I honestly don't see why this is any worse than all the other advertising out there. I hate advertising in general - I hate it on billboards and at bus stops, on television (I switch channel, I support the BBC by not carping about the licence fee), in magazines (don't buy 'em), on the internet. Why? Because adverts give out a load of old guff about the best/most noteworthy bits of a product and leave me to find out about all the crappy bits/the truth by myself. Advertising is a pretty loathsome industry all round, really, with PR and marketing in general also both up there.

But how is this worse? Just because it's Mass Effect/Bioware/EA?

Edit: Also, I sincerely hope that Bioware does not go out of business. Does a better ending to their next game? Yes, please yes. Dies and never makes another game again ever because of some disappointing stuff in their last few titles and some disingenuous marketing by EA? Good God No. And some of the most extreme hyperbole on these boards seems to be trying to force them out of business.  That's some really hateful stuff there.

what made people mad is that they are spinning customer complain to advertise their game. That's very shameful and low.

I sincerely hope they go belly up in near future, but I think that people will still buy their games even if Bioware keeps treating their customers like feces. I don't care anymore, I'm just done with them. No more money from me.

Sigh. More ME3 related overreaction. "Disgusting and shameful"? Come on. Let's at least remain based partly in reality.

Wow, talk about tricking people in to buying your stuff... It's like Bioware/EA are like con-artists. Except they con people legally.

Welcome to the world of advertising. I suppose you believe your shampoo does what it claims to do.

No but I doubt my shampoo will try to spin something like, the possibility of an allegeric reaction by saying,

" some people are saying that nothing has created a greater reaction to their scalp then clean and clear shampoo"

Theirs a point where it becomes deciteful and a thinly vieled lie rather then advertising.

Both counterpoints/examples that you have chosen are governed by federal law. They are required, by law, to put any sort of heath warning labels. If they could do that, they would. Infact Camels used to do something similar to try to get kids to start smoking, until that was veto'd.

I hope that actions like this solidify people's resolve when it comes to leaving Bioware and not purchasing their games any more.

Why leave?, just don't purchase, I'm personally waiting for the free extended DLC, then I will make up my mind if I want to continue purchasing their products.

Yep that's it people don't get mad just don't buy anything at least until DCL comes out then decided if you wish to continue to boycott Bioware.

It is fitting that EA was voted worst company in America and beat out Bank of America, when EA/Bioware uses the same misleading/lying tactics that banks use...

Really? Did EA/BioWare ruin thousands of lives and unjustly take homes away from people who had kept up on their payments? PRIORITIES, PEOPLE.

Yes, they've handled this terribly, how dare they think they can just put off months of DLC production that would actually let them turn a profit for a free DLC and we'll just accept it. I mean, do they really think they can just explain something and we'll understand it better? BLASPHEMY! They shall burn for their crimes and obviously EA will shut them down for selling over 1.3 million copies and making them a metric ton of cash. How come they couldn't just take our hamfisted and stupid mulligan and leave it at Shepard being indoctrinated, because that's where the Indoctrination theory ended and we have already attempted to discredit Bioware's writers across the board for 5 minutes of dialogue at the end of an otherwise fantastic game.

Those bastards.

We do remain in reality. The email is disgusting and shameful, that's why it makes people upset.

@phaedros

He should be...he was part of the best parts of the game...
But I think it's unfair to confuse some guy who works for EA marketing who found quotes to use for an ad that had nothing to do with putting the game together with all of Bioware...
Its like someone walking into your job and screaming at you and wanting to kill you because someone who works in the mail room at a different building lied to him.

The 75 "perfect scores" have learnt me something: Never trust a corporate review. They did the same with DA2. Many gaming "journalists" gave it great scores.

If Mass Effect 3 was named: EA Space Marine or something like that: The game is worth an 8. A pretty high score. The problem with the Mass Effect name + Bioware is that they have a legacy to live up to. We have seen how great Bioware can be and how they have declined with EA. That is why many fans like me are so angry.
We care about Bioware/Mass Effect.

I would not care about EA Space marines and would not have been angry. Just stopped playing when Space Hitler started to ramble.

Are so many people really surprised by this?

BioWare is a business. They do not care about you. They care about your money and they will do whatever they can to get it.

It's that simple.

Not to mention if everyone who is angry with the ending does not buy another product from bioware another fan base will rise up who will.

I think Tim Minchin sums how fan bases work nicely here.

For those people who dont want to listen to the song heres a few lyrics..

So I trust it would go without saying
That I would feel really very sad if tomorrow you were to fall off something high
Or catch something bad

But I'm just saying
I don't think you're special
I mean... I think your special
But
You fall within a bell curve

I mean, I'm just saying I
(Think that I would)
Probably
(Have somebody else)
...
If I didn't have you someone else would do

What we need is for Bioware to break free from EA. The bioware that existed before EA would not have given us this raw-cookie-dough-infected-with-samonella of an ending. It would have been a fully baked, satisfying, golden-brown and delicious cookie of an ending that the game deserved. Baking isn't hard to do if you actually try y'know. It's as simple as popping them in the oven. I have lost where this metaphor was going. I am getting a cookie now, please excuse me.

HEY, don't insult raw cookie dough

I think EA is in charge of the marketing...except for all the direct lies pre-release from Hudson, Walters, Gamble...this spinzone ad is just another lie to add to that massive pile.

Please report it to the FTC as intentionally deceptive advertising.

Reporting the endings to the BBB? Silly. This? Legal action.
