^ Now THAT is more like it!

Actually, being able to start fresh may just get those creative juices flowing again.

Sorry to hear that :(. Perhaps there might be a future chance you'd come back. Bringing a whole new set of content for us to enjoy :)?

Well, after suffering the most heinous deed imagineable - the theft of my computer, along with numerous other electronic equipment - I have decided to hang it up. Essentially nothing is left of the work I have done / planned to do except for what was uploaded to Q and the Vault.

I'm very sorry to hear this, Paul. That your loss is a disaster for the NWN community is a given. The depth of the personal loss, though, is what really makes this a tragedy. It's not just a theft of stuff, but of the part of your life that went into creating that content. I can't imagine how I'd feel if my ongoing mod and writing work were lost in this way. It's got me thinking of looking into an off-site backup option, just in case.

This is a tragic loss to our entire community. I for one want to thank you with all my heart for all you've contributed to this community.

Please consider visiting us from time to time. Not only will it be nice to see you, it will give us a chance to try to lure you back in with our sirens call.

Sorry to hear about this loss, Pstemarie. People who deprive one of simple property that one has purchased are bad enough, but stealing one's projects, art, programming, and other results of creative effort are really stealing more. They are taking chunks of life, or at least what was made with life's energy, and that energy can never be recovered. I'm not generally an advocate of physical solutions to RL social problems, but I'm also aware that most activity of this nature wouldn't happen if the person doing it thought he would come to harm as a direct result. In short, if someone again tries to give you a bad day, I hope your dog has a good day...

Anyway, I echo others who hope that the time off you are taking from NWN is temporary and that you stick around these parts, even if you don't plan to build again.

Yeah, I have a scheme where I backup locally to a somewhat remote external drive on my home wireless network and that drive is hidden away from human scum, though that isn't much protection from fires, flooding, etc. There are several cloud-based services that are "free" and have a high enough storage limit to be useful. It's tempting to give something like ADrive a try. And, the ability to get to my files when travelling without worrying if I have copied everything over to a USB key or whatever would be very useful.

I recommend anyone do what I do for backups - everyday, make a compressed copy of anything you are working on, burn it to a DVD or put it on a USB/flash memory stick - and leave it at your parents house, or your best friends' house each time you visit them. That way, assuming you visit often, you'd never be at a loss for more than a couple weeks work even if a fire or theft occured. This does nothing to protect the computer (mine is old and not worth carrying out of the house by a thief) but at least it would prevent miscreants from stealing the art on the drives. As it is, I have archives going back ten years. This is a habit that is good to cultivate - best wishes to all.

Be well. Game on!

I have lost a hard drive, I know EXACTLY how you feel, truly...

However, I backed up most of my work on a DVD (indeed quite a few DVDs), also I had my work on a couple flash drives, both which died on me, ARGGHHH!!!

But to lose all your work, man, that would make me wanna quit too!

I'm sorry that you didn't like upload your stuff online for later retrieval or something.. :(

Remember in the future BACKUP is VERY important, and everyone should remember that...

I had to learn when I lost my hard drive, which cost me about 4 months worth of very hard work..

Anyway, hope you return, may your memories of your time in nwn bring you back...

My apologies...
