Guild Wars 2 comes out soon-ish. (They haven't given a date, but I'm guessing this summer.) If you pre-purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition or the Collector's Edition you can participate in all of the beta testing, which starts at the end of this month.  :wizard:

This looks awesome^

Sorry, I had this same question a while back OP, I took it to the indoctrination thread rather than making my own lol.

Good responses though, also might check that syberia game you were talking about...

OP< I'm with you there - I almost have to have a female main character, especially in an RPG, to really enjoy a game. It makes it tough...

I've heard good things about Divinity 2: Ego Draconis/Dragon Knight Saga (they changed the name for the release including the expansion pack, Flames of Vengeance), so I'll be starting that one once I get out of this rut the ending caused...

The Fallout series is good, and lets you do that. Elder Scrolls series, if you like the sandboxy (I'm not hugely fond of sandbox, but I've heard conflicting stories about Skyrim's storyline if you just follow the quests).

Other than those...I'm really not sure. Sorry...if you find any though, let me know!

Come oooooooon, just play Witcher already.  Do it.

I dunno, I just can't suspend disbelief that much. I like my immersion.

Not in anyway Mass Effect related, why is this not locked or in off-topic?

I started playing FF7 again the other day - it's still awesome. *sigh*

This thread is great though, I was wondering the same thing tbh. Although I don't *mind* playing a male protagonist (I'll happily play the Witcher series) there seems to be a lack of RPGs with a female lead which also have decent stories. Which aren't made by Bioware. Will check out some of the suggestions in here, thanks for this!

If you want a good RPG, I suggest Chrono Trigger. It's available on all sorts of systems, and it's about this redhead who builds a team of close friends and travels through a sci-fi universe where actions have consequences.

There are a diverse set of endings, many of which can only be achieved through multiple playthroughs.

I... wonder why I liked that game so much?

The main protagonist isn't female, but it has three of my favorite female RPG characters of all time.

People always go on about the Witcher.
Personally I'll never play the Witcher due to not being able to be a female protagonist, the set protagonist being someone I can't stand at all and it's general attitude towards women.

Yes yes I'm sure it's the best 2 games evar but meh. AlsoSapkowskiisahack. *exit stage left*

Divinity 2 looks pretty good. I'm also not a huge fan of sandbox but I might dip my toe in by playing an earlier Elder Scrolls game (less money wasted if I don't like it). I really like my story!

Relatedly: are all video game trailers a bit crap?

Divinity 2 is good, though if you get annoyed at your gender being ignored then you should know this happens now and then. It gets better in the expansion though.

The Longest Journey. Not RPG though, adventure game.

Great, great, GREAT GAME! And ancient now, so it's dirt cheap and anybody's pc should be able to run it.

If you're interested in gaming with a good story -- which I assume most ME players are -- do yourself a favor and get this one.

We need more women in game development. Women have great ideas, we should listen to them...

Besides, there simply aren't enough titles out there with female protagonists. One reason I'm looking forward to the new Tomb Raider.

It's ME-related because if the endings hadn't stabbed me in the heart, I'd be replaying it right now instead of posting here.  :P

I've never been interested in Tomb Raider, partly because I'm crap at those sort of games and partly because Lara was so obviously designed to appeal to men.
That any different nowadays?

Oh, and Mirror's Edge.

It has a few issues and it's not and RPG, but it's great.

One of my favorite female protagonists, an awesome world, and it's one of the most beautiful big-ticket games in recent memory.

Skyrim has been rather pleasant for me so far. It's definitely worth a try at the very least.

Oh look, 2 trolls rolled in... *sighs*
*Gets an idea for a game named Trollball: custom character, which needs to weed out trolls on forums and check for multi-accounting. The more trolls, insults and spam you can remove/ban, the higher the score. High enough score (not possible without MP): you just need to keep going forever. Bad ending: you get that tired that you need to keep on going forever but miss more and more due to exhaustion*

Sounds fair, it takes a group effort to get rid of trolls.
