It's all EA, why else would devs be leaving BioWare? They don't like the direction BW is going. BioWare will die, but it will be the fault of EA. People are getting sick of their practices.

Why wouldn't they use this? If I was a part of business marketing I would, because it's is one of the biggest controversies. People are mad, but there are just as many annoyed with the people who are mad. The misuse of the A, B, C quote is just as popular as the misuse of "entitlement."

It's a controversy and they're capitalizing. It's not deceptive. They don't say "everyone loves this game."

As a Marketing professional, myself (MBA Marketing, 12 years experience, 4 years of it into advertising), I'll have to STRONGLY disagree with that.  There are numerous ways EA/BW could have approached an email ad campaign without coming out with a tagline that risks further alienating a portion of its market. A softer hand was needed here. Hell, the tagline they used basically assumed that the target audience of the said ad is stupid and unable to do their own research.

And I've already stated above: Negative Controversy (like all publicity) is only good when the product/brand itself is relatively unknown and if you have very little to distinguish yourself as a product/brand.  THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO AN ESTABLISHED BRAND LIKE ME/EA/BW, HOWEVER. Bad Publicity for established name brands are BAD.

Also, yes, it's not technically deceptive if you base it on the legal definition of deceptive marketing.  It IS, however, deceptive on the principle itself.

Is this ad for real?  This stinks of an internet hoax to me. I don't think even EA/BW can have this much hubris.

Edit: Pardon my incomplete lines of thought and a few grammatical errors (maybe).  It's 4am where I am and I'm still working on some sales projections (took a break and looked at the forum and saw this...).

This is a video game forum and one of the main purposes of such is to complain about things in games people don't like. Also, you may be okay with bending over every time someone wants you to, but others are not brats or kids for choosing to ask for more than what was given. The "just a video game" excuse is bull considering this is most people's main hobby and way to relieve stress.

I think swearing of BioWare's products and threatening to sue are methods that go too far.

It's funny because they received around 70 reviews, out of which barely more than 10 gave a perfect score... completely forgetting the thousands of bad reviews from real gamers.

BioWare are evolving to the master of trolls with that action.

Have you read the article they quoted this from...okay then..
it is not even taken out of context...the article is not one you would argee with & it is defending the ending...
Also I have worked where I HAD to say misleading things to get people to buy things & it lead to me quiting the company over it...unfortinatly it seems to be the norm these days...

Actually they were defending Bioware's rights , they crapped all over the ending.

They also crapped all over the people complaining about the ending. Last paragraph.

"But accusing BioWare of letting you down — you personally, you the most important person in the universe — is ridiculous. Mass Effect was their story. This is how they chose to end it. Saying that you were let down is justified. Arguing that you deserve more is just entitlement. If you made it to the end of Mass Effect 3, then BioWare supplied you with over a hundred hours of videogame  amusement, and you experienced a franchise which — in small ways and large — pushed the whole notion of videogame storytelling forward. If you feel like all that time spent with the game was wasted because you didn’t like the last few minutes… Well, no offense, but your perspective on art and the human experience kind of stinks."

You do realize what you quoted proves exactly what i stated? Please read my full statement before just me stating they crapped on the ending. Incase you forgot or cant read up "They defended Bioware's rights"

What you have quoted is them defending bioware's rights Bolding random words to try and make it look like they werent crapping on the ending =/ them not crapping on the ending.

I don't want people with a positive mind to leave, I haven't made any empty threats, and I am also optimistic about the EC ending. But you saying a certain type of people should leave the forums is ridiculous and, furthermore, just isn't going to happen. People who swear off BioWare products aren't whining and crying, they are doing what they believe they can to be responsible consumers or make a statement about the path they believe BioWare is taking. There's nothing empty about that.

In short yes, forums were put here to discuss several topics, and like I said one of those is complaining about the game. How people choose to complain about it, short of insults/profanity, is not for any of us to say.

I never understood why being entitled about a specific issue is such a bad thing?

As a human being, I am entitled to be treated equally, that's not bad entitlement?

As a dedicated mass effect fan and self appointed advertising medium for the series, I am entitled to not be embarassed by an ending which causes others to doubt my recommendation, for one.

I am also entitled to a game that lives up to the promises it's designers promised. ABC ending being an example of where those entitlements were not met.

entitled isn't a bad thing. It's simply a thing.

Heh, maybe. Also, I was too abrasive and confrontational in that first post but didn't have any easy way to fix it, so I'll just say I'm sorry about that because I think you and I are more in agreement than disagreement.

Read the article. It's amazing how Bioware was able to come out and spin the word "entitlement" into a negative. I guess it's their not-so-sublte way of calling people whiners without being insulting. However, by definition, the word entitled actually means to have a right or claim to something.

And you know what? If I buy something, I'm ENTITLED to recieve what was promised.
