why is everyone so mad? people are well aware the ending is a fiasco this changes nothing.

It is however just another disrespectful dig at the fans however. Do they really think people are stupid enough to believe the adds? if we were so simple minded as a whole they wouldent have a problem in the first place.

This is insulting, they have no clarification and seem to be saying that the massive fan reaction is due to it's perfect scores and a positive thing when it is actually a massive negative. Using the fans reaction to a bad ending in an attempt to sell more copies is despicable

Welcome to the world of marketing and it's wonderful inhabitants.

The best salesman are the one that actually talk truthfully, because people come back to that guy again and again.

While those slick MFs that try their best to fu.ck customers over, are left to fight for the scraps of new customers that still don't know about ther shady practices, until they have fu.cked him over so many times, leaving him no other option than to - you guessed it - seeing "our" salesman.

EDIT:
Speaking of honest salesmen, holy sh!t, Wasteland 2 has gained 2,5 million!

Spinning the negative fan reaction as something positive is sort of a dick move.

You mean normal PR spin? You mean that companies never do something like this? You mean that you have never seen a large company spin negative works into something positive for themselves. Call me shocked!

For what they are saying whatever, it is usually spinning marketing is doing.

There has been a time when this was the case.

But now we're living in the corporate world and marketing has become just another way of ripping you a new one. And they're certainly not fighting over scraps. They're fighting over the proceeds of customer stupidity.

Welcome to the New World Economy. Truthful buisness men only work in small companies in a local area. When you are a corporation they cannot be honest espically if it could hurt there product, the shareholders will not like it.

Unfortunately as much as I hate it, this is the life we live in now.

The best saleman is still the one being truthful.
What salesmen we *do* have today, is another matter, and I agree with your sentiments.

And here we are at the core of the issue: if people don't want to express their consumer rights just because the product is a game, thats a dangerous spiral towards a worse future for the little man in a corporate world.

Thank Cthulhu we have began to take back the industry from the criminals, indie devs starting making money for real now, through Steam and other channels, and with the funding of Wasteland 2, I believe we are seeing the start of something great, with the turning upside-down of the whole industry.

People always get the leaders they deserve, not calling a company out on bullsh!t "just because their product is a game" is certainly one way of making the little man worse off.

I called it. EA just keeps spinning all the bad fan reception. It's hilarious really. All they need to do is throw around the term controversy a bit more.

What their PR dept is doing is insulting to the fans, the very people Bioware makes money from. So they can expect plenty of lather.

As I said above, this is usual market spin. There is a lot of people complaining about the ending. This is stirring up a large reaction let's spin it to get more people talking and buying the game.

You may find it insulting, but this is Marketing, you are apart of the consumer base you bought it they want more to buy it so they give a half-truth statement and make more people interested. With this thread and everything else you are helping them with free advertisement.

Do I like it? No that is my opinion, but I know this is how it is done now. I know the company I work for does that after some issues came up with a twitter fiasco, and WoW issue.

Every single thing in the history of ever does marketing like this. Seriously. FFVII, anyone(with the CH commercials)? Halo 3(with the Believe campaign, which doesn't feature ANYTHING from the actual game)? Every single movie trailer/back of box quote? Marketing always takes crap out of context. It's how it works. Why freak out about it now?

Incorrect. (And, besides, even if that were even remotely true, it'd still be no reason to just roll over and take it.)

But you can only not take it by not buying.

This clearly isn't adressed at people who already bought but a short time strategy to draw in new customers. While I have some serious doubt about the long time success of campaigns like that, it may speed up sales for a while.

So, people still pissed over what is a brilliant advertisement move? I mean, you had to have some clue they'd do this, in the world outside of politics and war, their is no such thing as bad advertisement. This actually made me laugh when I first saw it, it's like a parody of an ad, that's when I realized it was a parody, a self parody that relies on people knowing about this ****storm to really laugh about it.

This is no different than using conservatives bashing a movie as a selling point, the old "see this movie cause your parents don't want you to" maneuver. Takes balls of steel to do this, and I applaud the cunning and insanity it took to go through with this.

Also, I looked through this thread, comparing this to the holocaust is wrong, there is no contextual way to justify this, mainly because it was not funny, therefore not worth the shock humor attempt. But using pretentious and mean replies and calling people unrealistic for being pissed off, just to justify a comparison you didn't even make, what is wrong with you?

I don't get what you're mad at. Did you expect them to make an ad saying "The worst game ever....DON'T BUY!!!"?

You guys raised a fist and couldn't let it go and they used it as a marketting tool. I honestly don't believe none of you figured that this wouldn't be somewhat of a selling point of this game.

The ending was weak, many fans called them on it. They refused the rejection of their artistic vision, they showed a lack of understanding as to why people didn't like the ending. Many fans became upset, voiced concerns started movement etc to get the attention of Bioware.

For EA/Bioware to turn around and say that all the upset fans are a selling point in their game is a way for them to USE people who are trying to voice their unhappieness with a product, for their own profit.

We are being unwillingly used to sell their product.

This does not sit well with some people. I think this is understandable.

Others don't mind being used. That's fine for them.

Why is this bad? Because they're proud of their awesome game? Nothing they're saying isn't true in the advert.

You mean the fans that are already screaming about boycotts, who have already stated that they will NEVER buy anything from BioWare or EA again, who are doing everything they can to try and get BioWare shut down as a company?

BioWare's insulting those fans?

Good.

It doesn't sit well with some people? Thats fine.

EA is allowed to use the controversity hyped up by internet fans to sell games.  As someone stated its a ballsy short term move, but i'm assuming it will work.

Think about it, a game thats riled up fans SOOO much they start huge internet petitions, charity drives and debate and about what? A Controversial ending that isn't really controversial as much as it is not what THEY wanted.

Thats just ASKING for curious sales.  Kind of like the huge public backlash against deep throat in the seventies and people HAD to see what everyone is talking about.

I'm just surprised people are surprised its happening, its not the first time or last time a company will take advantage of backlash against a consumer product and use it to sell it.

I do however think that if their advertising DOES upset or anger you...EVEN in the slightest... its probably best at this point to cut ties and move on.

DOnt get yourself worked up, this is gaming people! A luxury entertainment venue! Meant for those who seek entertainment and have fun! The moment were it becomes stressful or makes you angry... its time to cut that portion out and move on to something that doesn't.

Nothing good comes from getting worked up over something that has such a minimal impact in your life.
