Well crap. Cone on Ballistic blade + Explosion, is stupidly awesome.

So the consensus on optimization is definitely Cone - Range - Explode then, right?

Maybe. I've definetly not had any luck with them, and the fact that they are in limited supply just makes me like em elss.

The key is to remember that they have a truly massive radius and will kill just about anything on foot from Cerberus. Throw it at a large group, maybe throw one exploding blades at them to be sure, then forget they exist and walk away from the fire explosions gloriously.
Also, you can pretty safely be making deadly circuits around the map with the deadly potential of the Batarian's abilities and the protective potential of area staggers. I keep myself stocked with grenades all the time.

it's what i've been using on gold, and what i like the most. have tried various combinations for them, and this is my favorite. think i took recharge speed instead of range though.

It's almost certainly another silly bug introduced into the game because Bioware apparently has non-existent pre-release playtesting.

They don't insta kill no gold? At least not the stronger mooks like Centurians and Nemsis's.
Do they?

Indeed. There are too many people on this board declaring powers and weapons "useless on Gold" after trying them once.

Inferno Grenade + Explosive Blades + walk away gloriously without looking at explosions in the traditional manner of the Hegemony seems to kill Centurions and Nemesis on Gold for me every time.
The one problem is that it DOES NOT kill Guardians. Ever, Guardians are glitched and are immune to damage from Inferno Grenades even though they'll do "Ahhhh I'm on fire" animations. Lame, Bioware.

You know why Batarian's have two set's of eyes?
So they can put on two set's of sunglasses as they walk away from the havoc they cause.

It applies a DoT, so of course it doesn't instakill things, but properly specced Inferno Grenades will kill Assault Troopers at full health, and generally destroy the shields of higher level enemies as well. On top of that, they are very useful for hitting Phantoms when behind cover or cloaked, and also cause them to go into defensive mode rather than offensive mode (offensive mode being when they rush you, shooting their palm gun, and trying to close to melee range as fast as possible).

Err.. That's an issue. With my Spec, I work better when they try to rush me. When multiple Phantom's set up ambushes, or are hiding, that's when I get ****ed.
And, I personally don't believe dot's are a good idea on Gold. Killing enemies as fast as possible is neccsary or else you'll get overwhelmed.
But, Maybe I'll give em an other try laters.

... the reason people say they're useless is because you can use the power 3 times before you have to hit up three separate ammo buckets to recharge, except on Ghost, which has 2 grenades in the buckets on gold for some reason, which is awesome and how every map should work.

Nah, I'd rather use a GPS. I just walk straight up to Guardians, knock their shields aside casually with the ballistc blades, and blast them in the face with a charged shot. Easy peasy.
Note that you can charge the GPS as you are doing the windup animation for the Ballistic Blades, making this very quick.

I just am always making circuits around the map looking for targets, and just stop at ammo boxes along the way. I can see how it would be a problem for wussy non-Batarians who do things like cap in a corner vs Geth on Firebase White, though.... but who cares about those guys?

Figured you could since you can do that for the sentinel net... which sadly lost so much potential by being able to be caught by phantoms >.<

The problem with grenades presently is that grenade supply is shared across teams, which gimps grenade users if there is more than one per team. The resupply system otherwise is fine.

Inferno Grenades do take a while to kill but they CC the crap out of a large radius until all the flailing eventually does end in charred death. And if any class can use the CC it's everyone's favorite CQC beast.
Blade Armor on the other hand adds yet more melee damage for Gold, can save your ass in close range encounters with reflected damage (albeit situationally and without preventing instakills, which sucks). Plus they look badass.
5/3 gets you the extra melee damage and double reflected damage from the armor while still giving you SOME Inferno Grenade CC. And since they're limited quantity anyway the dif between 2 and 3 isnt all that consequential when you'd be running from ammo crate to ammo crate nonetheless. 3/5 seems less optimal because it relegates the benefits of Blade Armor to nothing more than looking cool.
I've yet to try this 5/6/3/6/6 build but I will ASAP. I've tried both 0/6/6/6/6 and 6/6/0/6/6, and I found success with both. It was a tough call between them so I'm thinking why not split the points and take both. The sixth rank of BA is kind of pointless anyway since what's another 10% DR on Gold really worth and BA can be toggled off for faster cooldowns anyway, right?
Anyway on the same page here?

Grenades are fine, which is the reason why people play soldiers instead of infiys, engys, and adepts on gold right?

Actually, I do do better. I tend to hit em with a Blade, and follow up with a Heavy melee, killing em right up.
And yes, Reave is awesome.. But mainly because of the biotic explosions it can set up, and the damage reduction it can give you. The damage it does is nice, but but it's not what makes it a good power.

I tend to avoid meleeing phantoms in favor of killing 3 at a time. Unfortunately Batarian melee strikes me as pretty inefficient.

The way Damage reduction works, is it's effectiveness goes up expontionally. 35% is much better than 25%, because it's the equivlant of having around 65-75% more shields, rather than just 50% or so. It's crazy how fast damage reduction increases your survivability.
And, I suppose I should take back what I said about dot's being uselss. I mean, I still think they are, but I also haven't played around with them enough to see them used as effectively as they could.
