Did the romances clearly take a step back?

Have to say that I agree with the OP. I remember repeatedly thinking that I must have said or done something wrong with Liara during my first playthrough because she kept referring to Shepard as "friend." Previous experience had taught me that "friend" is code for "not romance" so it set off alarm bells that kept me from just appreciating the content for what is was, particularly the (otherwise brilliant) time capsule scene.

So, yeah, I was confused as to where the relationship stood for a big chunk of the game, which really shouldn't have been an issue for a loyal Shepard. The payoff at the end more than makes up for it, but...I can't imagine confusion is what the writers were going for.

I think it has been mentioned before, there is an import bug that can be fixed with the save game editor, so Liara will remember the romance in LotSB.

Yeah, really.

What.

I didn't even romance her and it still felt I was in a relationship with her.

I'm not a fan of Liara, in ME1 I chose Ashley first, in ME2 Tali and Miranda. But while maybe there was too much emphasis on Liara during a game, romance in ME3 wasn't satisfactory, except last scene. Too cold, lack of emotion and romantic interaction. I fear to check what's happened with my favourites Tali and Miranda.

For me the Garrus romance was done perfectly - even outside of the main romance scenes, your relationship was referred to. He comforts you when you are feeling down, makes sure you are getting sleep, hell, you even get a special hand squeeze when you first meet on Menae. Even on the Citadel he when you are talking about the Turian refugees with him, he says "because I need you."

I think it connects all the main romance scenes very well, so they don't seem random and out of place. The writers did an excellent job with him.

I agree. I have many problems with the game but my romance with Garrus wasn't one of them.
I know some people complain about the sex scene but I thought it was more than enough. I don't want to see them awkwardly rolling around in their underwear. Especially when it's Garrus. Besides, the fact that he was doing some of her work on her datapad andthat he immediately went to sit next to her when she woke up, in addition to giving her that adoring look and saying "what's bothering you?" two seconds later, made it a flawless scene IMO.

Definitely, in fact, that there wasn't a full on scene cemented the romance even better, especially when they talk afterwards, and how comfortable he is at working on her datapads.

That "What's bothering you?" is just perfect.

You have sex in a dirty, abandoned Citadel apartment.

Still better than what people who romanced Jacob and Thane got.

Complain all you like, my shepard got hologram that almost break their relationship at the end.
well, at least if I choose red ending, it not hard for him to keep his promise...

although, my case is better than Thane, Jack and Jacob romance.

Man, almost everything took a step back. Dialogue(and indirectly romances), exploration, freedom/non-linearity, character writing/motivations, theme(largely in the ending, but elsewhere as well), etc, etc, etc.

Only thing that seemed to take a step forward was gameplay, and only in certain ways(no more vehicle combat or mini-games, the shooting/cover aspects were pretty much perfected but they seem to have jsut given up on the rest).

Yep, almost like they knew this part of the game play was going to be a big part of future DLC....

You got dialogue after every mission, real conversations, a real romance-scene, a goodbye-kiss, a flashback... What would you want more? Other romances were happy that they had their 10 minutes of fame.

It's really not fair to ask for more Liara at this point

Wow. It's so long. And fulfilling. Look at all the time they lavished on it.

And the four line build-up to it -- so rewarding. What more could I ask?

Quality over quantity. And most of that is there regardless. Look, pretty much everyone got screwed in this game, espcially Harbinger.

I forced to see flashback of liara at the end, is it so hard to do some flashback of other?

it's only a few damm second, at least in the end, can they just stop forced liara to player who not
romance her?

Yes. I clearly deserve to get lackluster content because I romanced the wrong character.

No. **** that logic.

I didn't know there were that many flaws in the Liaramance. However, you have to admit that using the "just friends" line is a minor flaw, but it's nothing compared to what happened with most of the ME2 romances.

I guess I'm kind of spoiled in this aspect because Ashley is my favorite romance and the VS has one of the better romances in the game. From the subtle nods in the Earth/Mars missions and the hospital, to the emotional romance scene and dialogue before the Citadel beam, the romance was just very well done. My only problem with it is the lack of in-depth dialogue between when the VS returns to the Normandy and before Cronos Station. When I finally got Ashley back, I was like "All right! Now I can woo her all over again and enjoy close, personal dialogue once more!" and all I got was ambient dialogue such as "Good to see you!"

:o ...

Right, because the conversation on Cronos station doesn't exist. :pinched:

The Kaidan-romance was just wonderful, it was perfect. For me it was 10/10! So much love for it! And have heard nothing but praise from my Garrus-mancer-friend.

But as a Jacob-mancer I am less than pleased.
