honestly OP if you haven't played Fable: The lost Chapters you should, male lead in the first i think though, female possibility in the other 2.

the game has great atmosphere, style story is good and imo it is superior to it's sequels

Ahaha Fable.

Peter Molyneux: "You can make your character anything you want it to be!"

Me: "Anything?"

Peter Molyneux: "Anything."

Me: "Can I make a girl?"

Peter Molyneux: *trollface*

Molyneux overpromises everything, sad to say i think he will kill fable off in the 4th (kinect........) before they get a chance to go back to what made the 1st one great imo.

ignore molyneux's words watch the gameplay listen to the score and hear the story and its a great game, listen to molyneux and only dissapointment will ensue because he can't deliver what he says he will.

 I have recently finished Fable I (having played Fabe2 & 3 before). I do, however, enjoy fighting the bandits in Fabe II, with their funny remarks.

rivqa,
If you find a point-and-click game that you like, can you let me know?
(I can play point-and-click on my Mac - and it doesn't have to be a Mac game) ;-)

If you don't mind old point-and-click games, I'd suggest Broken Sword 1 & 2. George Stobbart is my hero.

Up until they made him all 3D.

www.youtube.com/watch

Just don't play the Director's Cut version of Broken Sword 1. They removed all the death scenes. Pfft.

I'm reinstalling DAO at the moment.

I hate the combat system, so I figure I'm just gonna turn the difficulty down to easy and enjoy myself. Plus I'll get the chance to play through all that DLC I skipped. Might even get Awakening... but we'll see how well DAO goes first.

Check out the Dragon Age Nexus and get some mods. I hated the combat system, but there are some mechanic tweaks in there that make it bearable. There's one that improves party AI (and maxes out tactics slots from the start), another that rebalances the skills (though enemy mages are still way op), and one more that makes the dog a permanent fifth companion.

@OP: I'd suggest Fallout (the old ones), Deus Ex: HR, Skyrim, or waiting a month or so for Diablo 3.

Some non-RPG's might do good as well. Maybe it's best to get away from the whole genre for a little while. Check out Batman Arkham Asylum/City, Saints Row, Bastion, Braid, Journey, Half-Life, or the Metroid Prime series if you have a Wii/Gamecube; they all have pretty good stories/lore/characters. I want to emphasize Bastion and Journey from among that bunch. They're short and indie, but they're among the best games I've played in years.

hmmm op is you have a PS3 Heavenly Sword was an amazing underrated title with 2 female protagonists

God of War style combat but HS had some great elements

heavy light and range attacks could be switched on the fly by holding back triggers i believe and to block specific attacks you need to block in that attack mode range blocks range etc.

voice acting was superb and facial animations as well.

Thank you! No, I do not mind old games at all :)

No, unfortunately not. I bought it through Xbox Live, and it does not seem to be available there. I do enjoy the Fable games (not the citizens of Albion much LOL), and I look forward to a Fable 4 game. I just don't feel so much for the game as I did for ME.
I will not steal this thread more now.   Looking forward to see everyone's suggestions (it's already many - great!). :-)

An RPG with a female protagonist? I'm no expert, but in the strictest technical sense any recent Bethesda game fits that definition, as well as games based on their games (like FO:NV).

Do you like survival horror? Do you like open world games (not sandboxes per se)? If so, and if you are on PC, you may want to look into the STALKER franchise, particularly STALKER: Call of Pripyat. I love that game. If it's possible for a video game to change you, that game did it for me.

The good part is that while your character is a man, that fact is only really relevant in a dozen or so short cutscenes. Otherwise all interaction with other characters is text-based from the first person perspective.

However it's a shooter, I don't really know how you feel about those.

Good luck with finding a new game to play.

People are hating on the combat system of DA:O? It fits the rpg genre. The skyrim combat system is something I hate =]. What is this? 1 Spell, 3 moves with the sword, easy mode?

I kind of realized most of the rpgs I like are biowares. The others are good like skyrim and Deus Ex but just can not compare. But another of one of my favorites. Suikoden on the PS. Just use emulator. Even though it is old it is still damn good.

I don't have a TV, so no consoles here. Pity, because Journey looks gorgeous and Heavenly Sword looks fun.

Ooh emulators... I didn't even know they existed. I'll look into it and keep pretending not to be a noob.

Fallout New Vegas is a really great game. Or if you're not necessarily looking for a new game, I strongly recommend the first two Fallout games. Character can be female, great story, great characters, etc. and the gameplay is actually quite decent. I found the first one a bit boring, there isn't really that much to do in the game, but the second one is definitely worth a try. And in good old rpg fashion, character attributes actually matter in the game (try making a character with an Intelligence Score of 3 or less, you will have a hard time communicating with others through grunts).

skyrim, skyrim, and maybe fallout.

Outside of this and bioware games, you are royally screwed.

I want to play Journey too, but I don't have a PS3. Probably over the summer when I steal my sister's friend's PS3 and play Uncharted 2 and the Last of Us I'll get it.

Ha, that sounds cool. I'm happy to play old games if they're good. Is it worth starting with an earlier one for story purposes?

Well, there's still Deus Ex Human Revolution. Only problem is that the main character is male. The dialogues in that game are superb though, I've never seen something similar to the dialogue system in that game in any other game. Makes you wish there were more of those inside the game. Also, augmentations are fun.

Yeah, I'd start with the first Fallout. There should be a 'Fallout Collection' pack that includes both the first two Fallouts (+ Fallout Tactics, but that game is horrible).
Edit: Actually called 'Fallout Collection'

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, still the best RPG I've played. Expect the graphics and gameplay to reflect its age though.

None of the Fallout games need the earlier games as they're fairly standalone stories, but they are ALL great games you should try. Though Fallout 3 and New Vegas for PC fall under the Elder Scrolls modding trap, you may spend more time searching for mods, installing them and making them work than playing the game.

If you're looking for older games, try Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines or Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura.

It is balanced so that if you just let things play out in realtime, your entire party gets ganked right away. Therefore you need to pause every 2 seconds to babysit your entire party... making it a weird mishmash of realtime and turn-based combat.

Plus, I'm playing as the Warden. I want to focus on the Warden... kinda like Mass Effect. I'm Shepard, I don't want to have to babysit Garrus and Ashley at the same time.

Have you tried 'Dear Ester' or Amnesia? I am also getting into old games like The 7th Gust and Theme Hospital. Telltale looks set to release The Walking Dead later this month. I already have it pre-ordered. They talk about how your choices matter and characters will remember certain conversations. We shall say.

Choices are not that hard to implement in a five episode pre-planned arc though, and you get about 2 hours of gameplay every month instead of a whole game. Five episodes for $25 is not bad.
