If you are in the US or Canada, especially, I recommend contacting the BBB, advertising bureau, consumer ombudsman…

Deceptive advertising is deceptive advertising is deceptive advertising. I love it how some of our regulars show their complete lack of integrity trying to defend this move.

You know what increases my respect for your argument? Showing that you can handle it in some manner resembling objectivity.

This.

It blows my mind seeing customers defending the company lying to them and stonewalling them with PR talk, neglecting their consumer rights in the process, because they have some twisted notion of owing anything to the company that received their money in the first place.

You couldn't be more brainwashed if you tried.

No offense, but the FTC is meant for illegal advertising, the BBB is just an oversight committee that is a good-will type program and isn't governmental. You should be reporting it to the FTC, not the BBB.

You're right.

But if anyone does this they are nicknamed everything from "entitled" to "whiners" by ****s (nicknaming them "****s" right back should then be okay, since we are "entitled" and "whiners", yes?), just for expressing their consumer rights. Hence my pointing at brainwashing.

Doing this because of any other product is okay, but as soon as that product is manufactured by BioWare/EA it's suddenly not okay to express your consumer rights anymore.

Is it a lie? No...Is it false advertisement? Probably is...

But what is it when something is false or falsified? While I agree that lie is a strong word:

What does being mislead equate to - though it being a much nicer term? And ads always do this!

That's all fine and dandy Loop but since when has it mattered what other people think? The truth is that it actually does such as in these examples:

A person is murdered by someone in the fraternity at college and no one wants to betray their brother so they say nothing to the police.

A person makes a lie and everyone knows its a lie but they don't want to get on the bad side of their friend and so they go along with the lie.

Not speaking up because of the perception of others has always been an issue but the truth is that the FTC was designed specifically for the purposes of investigating and filing law-suit clusters against illegally advertising, trading, or operating organizations and businesses, anything severe and they report it to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Sure that sounds extreme, but as anyone in those companies can tell you, it doesn't matter how small it is at the start, small things that people get away with always become habitual or repetitive or sometimes even larger. Allowing them to get away with illegal misadvertising, falsification of statements, and manipulating their consumer base is hurtful to the company and the people working in it because they are not forced to act in a reasonable and honest way.

Sure.

The trick to make a society better, is to make it a habit to do the right thing, even when it's "just a game". Something too many people fail to understand. You don't get a decent society by letting people get away with all kinds of sh!t, that's anarchy.

It doesn't mean you should stop educating them - it's the best reason for you to continue.

Not so much anarachy as much as preferential treatment, which is how society is.

Exhibit A: a politcian speeds, gets pulled over, and gets lets go for free.

And, as I expressed, that's no reason for you to stop fighting that BS.

It's clever and it's true, whether like it or not.

EA is a business not your dear old granny, brother, sister, mother, father, friend or faithful little puppy.

It uses two true statements stripped of context to reinforce each other and produce a third very much untrue statement.

Good lord I hate marketing spin. Thankfully I have never once in my life paid for EW and now have good cause to keep things that way.

Worst thing about marketing spin is it contributes to your customers not trusting you anymore. It would be better to advertise a product, and then make people pleasantly surprised, rather than the other way around.

Best game eh?

... .... .... ...

That's certainly one way to view it, though I much prefer games that don't make me hate the entire series.

Where is that image from? Is it REALLY a marketing image produced by EA/Bioware, or is it a fan made trolling attempt?

If the former, then that is clearly unethical, misleading marketing. If the latter, then successful troll is successful.

It's real.
I know, it's hard to grasp why they so desperately want to commit corporate suicide.

Completely unrelated, but I can't wait for Assassin's Creed 3. Connor looks like such a bamf.

The point is that like the GOTY year thread has indicated, there are TONS of contenders, sadly none are a new RPG that I've yet to play, but still.

If we really wanted to be rational about which would win, the real contestants are probably going to be these.

Assassin's Creed 3
Diablo 3 which I hate with a passion but will probably win everything.
The Witcher 2 Extended for 360 and PC.
Prototype 2 (the first one was crap)
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier & Online.
The Secret World.
BioShock Infinite
Resident Evil 6
Call of Duty 9
Halo 4
Guild Wars 2
Tomb Raider (Reboot)
XCOM: Enemy Unknown (Reboot)

Far Cry 3 (I personally hate Far Cry)

If you're gonna include Witcher 2: Extended then perhaps we should count in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition? That's comin' out this summer.

lol @ the ad. It's amusing to see how low those companies are willing to sink. Better go do some digging in the mariana trench.

On the other hand, everyone buying the game because of THAT ad deserves no better...

Yes, but I really don't think it's going to reach enough popularity due to the current generation's interests.

Extended is also going to the 360 so it's a new game for them.
