www.gamersgate.com/DDB-1CBIGPACK/1c-complete-pack-bundle
Several RPGs in there I saw; Konung, Star Wolves. King's Bounty, Farewell to Dragons. These aren't quite as deep as Bioware's, alas, but with 87 games in one pack (which now has a -70% discount!) it does feel like it gives you bang for your buck.

The Longest Journey. Not RPG though, adventure game.
Yeah that one is great, or Dreamfall The longest Journey great adventure games
The controls get in the way for me on the sequel -- Dreamfall. But I'm on PC. I hear that is you play it on console, they're much better.

I am playing Kingdoms of Amaleur now, and I am loving it. It is sort of a cross between Skyrim with the bright cheerful environments of Fable.
I loved Skyrim, so I recommend that one as well, I beat it before playing ME3.

OK, so I still can't bear to play ME at all. (See, I'm on topic!)
I've been playing Portal a bit but I really miss my RPGs. Anyone have any suggestions for non-Bioware RPGs for PC (or Mac)? My only requirements are: a female protagonist (no Witcher for me, I'll play it modded if I get desperate), decent story and decent characters.
Anyone? I've only recently got back into gaming after a very long hiatus, so chances are I won't have played anything you can think of.
I feel your pain. I really do. If you like Fantasy, Dragon Age: Origins is pretty decent. I preferred Dragon Age II myself, but a lot of people hate it. Baulder's Gate and Baulder's Gate II are supposed to be rereleased this summer with graphical improvements and additional story elements, so they'll be worth a go. The new Tomb Raider isn't an RPG, but it looks *really* good, and for the first time, Lara Croft isn't sporting a DD chest and a stripperific outfit. Kindgoms of Amalur: Reckoning is getting a lot of praise (I didn't like the demo at all, but I don't care for Fantasy much) and of course, Skyrim is the 800 Pound Gorilla of RPG's right now (haven't played it. Again, not much of a fantasy guy). Knights of the Old Republic and Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords are always good fall backs.
Beyond that, I don't know.

For that, I'd recommend Batman: Arkham City, simply because it lets you do so much. Replay value is huge, and like ME2, you can revisit the game post-endgame, and go exploring (as well as kicking the pants out of random goons). And you look so gosh-darn stylish in doing so, with all the stealth take-downs, gadgets, martial arts moves, etc. ...

Cooking like you live in Skyrim!
You, too, will learn the glory of grilled leeks and tomato stew with this completely unintentional diet plan from Bethesda Studios! Enjoy salted venison chops, salted salmon steaks, salted rabbit, and specially salted chicken breasts before moving on to more advanced fair such as skooma marinated chuck roasts guaranteed to put the bloodiest beef of the Reach on your table!
Disclaimer: clams and small fish must be consumed raw. Our recipes are not meant to be cooked at an alchemy table, as this can lead to dangerous results. Consult your doctor if you begin to show signs of bone break fever, the rattles, lycanthropy, or vampirism.

You're out of luck lol
I've never came across a non-bioware game that gave me such connection to the character.
Bethesda is great about massive world to play with, the Elder Scrolls Series is awesome, but never goes too much in depth. Those games require a lot of role play on your part . . .

Witcher 2 ( no you dont need to play 1) is the closest thing to a bioware product out there. Its also able to break the rules because its not owned by ea. You get lots of free content that you would normally have to buy the collectors editions for. You are free of moral guardian censorship and free dlc. Go play that
Skyrim doesnt have nearly the quality voice acting that witcher 2 and mass effect share. Skyrim is driven by exploration. They toss you outside and say go find stuff to do the world is yours. There is little character interaction, there is no overarching goal. You can beat skyrim's main quest and still have 70 percent of the game untouched. Its litterally a giant world map with crap happening go and discover.
Two different types of rpg.

Witcher 2 feels very much like a bioware game especially if you play a straight male protagonist in your main file.
Elder scrolls is NOT like a bioware game at all.

You could try Venetica, it is an innovative story driven RPG. It has (or had, maybe it was patched) some technical flaws though.rivqa wrote...

Yes Beyond good and evil is a classic, great game.Didn’t read through the whole thread but has anyone mentioned Beyond Good & Evil.

Why does the protagonist have to be female? I play a good game regardless of the main characters race, gender or sexual preference.
