Well then she's not useless now is she? That was my entire point. And if you judge people based entirely on how subjectively useful they are to you, then there are other characters that you should hate more/like less. And come on, the AI in ME2 meant that any non-Grunt sqaudmate died all the time anyway. Jack was no exception.tractrpl wrote...

But you don't need to recruit Samara at all. You have to recruit Jack. The game forces you. Thus you should make use of what you already have, to go by your "waste not" mentality. And she is plenty useful in combat as well. Just make sure she uses her pistol and not the shotgun, and she's fine. The only skill that she has that is suboptimal is Shockwave, which you don't even need to put any points in. And she gives Warp ammo, which along with armor-piercing, is one of the best ammos in the game. If you're playing a Sentinel, she's great for setting up combos that you can detonate.
I wouldn't NOT recruit Samara.I need useful squadmates, or at least people useful to the mission, and Samara fits the bill. As far as her Warp Ammo is concerned, I just did her little mission, which she kept dying on, and took her Warp Ammo and left her at the bottom of the ship. I just used her, like she used everyone else she ever met. I even used her for sex. I met her expectations of everyone she ever met. Why would I dissapoint?

If I had the choice, I would have chosen to kick her off the Normandy. Even her research only benefited her, barely. As for me, on Insanity, I usually didn't have to revive squadmates that often. It's a benefit of being a sniper (either soldier or infiltrator). I stay back, and so does my squad. They usually are better protected that way.

I haven't played ME3 with Ashley, but I have seen videos. I agree with you. I did not like the fact that they made the changes that they did with her. It's like they figured that if they made her more attractive and put her in tight clothes that suddenly everyone would suddenly like her. It's kind of insulting to the players of ME to think that we are sucseptable to manipulation
I think its EAs doing to some extent. If you look at the female characters in ME1 the vast majority have a slim athletic build, but come ME2 and the EA label on the cover and you have the introduction of pornstar bodied characters samara, miranda etc. I'm not complaining about it, but i would just like some consistency. I guess its just EAs way of fishing to a wider target audience, boobs = more money.

I hate to say it, but they're right....
I wanted to dump Liara for Miranda cause she had a hotter body and a cuter face, then I wanted to dump her again in ME3 cause Ashley was hot. In the end, I stayed loyal because IRL I don't dump my gf because a new piece of tail walked by and my gf just happened to ****** me off earlier cause she yelled at me for not taking the trash out or something, or playing video games too much...

That's kinda the reason I always take Liara. I always saw her as beautiful/pretty and not just "sexy/hot" as you might put it, and for me it seemed that she was meant to like that.
Although it still looked like they enlarged her at certain parts too, but only a little bit.
The funny thing is, that this didn't seem to work at all, among male players, Tali for example is much more popular as LI than Miranda or Ashley.

I don't begrudge EA or Bioware trying to make money or garner a wider audiance; they are businesses after all, but changing a character after they already established what she was like seems like a cop out to me. That's what new characters are for.
Also, given that some of their audience consists of heterosexual women (like me), I would really like to see more fully developed male LI options. Fem Shep got a little ignored in that regard in ME3 and we won't even discuss how badly they dropped the ball with Jacob. I dislike him almost as much as Ashley. He is just so boring.

Purgatory was a slave-trading ring disguised as a prison, and some of the things that happened there were just horrendous. Did you find Jack's "talk to" location on the Citadel? It's in the club's bathroom, where she recounts being gang-raped on the Purgatory, and killing several attackers defending herself, but it wasn't enough. They raped her anyway. And let's not forget that Cerberus was conditioning her to attack whenever she felt threatened, and building her biotic abilities up to extreme levels.Zix13 wrote...

I take it you haven't actually spoken to her, aside from the recruitment and loyalty missions, huh?
Did you ever bother to listen to her in ME3?
She isn't a serial killer, she's just angry and does whatever the hell she wants. She's killed people, but she doesn't make it a habit. She doesn't feel remorse for the people she kills (Most of the time the people she kills are scum anyway), but that doesn't automatically make her a horrible person, otherwise every single character in the entire franchise would be on the same level.
I take it you didn't talk to anyone on purgatory or watch her murder the disturbed guy on Pragia. She's a sociopath and enjoys killing people. You have a very selective memory.
As for Aresh, she actually doesn't kill him unless you egg her on. It's a simple matter of saying "Jack, he's trapped in his past. You need to move on from yours." And presto, she lets him go. Who's got the selective memory again?
I am fully aware that the purgatory was a slave trading ring. Regardless, it was filled with scumbags and the warden tells you Jack is the worst, despite having every reason to tell you she's perfectly stable. Then the other guy who was scared ****less of Jack and thought you were insane for letting her out, despite thinking you might want a few serial killers as well. Cool story about her being raped, guess that gives her an excuse to kill everyone she sees. derp. You have to talk her out of killing Aresh, she was going to do it if you said nothing. Cerberus conditioned her to enjoy killing. Once again, Aresh, not self defense.
Having a ****ty past does not give you an excuse to be a serial killer. It's hardly like she ended up in purgatory by being a nice person. She was beyond redemption when you found her on Purgatory, her actions after that are hardly redeeming, especially in me2.

I play as femshep mainly because i feel jennifer hales voice acting adds to my imersion in the game. What you say is true, i do think with her conversation options you are being pushed towards jacob in ME2. I wont say i didnt like him, but he was the opposite end of the scale from Ashley, while she expects you to like her, Jacob puts to much emphasis on you making your own mind up. A little to much for it to feel like natural conversation i think.

Which makes him annoying in a very different way than Ashley. Also, the "tough guy with daddy issues" is way overdone.

I noticed this to, Shes more....grown up. However i cant be sure that the reason for this isnt because she describes herself in the first game as little more than a child (age wise) in asari culture and they're just showing her developing as she grows up. But yeah the pudgy face went and those striking blue eyes suddenly became more apparent along with the cleavage.

Jack you're insane!
YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT CERBERUS DID TO ME. YOU BETTER NOT BLAME ME FOR BEING INSANE.
That's Jack. In essence she blames all her failings on cerberus. She's a sociopath. She'd kill someone for looking at her the wrong way. SHEP LETS GO DO PIRACY SO WE CAN KILL MUTHA****S AND LOOT THEIR CORPSES. Yea. Totally justified murder.
