To put it simply:
Is it possible to "harden" Alistair and -NOT- make him king?

Or does he throw a tantrum and demand to be crowned?

Unfortunately, there are two main quests between my Goldanna-save and the Landsmeet-save, so I can't quickly check it out myself.
In my first playthrough, I went for the nonhuman-pc-happy-end (didn't harden Alistair, supported Anora, had Loghain killed etc.),
and i wondered if that might work with hardened!Alistair too.

I rather like the difference, but my elven healer will probably die from heartbreak if he becomes king anyway and dumps her.  

So, has anyone done that yet? My apologies if it was already mentioned in one of the other "Hardening Alistair"-threads, but I didn`t find anything regarding that particular question.

I'm not sure. Save beforehand, and don't fret if he is made king after all because you can be his mistress if he's been hardened.

Yes, you can harden Alistiar and not make him king.
