You guys are so cute, playing right into their hands like this.

This is the controversy selling point, you make it look like your work is causing a massive spaz attack with some people, and that gets people interested in seeing just what's so bad about this thing.

Like how whenever a conservative goes on camera and ****es about a movie and than tries to forbid people from seeing it, and than the sales of said film skyrocket from curiosity and a need to defy others.

So congratulations, you guys now know how right wing parents feel when they tell people not to see that new violent film because it has sex and violence in it, and everyone goes to see it anyway.

EDIT: and fyi, many entertainers would pay to have the word of mouth effect you guys are having, remeber that old saying, there is no such thing as bad publicity, or as it's known if france, succès de scandale.

Remember that guy who lost his job cause of bad pr?
p.s. People with brains know that theres a difference between a film (2hours/$15) having sex/violence and
a game (3 days/$100-$130 Aus) having the most terrible ending to the greatest trilogy in gaming so far.
Try and troll us with BS now moron.  :D

Someone should tell Bioware that the Titanic and Hindenburg also provoked a reaction.

Yeah uh sales have dropped enormously. What you are seeing right now is an attempt to recoup losses on EA's part. Film companies do this bad films ALL THE TIME.

You know those crappy films that get released with quotes like "Explosive fun" and "Totally badass". That's essentially what EA is doing here. They lost sales by the thousands and are trying to use the best quotes they have to save sales. They will fail unfortunately as anyone who is interested in Mass Effect now knows about this ****storm.

lets be honest, mass effect 3 looking back is a travesty of a game, they seemed more interested in multiplayer/dlc/mobile apps rather than actually creating everything they said they would pre-release.

To everyone saying that "All publicity is good publicity": this principle ONLY applies to brands that are relatively unknown to help spread the information on the brand at little to no cost. However, if a company has already spent considerable sums in advertising a product, and if the brand name is already quite recognizable, then bad PR. can be quite damaging to the brand. :-/

It's done exactly what the quote says.

Also if you hate BW so much, then gtfo of their forums. This is a ME3 story forum, not "tell us realllly how much you hate us."

a bigger fan reaction... that's one way to put it.

People are chasing you with pitchforks and torches and you're still claiming to be wildly popular due to the attention you're getting. Pathetic, truly. Adding another insult to injury... they really don't give a f*ck about us, do they. "We're listening" ... yeah, so I see.

This apparently comes as news to you, but lying in advertisements (including lies of omission and removing context to alter the meaning of a statement) is explicitly not allowed.

I'd say I hope you don't work in advertising, but it's frankly pretty clear that you don't.

Like I said in the other thread, I love these threads exposing those of our regulars who have no integrity.

Not sure if someone posted this already but there is another Forbes article.

http://www.forbes.co...o-game-history/

I find this ad repugnant, insulting, and distasteful. Combined with the atrocious ending, the "Buy more DLC!" ad at the end of the game, and the insincere PR talk that we've been inundated with, I'm about ready to throw in the towel.

Just when I think my opinion of Bioware/EA has hit its lowest point, they bring it down further. Wow.

@superduper

They did not quote a fan...& yeah if you go & read where many quotes that don't seem right come from they are misquoted.
But the quote is true...and you "rage because you CARE"
They are trying to do right by the extended cut ...it's free...thats all
Most ads are laughable anyway....

this is just a disgusting outrage. I mean seriously. How far can this company go? Have you ever been pissed on by a vendor of goods you pay for more?

Well I guess the speculation part is over. If this doesn't illustrate very clearly that they basically just don't give a **** about their fans then what?

I was really about to calm fown from all the ending rage because I enjoyed MP a bit and time mends. But this really is the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Get off the coke in your friggin' ivory tower bioware. Yeah ban this account, I just don't give two ****s anymore...

Last money your joint has ever seen from me that's for sure.

You are assuming they agree with your opinion of the ending. They don't, have stated they don't, have explicitly made it clear they won't be changing it.

Why wouldn't they use this? If I was a part of business marketing I would, because it's is one of the biggest controversies. People are mad, but there are just as many annoyed with the people who are mad. The misuse of the A, B, C quote is just as popular as the misuse of "entitlement."

It's a controversy and they're capitalizing. It's not deceptive. They don't say "everyone loves this game."

