I bet your a woman. Look at my earlier post about characters that are favs of men tend to be despised by women and vice versa. Jacob is another good example. The dudes seem to universally hate him. Garrus is different. We like him as a bro but it seems less women find him appealing for obvious reasons, like the fact he's not human for one.

I am a woman. I don't like Liara. I also don't like Jacob, which is in direct opposition to your little theory about gender relations. I'm not sure why you can't just accept that people like/don't like people for reasons other than "what use are they to me" and move on without tossing around baseless generalisations inclined to inflame, but maybe we should all aspire to have such a utilitarian view of the people around us. Boy, that sounds like fun.

Indeed we should. Prefer to just get the job done and move on, personally.

I don't understand the Liara hate unless your a) a woman and/or B) an adept. If you're not an adept, her biotic abilities are just so damn useful that you take her everywhere in ME1 and long for a character with her abilities in ME2, and then jump for joy realizing you can have her almost the entire way in ME3. In truth, I didn't like her character in ME2, and in ME3 it was weird. Thought she was cute in ME1 when she was more innocent, but her usefulness as a squadmate cannot be repeated often enough.

Not really. In ME1 any class Shepard can solo the whole game on insanity without a problem. In LtoSB having an extra warp or overload would have been better then Liara especially on insanity. Then in ME3 she spends more time dead on insanity then fighting.

Also I am male and still dont like her.

I cant tell if she is stupid or broken. Honestly in ME1 the humans were mostly like udina, Ashley is worse and has such a sense of self importance its unreal. Shepard saved her life and carried her through her career, but when the other option is kaidan we all have to make sacrifices.

I liked her enough in ME1, but I she pissed me off in Horizon. For my renegade male shep I would bang Ash, then bang Miri, then bang Ash again in ME3, just use 'em as toys. About as much as they deserve.

I just disliked her intolerance. I let her die on Virmire every time. Kaidan is less intolerant and therefore less irritating although he was kind of an ass on Horizon, but I suppose it was understandable given the context.

My male Sheps romanced Liara and Kaidan (in ME3) respectively. My Fem Sheps romanced Garrus and Thane. I prefered the Garrus romance for Fem Shep.

I didn't see her as intolerant. In fact, she made several statement against intolerant humans. She's just cautious is all.

Mordin is useful as a research scientist. Most people forget that without Mordin you can't get any upgrades. Plus he's integral to the story. Therefore, he is useful. This is how I judge characters. Remember, I play as if it was me in real life there. If you're not useful, then I don't want you. You're background story is meaningless next to the realization that we're here to defeat the Reapers. Your "story" is meaningless compared to that.

Well if that's the case then you shouldn't hate Jack since she's necessary to do the biotic bubble in the suicide mission (since you don't even need Samara).  And you should hate Thane since he serves no real purpose in the narrative in ME2, and only finally serves some purpose in ME3.  He's the second most useless character in the suicide mission (you can't use him for any of the roles except escort, and his "hold the line" score is low as well).  The only one more useless is Mordin.  And again, certain squadmates' usefulness depends largely on what class the player is playing.

I prefer Kiadan to Ashley truthfully, but it was a close decision on first playthrough. I kind of like Kaidan in ME3 however. At least he had more personality than Jacob who I found kind of bland.

Not what I gathered. Of course, she compliments different play styles better. If you're a vanguard or someone who likes to charge close with a shotgun, then Tali, Liara, and even Garrus are real liabilities. I always played a distance fighter. Liara's good with croud control with her singularity, and her stasis is an excellent companion to any sniper's toolset.

Least favorite squadmate? Ashley. Ashley seemed a lot cooler than Kaidan in ME1, but they ****ered her character. Made her look like some kind of bimbo, and made her act like one as well. She did not act like a Soldier in ME3, and Kaidan was a bit more level-headed than in ME1. A lot less likely to whine. They messed up Ashley, and they seem to have fixed Kaidan up well.

Least favorite character?
Can't say for sure. Starbrat comes to mind, as does Jack and Allers. Yea, probably Starbrat.

Jacob: As soon as he said "I saw plenty of them [geth] on Eden Prime. Space it." SPACE IT?! He dare command ME?! He got the shaft every time after that in the suicide mission.

