I don't need to talk to excel at the game. I shouldn't have to rely on my teammates to be my situational awareness. If you can't play without leaning on your teammates for info on every enemy on the map then you've got a serious problem.

Besides, talking usually means I run into people who are:

A) Annoying
B) Egotistical
C) Drop the f-bomb every other word
D) All of the above!

I much prefer my friends in party chat. More entertaining, more awesome banter, better strategizing, less idiocy.

 1.) Not everyone has mics
2.) Needed in silver? Hahahahahaha. No. Even gold is doable if people know what they're doing.

Silver is easy without communication. Gold is easy too depending on the map/enemy.

I am sick of starting SIlver/Gold games and people with their mic's turned off join them. No way are we ever going to complete a gold/silver game without communication, turn it on, there is no excuse.

I have taken to going back to lobby if a player tries to join with no mic or a level -10 level player on silver/gold.

Am I right?

Ok, to all you douches who keep saying you dont need it... I know it might not be nessasary but it would sure as hell make the game better,

It's a team game afterall, now stop trolling my post.

So... i'm completely and utterly wrong?

So you don't wish your team would tell you that a cloaked hunter or Phantom is lurking round a corner when you go to revive them? rather then you die too? You'd rather waste your rocket ammo because someone else fires a rocket at the same time, wasting it... Sorry but playing a team game WITHOUT a mic is stupid, pointless and annoying for everyone else. I rest my case.

Call me an idiot, a douche bag or an angry person if you like, but you can't justify it. An xbox headset cost like £5.

no
I bet $10 I have more toys and a higher a N7 then you and I still dont need to hear you whine, the game tells me when you die, and I come help
the game shows me where you are and I come help
I'm sick of you chatty children in game who have no clue how to be independant (and quiet)
go watch Red October the Movie and CLUE THE FK IN!

it takes only a few minutes to see how your teamates play and during that time you can adjust (and also know if you'll need more rockets and medgel)

I really dont want to listen to you chit chatting, eating, or say anything that's not "watch out behind you". Most people like to talk while playing, I'm sorry I'm not one of those people who want to talk or listen what is your favorite class or why, or discuss your strategies and load outs.

OP, what about hearing impaired people? And people from other countries that don't have practice speaking and listening to english folks? Should they not play even on silver where voice chat is not needed at all even with random players (as long as they have a clue about what they're doing)?

Don't tell me now that they should just play with their friends, as some people's friends are not really into Mass Effect, shooters, or gaming in general. And, as you don't know each person's situation, you shouldn't generalize in your posts.

You also shouldn't bring up stuff that happens less than 1% of the time as if everyone should be on the look out for it constantly. It's just as annoying as the "what about the children" crowd.

I'd rather play on a team of players with no mic who are good, rather than play with people who have mics and not know how to play the game. I've played with more people with mics who suck, more than people without mics, who are good.

With random players, I've maybe played 2 or 3 games ever that actually benefitted from having voice communication – excellent games in which we warned each other, agreed upon roles, and congratulated one another when things went well. I've played easily 20 games with teenage boys who spend the match hurling profanities, talking about the girls they want to have sex with and the drugs they're doing, or simply breathing unusually loudly into the mic. Twice now I've been invited to party chat just to be greeted with this. And you ask why I don't plug my mic in?

Nowadays, I routinely finish Gold without a headset. I agree that it's nice to have for less experienced teams that have a hard time settling on complementary roles, but I don't find skilled groups really suffer from silence.

I have a mic but most people dont use it and you can do silver and gold runs without one...basically you just need a sensible team.

I usually don't reply to people asking if everyone has mics because:

A) the guy sounds annoying as hell
B) I really don't want to hear the poor fellow whine and complain
C) chances are, he is just going to scream out the obvious
D) there are little to no need for cooperation 3/4 of the time... sadly.

My point is that, as he doesn't know why people don't use their mics, he shouldn't be that rude. I just mentioned some examples, other posters have said many others. And, for all I care, "I don't want to hear you" is reason enough, and no one should be calling names anyone else because of a trivial thing like a mic (that it's not needed at all). If someone doesn't like it, leave the group, play with your friends, or, I don't know, give an opportunity to "no mic" players, but stop making threads like this one that bring nothing positive.

I agree OP. Communication makes EVERYONE's lives easier, no matter the level. I have a mic, but I don't use it much anymore cause I typically only play bronze. Why? Cause most people don't talk anyway, so why bother? It drains my batteries something fierce.

You already know the AI behavior, it doesn't change, so a mic isn't really needed. It CAN help but it's not a requirement to win, a lot of people do fine without one.

90% of the people with mics don't even talk about the match, they're talking about something else.
This one time a loser was doing commentary when I was the last one left. I had to remind him he was dead and I was finishing the wave solo.