After reading through all the statements that have been given by Bioware staff in response to the fan outcry over the ending, it is my personal opinion that Bioware as a company has to die. Take this post as you will, this is merely my opinion, I'm certain there are people out there that think Bioware can be redeemed later on in future games, but Bioware has gotten to a point where they're indirectly insulting the fans. Directly confronting us would be paramount to financial suicide so they've decided to hide the insults behind massive amounts of PR double talk thinking we won't find it.

Artistic integrity, let's be honest, this is a defensive word, its only purpose was to attempt  to quell the uproar by tryin to validate the endings as they were. Their error was assuming people didn't know any better. Saying the ending was artistic is like saying the movie Barb Wire was artistic because it rips off of Casablanca. By constantly repeating the words "artistic integrity" over and over they do two things:

1. They assume the customer isn't intelligent enough to realize it isn't artistic
2. They cheapen the meaning of the word art to include ripping off of things

Then of course there was the constant references to the 75 perfect scores they got from game critics. However, this was again another indirect insult towards fans. Essentially, what they've said is "you should like this game because game critics gave it a perfect score, ignore your own likes and dislikes and focus entirely on the critics, they know better than you do." Again, this is Bioware talking to the fans like they don't know any better and were incapable of figuring out what they liked, so they turn to the critics as another form of defense assuming that we the customers would be too ignorant to understand our own feelings and impressions of the ending, which only served to highlight the sheer absurdities of game critics as a profession. Why else is there such a massive disparity between the ratings being given on Amazon and Metacritic by average people and professional game critics?

But the final blow for me came with this image:
Image IPB

I can't even begin to express just how disgusted I was when I saw this. Bioware has attempted to turn the entire debacle (which they handled poorly from the word go btw) towards something in their favor with this ad. Once again, they assume that the customer doesn't know any better and by placing that quote from entertainment weekly they are entertaining the notion that any human being with half a brain wouldn't consult the internet to see why the game stirred up such controversy. Not only is the act of this distasteful, it is also a thinly veiled lie to anyone who doesn't know what the controversy is about.

All of this can be coughed up to one major point and that is that Bioware thinks their customers simply aren't intelligent. They've made bad PR move after bad PR move, the only good one they've made is announcing that the EC DLC will be free. And no Bioware shouldn't die because they can't make good games, we the consumers know a good quality game. We see it; Mass Effect 3 had many moments that made it a good experience, but their attitude towards the customer, the people paying them money, is shameful and quite frankly idiotic.

Whether or not Bioware has changed its attitude towards the customer due to its interactions with EA or if its simply showing its true colors now is irrelevant, their view of the people paying them money has led them to this very epoch, where their fate will ultimately be chosen (ironic isn't it, making games of choice and what not) by the fans they think so lowly of.

Well said OP, couldn't agree more, my faith in Bioware is gone

Death to a company is going too far. Yes people are disenchanted with the lies. Yes, a percentage of the people are not tolerant of the PR strategy of "No comment." (No real comment really.) But it's harsh to state that a company needs to become nonfunctional. They just need to be restructured and severe ties with EA, they didn't need them in the first place. The time constraints that EA more than likely placed on them is what really interfered with their 'artistic integrity." I support the outcry, I support an ending that this game truly deserves. But I will not support maniacal ravings that seek to destroy the lives of many employees that had nothing to do with this game. The more logical step is to continue to support the protest, to recede from the company. But statements like these are what those media outlets feed and leech from and they use it to start throwing around the words "whiny" and "entitled", so why give them more fuel?

Be smart about it. A poster started a thread about "artistic integrity." He/she stated that if this was such a huge thing to protect, then why did BW rewrite parts of the Mass Effect Deception due to the outcry of fans? That is being very selective on their part don't you think? I'll look for the thread and link it here.

Have you read the article they quoted this from...okay then..
it is not even taken out of context...the article is not one you would argee with & it is defending the ending...
Also I have worked where I HAD to say misleading things to get people to buy things & it lead to me quiting the company over it...unfortinatly it seems to be the norm these days...

I have an idea...why don't all the people who are threatening to leave...just leave.Or all the people who say "Sue EA, Sue Bioware" just go and do it.Cuz all I read is whaah whaah I'm gonna do this and I'm gonna do that but yet these people do nothing. I mean some did something interesting like raising money but there are a lot of people here who won't put their money where their mouth is.

I am getting really tired of all this negativity and ****ing to the point it makes me wonder how old these people are, because some sound like spoiled little brats who can't understand that life is full of these moments and a video game shouldn't be affecting people's life in this way.If you can't deal with a bad ending or something not coming in the way you expected or were promised...then oh dear you better get ready...