The only reason he survived one playthrough is because I went for full Paragon and wanted to see what happens if everyone survived....when he told me he knocked up some scientist...I knew I made a mistake...Shepard doesn't even get kids with the way BioWare pissed on the ending...

No she's not. Samara/Morinth will work just as well. Since Samara is more useful as a squadmate, and Jack is not, then Jack is of least importance to me. I can't think of anything in the game that's critical. I'm glad she was moderately useful at the Grissom academy, I would have gladly dropped her off there in ME2 if I had the chance.

I do really like Jack, however I disagree because I really didn't like Jacob in ME2. He seemed to improve in ME3 a little but still not so much ><

And Garrus is Awesome and very tempting to have a romance with (If I didn't Love Kaidan so much Image IPB haha) but yeah Garrus is one of the best characters in the franchise! I think it just depends on the person and what their tastes are, rather than the sex of the person.

My next paragon male shep will save Kaiden, I think. My paragons always romance Liara, and Kaiden was always a more useful squadmate to me. Besides, I'd like to see what happens if a male shep saves Kaiden.

Yeah I saved Kaidan and romanced him, but I always used him as a squademate whenever I could too! Im awfull for using my favourite character as squademates haha!

Me Garrus and Kaidan on ME3 just like old times on ME1 :)

I havent had a playthrough with kaidan on ME3 yet. with ME3 the problem with ashley was, the way they made her more attractive, it felt like the game wanted you to like her. I wasnt having any of that.

Since I'm not gay I couldn't ever go that route. However, I could use him as a bro. Ashley not that useful cause I'm usually a soldier already anyway. Not much use for two soldiers on a 3 man squad.

I am not sure that I agree. I still think she is somewhat intolerant, but I can see how you might feel that way especially after a few conversations with her.

But you don't need to recruit Samara at all.  You have to recruit Jack.  The game forces you.  Thus you should make use of what you already have, to go by your "waste not" mentality.  And she is plenty useful in combat as well.  Just make sure she uses her pistol and not the shotgun, and she's fine.  The only skill that she has that is suboptimal is Shockwave, which you don't even need to put any points in.  And she gives Warp ammo, which along with armor-piercing, is one of the best ammos in the game.  If you're playing a Sentinel, she's great for setting up combos that you can detonate.

After some conversations, I got the feeling Ashley wasn't intolerant, she's just merely "biased" or "prejudiced", but she doesn't totally hate aliens and likes many of them. She just has a "guilty until proven innocent" attitude.

I suppose so. There are so many other characters to hate, but with Ashley trying so hard not to be that character she seems the most deserving of it.

I wouldn't NOT recruit Samara.I need useful squadmates, or at least people useful to the mission, and Samara fits the bill. As far as her Warp Ammo is concerned, I just did her little mission, which she kept dying on, and took her Warp Ammo and left her at the bottom of the ship. I just used her, like she used everyone else she ever met. I even used her for sex. I met her expectations of everyone she ever met. Why would I dissapoint?

I haven't played ME3 with Ashley, but I have seen videos. I agree with you. I did not like the fact that they made the changes that they did with her. It's like they figured that if they made her more attractive and put her in tight clothes that suddenly everyone would suddenly like her. It's kind of insulting to the players of ME to think that we are sucseptable to manipulation

Reading through here, I have come to realize that trolls are powerfully attracted to threads like this. Saying that you hate a certain character that is well liked without stating a reason is just fishing for drama.

Anyways, almost all of the characters are well written. I don't really like Ashley's character after ME1, but it is just because of her paranoia and lack of trust. Jacob's character in ME2 was simple. I didn't hate him by any means, but I didn't connect with him as much as other new characters (Mordin, Thane, etc.). I don't really have a major character that I hated in ME3, Jacob would be the least favorite. The fact that he screwed over FemShep Jacob fans and managed to go off and start a family in the couple of months FemShep was being detained was garbage. As far as minor characters...

Catalyst Kid
Diana Allers

Edit: Can't believe I forgot Kai Leng.  He is right behind the Catalyst.
