Why do people hate Liara so much?

For me, she's basically the Willow Rosenberg of the Mass Effect universe: shy and socially awkward at first, with some dark edges buried deep within her insecurities, gradually becoming one of the most powerful people in the series while remaining a trusted and loyal friend to the main hero.

So true. I don't know how she can be called 'bland' after LotSB. Shy maybe, but bland? No.

i dont get the hate on jack she's a seriel killer because they trained her to be one and vega is awsome

agreed Vega IS awesome.
Jack tho... she's supposed to be a hard ass ****, and she's supposed to seem cool because she doesn't take **** from anyone and slaughters her way across the galaxy. Its an interesting message. She seems like a Space-Wolverine/X-23... we're for some reason supposed to like actual serial killers in this day and age?

I wouldn't exactly say I hate her, but THIS is the reason why I have no liking for her.

She's pretty much as "perfect" as a character can be in the Mass Effect universe. Cute, Naieve, beautiful. innocent, obsessive and virginal in the first game, hell she's even up for the idea of sharing Shepard, and will have a lesbian romance with fem shep. She's essentially every nerd's dream.

Then becomes one of the most important people in the ME universe by becoming the shadow broker, and then playing a pivitol in ME3 by being on several of the main missions.

She doesn't have any imperfections, or at least not any major issues in any of the games. Sure, Ashley can be a **** at times and she's definitely got her fair share of trust issues, but at least its SOMETHING negative about her. Liara never felt real to me, and thus came across as dull.

That's very true.. she kinda did need a flaw to counteract her otherwise 'perfect model' appearance.
I personally put it down to how much she alienates you as an LI but that's an interesting perspective.

Never been a fan of Jack. I just found her 'out of control' and 'abusive'. I respect the developers design of the character (as I do all for all the characters), but I just couldn't relate to her in any way.

Edit: Also, the catalyst was horrible. I can see why it was made into a 'ghostly' form. I guess it was the only way to prevent players from firing bullets into him.

Diana Allers.I don't having anything against Jessica Chobot personally, but it just felt like they made her into a character and put her in the game just because they could.
Emily Wong would have been better.

This! She brought nothing with her, was not interesting, did not do anything, and dissapeared into the nothing from which she came.

Edit - Didn't know
Jessica Chobot, but watched some youtube clips... I dislike her as well!

Jack. She is everything I despise in a personality with the added advantage of being a serial killer. I'm also not given a chance to kill her for it.
So ya. JACK, JACK, especially JACK and JACK.

I thought she was awesome, she was the only character I romanced in my ME2-3 playthrough and I was playing Paragon, so I found out a lot more about her and got through to her softer side - the romance scene at the end of ME2 was especially revealing, considering there was no sex involved. She's one messed up character, but that's from her upbringing, not from real choice, hence why she changes after Shepard gets her to open up and becomes a teacher in ME3. I actually think she had a lot in common with my Shepard, who was a Colonist Sole Survivor.

Anyway, back on topic, my most hated character was probably Liara. The disjointed way she talked, her tone of voice, her clingy weirdness.. she really got on my nerves, right from the start of the series. Tali also annoyed the hell out of me, but not to the same point of wanting to blow Liara out of the airlock.

EDIT: Not Earth Born, sorry, Colonist. To elaborate:
The Colonist birth place sees everyone you knew and loved taken away by slavers, the Sole Survivor sees your entire team killed. I thought those two combined created a really interesting background for a personality type, and Jack's seemed to match it quite well.

I didn't get the serial killer thing. She was a criminal and she'd caused a lot of deaths doing pretty reckless things, but serial killer? No, I didn't get that. And really, if we want to go the 'serial killer' route, how about Thane? Is the fact he's being paid to kill people really any different? The only difference there is the attitude, Thane is a professional killer, Jack is a reckless killer. Two sides of the same coin.

Hm, hmmm. Toss-up between Mordin and the characters identified in these fine people's quotes:

Kai Leng is lucky the spacekid swooped in and saved him from that honor. Seriously Leng, go back to whatever JRPG you crawled out of.

However, I must add the disclaimer that Jack's and Mordin's roles in ME3 effectively redeemed them for me (though whether that works retroactively in ME2 remains to be seen). So ... I guess that leaves you, inappropriate space ninja.

Squad: Kaidan
Kaidan always talks like you just woke him up and he wants to get back to sleep

non squad Normandy crew member: I'd like to say Traynor, but that's only because she's not Kelly Chambers and that's not fair. She was solid, but unnecessary. Has to be Allers. She took an entire room aboard the Normandy and contributed nothing. I went to her after every mission and she said nothing outside of the priority missions. She deserved Jack's room instead. She contributed less than Mess Sergeant Gardner.

Non Normandy: not sure. Aria is a good character, but I want her to suffer

No, Kaidan's the Willow of ME; he also managed to randomly change sexual orientation halfway through the series.

Allers. Much rather have even Khalisa on my ship. I'd even promise to stop punching her.

Kid. Thanks for pulling that out of my head to make me sympathize with you, Reaper God. Telegraphed.

Random crewman walking around my ship. Hi, there! *salute* Deference! Awesome! What's your name? Hey, I'm talkin' to you! Don't walk away! WHO ARE YOU?!

My issue with Kai Leng was the sword. That and he was about as stereotypical as a character of that type can get. He was just not very imaginative. Fortunately, while playing an important part, we don't see him much. I still hate Starchild and Jacob far more.

ME1 Ashley... she never survived Virmire with any of my play throughs.

ME2 Miranda too much over the top boob/butt action going on, not to mention that winning personality.

ME3 Can't really say Allers... she didnt hold my interest at all, didnt necessarily like her, but meh, didnt care enough about her to not like her. So I guess I will go with Kaidan, because I was still pissed at his attitude in ME2, and the crap he started at beginning of ME3. Wish punching him in the face on Earth at the intro had been an option. He's such a douche.

You must be a woman.

For me, starbrat is far and away my most hated character. As far as squadmates go, I'd have to say Jack is the most useless. In the cutscenes she's such a badass. As soon as you put her in your squad, though, she's totally unable to kill a fly and dies out of habit, at least on Insanity difficulty.

Funny how my favourite character in Mass Effect 2 - the Illusive Man - was turned into an empty and stupid antigonist, wasting the potential of the introduced "shades of gray" face of Cerberus, thus making him the least favourie character for me. Well, if you don't count Chobot, Vega and Kai Leng.

kai leng wasnt implemented into the story well at all. maybe i should have read the comics and the books in order to understand what the hell the point of kai leng is. but playing the game, he was no more generic then marauder shields.

i thought jacobs whole story in ME3 was totally lame. hes a merc that wants to date some girl that maybe likes him but hes happy dieing helping these people who just used him as a hired gun??? i saved everyone in ME1 and ME2, but jacob i wouldnt mind letting die in ME2 just because of his purpose in ME3.

TIM/harbinger were also cut far too short in ME3. especially harbinger. i mean how many morons does it take to leave out harbinger in ME3? aparently the same amount of people it takes to ruin a franchise.
