do here, the only sound the burglar will hear is the sound of his windpipe being crushed. A gun should never enter the equation. It's basic training for any animals used in the military, BTW.WebShaman wrote...
Well, I don't have any stats on Dogs vs Cams, but in the Dogs vs Shotguns, the Shotguns always win...obviously, one using a Shotgun is not worried about noise - so the noisy dog is not a real problem.
First thing is to remove 2 items. First, any chain or collar that may cause enough noise to alert an intruder, and secondly, any of those ridiculous signs that annouce that the property is protected by guard dog. Only signmakers benefit from those.
Cams have no personality. I'd stick with the Rott and the drool.

Sorry to hear that there are Griefers in RL environs that also imtend to ruin play. May the OP find the zeal for playing again, even if the Techie part is too painful to explore for now.

If they bring a gun, they are there for a totally different kind of business, and it's probably personal.

Except that such an animal is very, very expensive. Such training is not cheap (I work in Security, and I know how much such animals cost, even for a Security company). A spy-cam is much cheaper, and in the case of laws (depending on where one lives, countries differ in regards to laws), a spy-cam will prevent one from being liable for injuries/deaths here.
Nobody in for a casual robbery is going to bring a gun, and they won't bother with a house with a dog.
If they bring a gun, they are there for a totally different kind of business, and it's probably personal.
This is sadly inaccurate - but really depends on what country one generally lives in, I believe. Many "casual criminals" tend to carry weapons, even for such things like "casual robbery" (whatever that is). After all, one doesn't know if one is going to "surprise" the residents in their sleep, etc...

I left against my will, just like you, and that's the worse part of the story. Now, from the little I learned from life, experience's got no use in the past, but could grow big in the future... sometimes.
I'm not worried for you, people with talent are blessed enough already.
Like Hip would say, only better.
'love you all. Really do. Even if I'm so ashamed to admit it I could kill myself before saying it.
So, don't count on it. Ever.
Je vous embrasse quand même...
Damn!
