Seems to be legit. Fox news would be proud.

Hah. Funny because of all the news networks... Fox is the most reliable.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

lol this

I'm not advocating Fox News... but that should tell you how bad all other news outlets are.

No. Just no. No one is worse than fox, literally nothing comes from fox that is remotely accurate. Ever.
However, I know very little about the other American news networks.

Then how can you judge Fox as the worst then?

Sample the other major American news services, and then decide.

Why? Fox couldn't be less honest.  You can't have less that zero credibility. I'm not american. Fox news is the only one bad enough that I've actually heard of it.

NBC and CNN have manipulated footage in the past and then built entire stories and arguments around that manipulated footage. Fox sets up panels so that the conservatives outnumber the liberals. They're all jack asses.

...Screw whoever decided this ad would be a good idea. I would have a few choice words for them if I ever met them face to face, however it seems that we can't say certain things on this board due to the new guidelines.

Is Bioware/EA just trolling it's former fanbase now? Do they even care that everyone essentially hates them?

It's all completely true. However, it belies the amount anger and frustration of their fanbase.

The "Fan reaction" is negative, but placed underneath their 75 perfect scores, it reads like something positive. This, is false and takes things completely out of context.
Also, we've debated many times over what the value of these scores are. None of the reviewers say anything about how good the ending is, leading us to believed they were too rushed to see it.

This is not, groundbreaking storytelling. That's a highly subjective opinion. They're using their prior reputation to make it seem like they're doing something completely new, which they don't. Our choices barely have any effect, opposed to what we were promised. Flat-out, Witcher 2 does a better job.
It's a deceptive line, unless they tell us on the basis of what merits, do they think they've done something groundbreaking. Name me one thing?

Potentially devestating concequences from each decision is really easy to misinterpret.
Again, using their now lost reputation, they made it seem as though our actions would have many different consequences. The line can still be read like that, but this has been established false. All our decisions have exactly one, maybe two consequences. The "decisions" part and the "consequences" part share no relationship with eachother. That Bioware would still put them in a single sentence, is appalling.

No lies here, just a whole heap of misinterpretations and misleading advertisement. It might not be illegal, but it's bad business practice. One, I wouldn't expect of Bioware.

Now they've not only lost their crown of storytelling, but all of their claims of "fancare" become laughable as well.

I think the word "negative" is missing between "bigger" and "fan".

Do you think Bioware is in charge of emails like this one? I'd bet they're not. Also the ad isn't misleading at all. It makes two correct statements. I've seen tons of similar ads for movies for example, "see the end everyone is talking about" doesn't say anything positive or negative.

It does when you put it together with "perfect scores!"

It's horribly misleading.

No, that's just clever juxtaposition(?). And as many have been saying, it's EA's job to handle the actual marketing. And they're doing it well here. Like how Bioware played a sly hand at PAX weekend. Announce "clarification" DLC the day before PAX, and then say they'll not talk about it at all during PAX. Anyone who tried to talk about it would be fobbed off as ignorant or one of those annoying fans who shouldn't be bothered with anyway.

And then they announce FREEEEEEEEEEEE! MP DLC, I mean, WOW, they're so generous those folks at Bioware. How can anyone hate them, geez, those complaining fans are really stupid. Bioware's giving them FREEEE! stuff and they're still complaining.

^
General view from the outside, to be sure.

So, while most devs are hiding behind the very likeable Jessica Merizan, and the only real dev interaction we're getting here is from the DA guys, by not saying anything at all the devs are just allowing the situation to deteriorate slowly. What their game is I don't know, perhaps they're still waiting for it to die out, perhaps they're just keeping their heads down and trying to work out what to do with the new DLC. But all their official statements so far have been... mildly condescending, to those fans most affected by whole situation. Whether or not that tone is justified, I don't know, but by sitting about twiddling their thumbs (metaphorically) it seems like they're just ignoring the fire alarm, hoping it's a test or just a false alarm.

*shrugs*

edit : How I got onto this tangent I'll never know.

To clarify : EA handles the marketing, this e-mail is their work, I should think (so go hate on them, as you well should anyway). But Bioware not giving people anything concrete beyond they're listening (and that great "clarification" DLC), that's their work.

It's another example of "there's no publicity like bad publicity." Works for controversial tell-all books. It will (probably) work for the movie "Bully". EA just saw a chance to harness that awesome power.

As I've said, the quote itself is completely out of context. EA is manipulating a fortuitous amalgamation of words to insinuate the opposite of what the full text of the words alluded to. It's highly dishonest because of how utterly polar the insinuation and reality are.

We've all seen movie posters and boxes do it of course but due to the unprecedented scale of the backlash EA's decision to fall back on this tactic is horribly misguided and completely counterproductive. No one who has heard of the ME3 backlash would believe that that "fan reaction" was positive. Every article written about it has firmly established that the reaction was overwhelmingly negative. So such gamers would see right through the lie and may even be mildly insulted by it.

So it becomes a transparent attempt to woo a very small group of gamers (gamers that know about Mass Effect 3, are undecided about purchasing it, and are ignorant of the backlash) that ends up pissing off the much larger group (people that were a part of the "reaction") even more.

Yes, but it is still not wrong. It is underhanded, to be expected of EA. It is borderline unethical, to be expected of EA, but not wrong.

And since when has EA marketing ever thought of the repercussions of their stupidity. Dead Space 2? Dante's Inferno? They're all about controversy, they subscribe to the belief that there is no such thing as bad publicity. And they're right. There's always another dupe around the corner.

I agree, nothing in this mail is wrong as such. However, it is yet another slap in the face of the fan base that is clearly unhappy already. I also agree that it's most likely not BW's fault and was probably sent out from EA marketing but still, it's about their game so they'll have to deal with it (they are part of EA after all).
BTW, to which group was this sent? I never got it and I usually get all the EA crap. Does anyone know?

Sound like the same crap that we were advertised before the game came out plus the sold out reviewers reviews who don't actually beat a game before they review it.

IMO there is a difference in (more or less) honestly advertising the strengths of your product and spinning a very negative situation around to put it out as an advertisement. That is especially true if on the other side, the company repeats over and over that they take the fans and their feedback seriously. I just think that is wrong.

It's just my opinion though, no need spreading it around.

What's the difference?  Bioware has kept arguing that they are not beholden to EA in any way, shape, or form.  Thus, we need to treat them as such.
