What's so stupid is A LOT of people totally dig Miranda. I mean, for them to COMPLETELY shaft that romance is just...wow. What a bunch of idiots.

I guess Bioware got tired of being accused of making nothing but "dating simulators." Unfortunately, they shortchanged their fans who actually LOVE that aspect of their games...

Of all the non-squadmates in ME3 she got of easy. You have 3 talks on the Citadel including a sort-of romance scene and Horizon has her as a major character. Unlike, for example, Jack. Or Jacob. Or Thane. Or Kelly.

Which would be all of them.

Considering my Male Sheps romanced Jack and Miranda, I would say the romances took about 16 steps back.

They're not fulfilling AT ALL.

Granted, I haven't seen Miri's romance yet, but I have to assume it's every bit as rushed as Jack's.

Did they allocate resources based on fanbase size though? Seems more like they just made a conscious decision to prioritize the ME1 characters.

I thought the romances were more downplayed myself.

A most welcome change.

did anyone else snicker just a bit when they realized bioware had made the one black squadmate the no good cheater who went and knocked up another woman?

oh bioware... lol

I dont know if snicker is the right word. More like shameful shaking of my head. I guess my Shepard is the only faithful black guy in the Mass Effect universe. Thanks Bioware

all the character stories took a step back IMO. Except maybe Garrus, Thane and Mordin.

I have yet to forgive them for having him volunteer for the vents (which would have made him the first to day).

le sigh.

Super serious.

I'm thinking they had a finite amount of resources, ran out of time, and prioritized giving squaddies content over non-squaddies. Which seems like it would be the standard procedure.

I agree with you OP.

Imo Bioware seriously underestimated just how important the romances(not just the scenes) are to people. I found it odd that in a game with as much going on in it as ME3 I was really excited just to see my relationship develope with Miranda.

And while the romance scenes are a great part of the game thats not why the romances are so great. Its the dialogue, and emotions, said and felt before and after the scene. It gives Shepard such a human quality about himself or herself that allows the player to really invest themselves in the game.

So yes, Bioware dropped the ball with all relationships. Including Liara's.

As a Mirimancer I really liked the content we got. Miranda got the best deal compared to the other ME2 LI (besides Garrus/Tali). But that's not really saying much.

I feel that they basically did what Shepard's choices were in ME2 --- by putting the ME1 Li's on standby and pretty much re-writing the story so to speak. The part where Liara doesn't either reciprocate Shepard's or react the right way..although they say its a bug, I say its one of those auto-mechanics built into the game for new players that didn't play any of the other ME games.

If you pay attention, ME2 and ME3 in many ways have " write-as-you-go" features to them in order to provide newbies clarity.

This is one of ME3's biggest let downs of course, the back-staging of Li's into NPC's or video feeds.

In my opinion, the 2 cannon Li's that the writing teams really pushed hard was Liara and Ashley Williams. Heck, Liara is even written in the lore fighting for your freaken body and risking her blue tail in hopes of having you survive. Now we see in ME3, Ashley almost acts as the 3rd Wheel in certain places. The rest of the Li's from ME2 were merely window dressing for ME2 and ME2 only.

I knew there was probably going to be serious problems concerning this, I just didn't think it was a meaningful nor a good idea for your Shepard to suddenly start over so to speak --- because there were too many parallels that they would have to work within the 3rd game.

Really it is my belief when I look at it, Mass Effect should be a 4 game series instead of a 3 game series. There was simply way too much to accomplish with too many sub-plots and combinations based upon what they started in ME1-ME2. I think they should have made ME3 focus on the Cerberus/Reaper connections with the ending being some big cliff hanger of the Batarain Empire being wiped out by the Reapers. ---- and thus comes ME4 where all this business with " Take Earth Back!" could then be worked on.

Totally possible.

But come on. They ran out of time and resources for the romances, to give us a proper ending, to give us closure, to show us our war assests in the final fight, to not make every mission a "fetch quest"...I mean it's possible. But damn they had enough time to NOT **** this stuff up.

If you romanced him, Thane's character story did not take a step back. It strapped on a jetpack and launched itself through successive mass relays. Backwards.

Sorry, Thane was practically ignored and was literally forgotten about, so I don't understand how he would be an exception to this....

I enjoyed Kaidan and Liaras romance in ME3 alot, more then in ME and more then any of the ME2 romances. So nope, didn't feel like a step back for me. Plus Liara's romance scene? <3
